My son prefers a flatter nipple in general, but this nipple was particularly difficult to get the last few mls of milk from. I had to take the lit off and shake it into the tip of the nipple and hold it for him.All in all this is my favorite manual pump of the three I’ve tried of this type.Thank you to the stellar parent panel for the opportunity to try this product.

I just wish I had had it with my two older children when they were babies! Thanks to the Stellar Product Testing Panel for providing me with this great pump.

I primarily breastfeed my daughter but will pump on occasion so that my husband is able to give her a bottle. We are afraid she will eventually reject a bottle completely if I do not give her expressed breastmilk every so often. This is the second manual breast pump I have tried in the 3 years I have spent nursing my children. For both children, I have had hospital-grade electric breast pumps and manual pumps. My old manual pump needed new parts, but the cost of the parts is as much as a new pump, so I was excited when I was given the opportunity to try this manual breast pump as a part of the Stellar Product Testing Panel. I find myself gravitating toward a manual pump more often than I do the electric, even with all the bells and whistles that the electric pumps have. This pump would be very easy to travel with. It is lightweight, compact, and has very few parts to clean! The best part of this pump in comparison to my old manual pump is the feature that allows you to not have to have different size flanges. Normally I ideally use two different flange sizes, but the silicone around the flange on this pump accommodates for different sizes, and as a bonus is very comfortable! Some of the things I did not particularly appreciate would be that this pump is slightly noisy when used. I could not be discrete about using it like I could with my old manual pump. Another issue I found was that I needed a slightly greater range of motion with the handle to create a deeper suction with the handle is fully compressed. The final drawback I discovered thanks to my toddler, was that I found that when leaned on its side, it will leak milk out of the threading portion where it connects to the bottle. All in all, I can definitely see myself bringing this pump on a short overnight trip because it is so compact. For casual occasional pumping this manual breast pump will do the job. It is easy to put into a wetbag and toss into my diaper bag. I was able to pump a good amount of milk, probably comparable to what I would with my electric pump, but is smaller, fewer parts, and easy to clean!

I received this pump for free to give my honest feedback through the Stellar Product Testing Panel and I'm so happy I did!The Philips Avent Manual Breast Pump, SCF430/30, is the fourth pump in my chestfeeding arsenal. I have one other manual pump and a couple of silicone contraptions that capture milk during my letdown that I used with my first kiddo. I also have two electric pumps. All this to say, I have spent a lot of time pumping, storing, and cleaning pump parts. The Avnet pump is very efficient at emptying both breasts quickly and comfortably. Why is that important? When I'm pumping in the dark and trying to do it quietly, half asleep, or pumping in the parking lot of a grocery store, I want it to be fast, discreet, and mess free. This accomplishes that extremely well. The compactness of the pump, it's shirt neck, and how close it fits to your breast is fantastic. The pumping action isn't difficult and the way my hand and arm is positioned isn't awkward. However, I dinged a star because I found this pump a little more challenging to clean and take a part and put together quickly in the above situations. There aren't more parts than my other pump but these parts fit snugly together and it just takes more dexterity to put together.Because the pump is so comfortable and efficient, I usually put the pump together after it's all clean and dry and put it in a reusable wet bag with a few empty milk bags. When I'm finished using it I place it back in the bag assembled and either put it in the refrigerator to use a second time or put it in the sink for cleaning.
First, I should mention that I received this pump for product review through Stellar Reviews. My baby is nearly 6 months old, is our second child, and I work part-time away from him. Needless to say, I am an experienced breastfeeder and pumper! Before trialing the Philips Avent Manual Breast Pump, I had only used an electric pump. My first adventure out with this pump, I took it on a day date with my husband. (I also took my electric pump in event of catastrophic failure!) I will note that I was able to achieve greater milk collection in a shorter period of time with the hand pump, but I wasn't able to completely empty- I required the electric pump to draw out the final ounce or so of milk.Separate from milk collection, I found this pump to be comfortable. For reference, I typically use a 24mm flange. I was surprised to find out that, completely broken down, this pump has 8 parts- a bit disappointing when it comes time to wash. It does only take me ~1 minute to assemble. I also wish it came with a larger collection bottle (an 8 ounce collection bottle would be more reasonable, though not as compact). It's nice that I don't have to pack a whole separate bag in order to carry this pump around town. In fact, I could carry it in my purse discretely if needed.Overall, I don't know that I'll reach for the manual pump over my electric pump except in cases where electricity or luggage size matters.
This is such a lovely hand pump, it’s clear what parts you need to boil before using and it’s not too many pieces to use or take with you on the go. I really loved this style of pump because the flange is so comfortable! After boiling the parts for the time suggested I let everything dry in a bottle dyer and put the pieces together with ease. It was super easy to use and I was able to start pumping immediately. I like that it works with Phillips advent bottles and comes with everything you need for one 4oz full bottle and a sealing disk if you just want to use the bottle to store your milk. They really did a good job with the comfort for this hand pump, there’s no letdown position that you have to use first like other brands. This one is just straight to the pumping ... They really did a good job with the comfort for this hand pump, there’s no letdown position that you have to use first like other brands. This one is just straight to the pumping but the way the pump functions it extracts the milk gently and quickly similar to the feeling of a baby actually latching on.I was able to get a letdown within seconds just by the way the pump functions like the real deal. All the pieces were easy to clean after use as well. I will say that there are more pieces to this hand pump than most but it’s a good alternative for the others out there. I really love the idea that they were going for with this style of pump.Unfortunately because the flange insert only has one size (28) and it was not my size I didn’t get much milk output but that’s literally my only complaint about this pump! Despite that I was able to pump my milk it just took slightly longer and the best part? It’s quiet and easy to travel with if you’re going away for a weekend or a week it’s easy to pack up, wash up and assemble. I really loved being able to sample this item through the stellar parent panel in exchange for my honest review. Please make interchange able size inserts! I would be a size 21. The size of the flange is extremely important for any pumping mama. This is the make or break of how much milk will be expressed from the breasts. Thank you for the opportunity to try this lovely product.
This is hands-down the best breast pump I have EVER used. I’m currently exclusively breastfeeding my third baby, having also exclusively breastfed each of my older two children for over a year, and I have used MANY breast pumps throughout my nursing journey (both manual and electric).I can say without any reservation that this is the best pump I’ve ever used, across the board. It’s compact, ergonomically designed, easy to control the suction level, has a cap (which is so handy for storing in the fridge between close pumping sessions) but most of all, it is SO comfortable and extremely quick and efficient when it comes to removing milk. The cushion insert that goes inside the flange makes pumping beyond comfortable (I experience zero irritation or soreness afterward), and the design of the flange and tunnel makes it compatible with various nipple sizes.I used to use a manual mostly for engorgement relief and a double electric pump when away from baby for the night/long period of time, but I now exclusively use this because the comfort and efficiency is unparalleled. Even only pumping one breast at a time, I still find it quicker. The suction is incredible…I love how it can be as light or strong as you need depending on how much you squeeze the handle. The soft silicone also keeps a nice seal on the breast, and gives the flange a motion similar to how baby nurses. I’ve found it to be easy to transport and store as well since it is so compact. I can’t believe this is the first pump I’ve used to have a silicone insert and a cap. They are SO useful and make a world of difference! As far as cleaning goes, the pieces are nice and substantial so you don’t feel like things are going to slip through your fingers and go down the drain. It’s really easy to clean. If I had to find one con, it would be that the assembly can be a little finicky, but the pump is such a game changer for me that I don’t mind that in the least.Thank you to the Stellar Product Testing Panel for sending me this to try because it is now my #1 pump, and I’ve been actively recommending it to my fellow nursing mom friends in just the couple weeks since I’ve had it. Finally, a pump that feels like it was designed by a breastfeeding mother!
This Phillips Avent Manual Breast Pump pairs perfectly with the Philips Avent Natural bottles that I've loved since my first baby and am currently using for my third! It's compact size is easy to grab and go quickly or have on hand when out and about away from (or even with) baby.My first time using this pump, I had the same output that I would expect from my other manual pump, and even from my double electric! The fixed handle and single expression option took some getting used to, because at first I thought I needed more suction/vacuum, but I still produced the normal volume that I would expect for that time of day. I would prefer some kind of rotating handle option to be able to change hands/posture more easily. This pump can be put together easily with few parts, and I especially appreciated the wide neck of the connector that made it simple to clean. This was the first time I'd used any kind of silicone cushion insert which made for a more comfortable pumping experience. My concern is that it would be difficult to find replacement parts in-store/same day and would need to be ordered online in advance.I choose this over my current pump when I want to immediately serve pumped milk to my baby. Thanks to the Stellar Product Testing Panel for providing me with this breast pump!
As a full time pharmacist and a busy mom of a 10 month old, a two year old and a rambunctious labradoodle, I need to pump wherever and whenever I get the chance. I was thrilled to receive the new Philips Avent Manual Breast Pump, as it is imperative that I have a portable pump with me to fit my busy lifestyle. While this is easy to clean compared to other manual pumps, it still has several parts to clean. Thank you to the Stellar Product Testing Panel for providing me with this fantastic breast pump.
I’m a mom of 3, and I’m no stranger to pumping. Unfortunately, I struggle with frequent bouts of mastitis which always requires a lot of pumping to treat. I’m always looking to keep a manual pump in my diaper bag for times I find myself engorged and the hard plastic flanges are just so uncomfortable when you’re already dealing with mastitis. Thanks to the Stellar Product Testing Panel, I was able to try this Philips Avent Manual Breast Pump, and I am so grateful!First off, this pump has fabulous suction. It worked really well and really fast when I find myself engorged and uncomfortable. The best feature of this pump is hands down the soft silicone insert in the flange. It is so flexible and molds around the breast, closely mimicking a baby’s mouth. The hand piece was so easy to pump, too.I also love that this pump is so easy to take apart and clean. There weren’t any nooks or crannies that milk could get stuck in.For me, the only thing I was missing was a bigger bottle. Because I use this pump on the go, I need a larger storage capacity than the small bottle it comes with. I wish it came with a larger bottle that also attached directly to the pump. All in all, I really love this product and it had features I didn’t even know I was missing out on! Really impressed with this one!
