Aveda - Strengthening Overnight Serum - 30

I recently received this at BH's in-house Natural Beauty Event & I will admit I was a tad skeptical as to whether it would work for me (for reasons I'll mention below), but to my surprise this stuff actually works!For context, I have fine-but-lots-of-it coloured hair that is of low porosity, meaning that hair products have a tendency to sit on the surface without actually penetrating deep into the hair shaft. I have also undergone bleaching a few times in the past, which we all know does real damage to one's hair. I'm not entirely sure what kind of magic is in this, but having used this almost every night for the past week & a half (the bottle states that this should be used at night only & "as often as desired"), I can tell you that the lengths & ends of my hair already feel smoother & softer thanks to this miracle worker (although the jury is still out re: whether it will help on the split ends front). I even felt the difference in my hair the 1 night I chose not to use it - woke up with ends that felt about as dry as they had prior to using this.Another thing I like about this product is that it is a serum & not a heavy one at that, despite containing several oils (including avocado oil) as top ingredients. I find that although it makes my hair look a wee bit stringy when I first apply it (common problem I have with oilier products), once I wake up the next morning that stringy look has disappeared. It's also easy to pump out of the bottle as well. You don't need too much either, although you will need to experiment to see just how much you need for your own hair (3 pumps is enough for me).I'm pretty fussy when it comes to beauty products in general & it can take a bit to wow me, so the fact that this hair serum has done that & is something I would consider buying with my own money once I've finished is a marvel, so thank you not only to Beautyheaven for giving me the opportunity to try this but also to Aveda for creating a great product! (Although I hope I don't go through this TOO quickly!)

Received the sample very quickly. Inside was a very tiny tube of product, enough for maybe someone with chin length hair at most. Being that my hair is waist length I knew there wasn’t going to be enough to trial the product effectively. I applied it to my washed hair right before bed. I started at the ends & worked my up as much as the amount of product would allow. I used the last drop to smooth over the top/outer layer of my hair. I combed my hair with a wide comb, put it in a loose plait & went to bed. I woke up the next morning & my hair looked & felt greasy & lank. It didn’t feel soft, it wasn’t crunchy, just greasy & lank like it hadn’t been washed for a week. I brushed it but it remained the same. I had to shower & re-wash, dry & style my hair. The range is designed to work on all 3 layers of hair (cortex, cuticle and F-layer - I didn't even know my hair had this!) repairing, preventing breakage and protecting.I've only been using the serum in the range as I usually find Aveda a bit expensive to buy for myself. So I was very happy to get the chance to try this. As directed I've been using this on my ends overnight for 'intensive overnight repair and split end reduction'. The serum is a light white lotion with a fairly pleasant smell (it contains fragrance) and after applying it my hair doesn't feel greasy or stiff, so no dirty pillowcases or need to rinse out in the morning.In the morning my hair has felt nice and soft on the ends, I thought it might be repairing any damage but I had my hair cut today and the hairdresser said I needed a fair bit off to get rid of the damaged part. Maybe I haven't been using it long enough, I certainly haven't used it everyday, the directions are to use it as often as required. I also should maybe try using a bigger amount.I will keep using this and hope it will keep the ends in good condition preventing any split ends getting worse. I would need to see some definite effect to spend so much on a hair product
