I absolutely love Aveda's Thickening Tonic! As someone with fine hair that often falls flat, I've tried a lot of volumizing products over the years, but this is one of the best I've ever used. The spray bottle makes it easy to apply, and I love that it's made with natural, cruelty free ingredients. But most importantly, it really works! After using it, my hair looks and feels thicker and fuller, with improved texture and body. I also appreciate that it doesn't leave any sticky or greasy residue, even when I use it in conjunction with other styling products. While it is a bit on the pricey side, I feel that it's worth the investment for the results it delivers. Essential item for my peri-menopausal thinning hair. There's a knack to getting the best out of this product but I'd highly recommend persevering with it if, like me you've gone thinner on top. About my hair: I've always had thin, lank hair but following illness almost 10 years ago I suffered hair thinning that has not grown back, it destroyed my confidence to the point of losing my job and my barely leaving the house. Now I'm peri-menopausal so the general thickness of my hair has changed too. I do not recommend hair products without thoroughly believing in their efficacy.

Bought this after reading so many positive reviews. I'm approaching my mid 60s and my hair has become so much thinner in the past 18 months. It was always fine but I had plenty of it. I've no issues after blood test so I can only assume it's my age. I have found that this product does make a difference. After washing, I spray lightly onto damp hair, comb through and blow dry. My hair looks noticeably better. Took it to my hairdressers to use on me before styling and she was impressed. I will definitely continue to use this. Expensive but worth it.

Pros and cons to this product.I have naturally fine, curly, shoulder length hair but lots of it. I like to straighten my hair and due to medication and age I thought I would give this a go as one can never have thick enough hair!Pros …… it works, I pulled all my hair back into a pony tail and it definitely felt thicker when I was holding all my hair in one hand. It had the same thickening effects as when using a dry shampoo.Cons …… It does dry your hair out. Due to curls I get a lot of tangles so I use hair masks instead of conditioners which leaves my hair really soft, using this actually has a drying effect and my hair didn’t feel soft and silky, it felt as though I had a dry shampoo in after washing. Also, 100ml is a small bottle so if you have long hair ... MorePros and cons to this product.I have naturally fine, curly, shoulder length hair but lots of it. This is a great product! My long fine hair becomes thicker feeling. I notice it when I put it in a ponytail, it feels so full and plush, as opposed to when I don't use it and ponytail it. The only problem is that Aveda has the worst sprayers. They clog and jam, I end up just pouring it into my hand and running it through my hair. I try running them in hot water to melt the clog but it never works. But I'm wondering if maybe using it that way, instead of spraying it, is what gives that plumped texture.
In 2014 I was really ill and my hair started thinning at an alarming rate, it destroyed me emotionally and mentally to the point I couldn't leave the house. I've spent the last 9 years trying to find products that help me feel more confident about my hair loss so I can live again - this is one of those. It took a good few attempts to work out how much to use before my hair feels clogged up (a surprising amount to be honest) and I use it on the roots, then massaged it in. I also now use the Aveda Volumising spray and hairsprays too. I use a different brand of shampoo (I do use Aveda conditioner) but I now go to an Aveda hairdresser who use all the products (including shampoos obviously) and my hair always feels amazing, my not using the shampoois just more out of the ... MoreIn 2014 I was really ill and my hair started thinning at an alarming rate, it destroyed me emotionally and mentally to the point I couldn't leave the house. Overall I highly recommend this and Aveda products in general.
My hair has become both thinner and finer as I've got older which has really upset me, as family used to say it was my "crowning glory". Having used other Aveda hair products, I have always been impressed with their quality and effectiveness - and also their good value as a little goes a long way. I'd overlooked that point when I first applied it as I was so anxious to find a remedy to my hair problem, that I used far too much and it ended up rather weighed down. But remembering that a small amount goes a long way with the other Aveda range, the second time I used far less and it was really effective. I'm not sure how it works, but it certainly gave my hair body and it appeared much thicker than usual. I am pleased to have discovered it and would certainly recommend it.
First off: the ingredient list is different between safari mobile browser and firefox web browser. I bought from my phone, and wish I had looked on my laptop, too. Safari indicates this product has NO silicones. I does. Dimethicone and Dimethiconol, both of which are water-insoluble. There was an ask/answer on safari in which someone specifically asked about silicones and an Aveda rep said there were NO silicones in the product, so I bought it. I am water-wash only and this product is useless to me. I didn't notice until 3 months after I bought THREE bottles so I am past the return window. They are going in the trash and Aveda lost a customer in me.
The one I got was .34 fl oz so it was pretty small. I just wanted to try it. I thought it was mainly for volume but it is for texture. I need to google and figure out the best way to use it. I like the other volumizer that Aveda makes better - I thought this was an updated version but it isn't. It all depends on what kind of hair you have. Mine is thin so I have not yet found the perfect product. I do need to add that this does help but you need to use it sparingly.
I bought this for someone else who didn't want it, so I decided to try it on my curls. The smell was great, so I went for it and sprayed it in my wet hair and did the whole scrunch curl technique with tee shirt fabric. My curls are divine now! They are defined and shiny and smell great. I've tried tons products for my curls, and the only other ones that work this well take hours to dry. This does not add extra any time to drying, which is such a bonus. Spray on wet hair, style curls and go look great! Love, love love this product!
