B+W Master 010 UV Haze The UV-Haze #010 MRC MASTER Filter from B+W blocks UV light, which can cause blurring and a blueish cast. An invisible component of daylight, UV light is more intense in pure sea air and high mountain regions. This filter is color-neutral and can be kept on your lens even when you don't need it, simply to protect the front of the lens. The filter element is made of glass and is highly transparent. Featuring B+W's MRC nano coating, the filter has an extremely low reflection. The optical information remains unaffected when it reaches the image sensor. The hydrophobic coating reduces the adhesion tendency of dirt particles and water droplets. With MRC nano coating, a water droplet remains practically spherical. It rolls over the surface, and a first-rate dirt- and water-repellent effect occurs.

B W Master 55mm UV Haze filter

A really nice filter. The new B W Master filter's have a kind of rubberized, deep grove outer ring. (Made to compete with the excellent Breakthrough Photography X4 filters.) Since it was almost the same price as other B W 55mm UV-Haze filters. I purchased it for a recently purchased small spotting scope.I have, and use a lot of B W filters. But; recently I have gone over to many Breakthrough Photography X4 UV-Haze filters, and X4 Circular polarizer filters.

B+W is the best

I used Hasselblad filters with film. Modernly, B+W is hands down the best for clarity and consistency no matter the type - UV, Neutral Density, Polarizer, you name it. I only use B+W. The coatings applied are the real deal as well - no discoloration when wet or fogged. They say you get what you pay for - with B+W, I would say you get exactly what you pay for and worth every penny.

The Master series is (from what I can tell) optically identical to the XS-Pro MRC nano it replaces. The nano coating is the same, as are the transmission stats. B+W moved all the type to the front of the filter and gave the ring larger ridges for grip, akin to the Breakthrough X4 series. They increased the prices about 30% and now ship the filters bare in a coarse cloth bag. Their marketing spin is plastic-free (and that is something I support), but this is a pure cost cutting measure that will give you headaches. The filters (I recently bought three of various sizes) arrive coated in dust and sometimes dirt likely deposited by the bag. It takes about 30-45 minutes of painstaking cleaning with wet and dry wipes to get them not quite as good as they used to arrive ... MoreThe Master series is (from what I can tell) optically identical to the XS-Pro MRC nano it replaces. I don't for studio work, but if I'm shooting travel or location work in uncontrolled environments, I'll put the best filter I can in front of expensive glass. A microfiber bag that doubled as a cleaning cloth might feel appropriately premium and solve the issue of shipping a dirty filter. I won't be purchasing any B+W filters going forward. At the new prices, Heliopan filters are no longer significantly more expensive, and I have always put them in my best lenses (Zeiss and a few others). That's the best filter you can buy in my opinion. If you can find them in the right size, Hoya's HD3 filters are excellent and ship clean. I also found Breakthrough's X4 ND series and polarizers excellent. They are 16-layer nano coated, use Schott glass and have 25 year guarantees. If it helps, here's some quick background on me-I have worked as a professional photographer and creative director for over 20 years. My work has been featured in various publications, including covers of Elle Decor among others.

Excellent 112mm filter
31 August 2022

I have purchased this for use with the Nikon Z 14-24mm F/2.8 S lens.It is an excellent filter with well machined, grippy frame. I have not noticed any effect on the images, which is exactly the point.I do not have a problem with the new B+W packaging and cloth bag. There were indeed a couple of dust specks on the filter. It took me about 10 seconds to blow them away with a blower. The filter also comes with a very nice padded pouch/envelope. And I am not stuck with another bulky yellowish plastic box!

Free Lint-monster cloth now included with purchase
23 May 2023

You would think B+W would have got the message by now that they're [cost cutting? Eco alternative???] practice of not including protective cases has really upset customers. $100 on a protective filter and straight out of the box, I'm looking for an air-blower and cloths, just to make a brand new filter usable.Optically it's ok, but in future I'll buy the Nikon alternatives which are optically same or better, and thoughtfully packaged with the buyer/user in mind,

Good and reliable filter
19 March 2023

This filter is being used on a Hasselblad HCD24 lens and a Nikkor Z 14-24mm lens to good avail. There is no color cast and I cannot detect any degradation in sharpness. I can't say anything about longevity right now, but the manufacturing quality looks promising. This is not my first filter from B+W, but my first in that size. This filter comes in a leather pouch, which is nice, but I'd prefer it in a filter case. I can recommend this filter.

Just clean it and move on...
1 October 2022

Yes, the filter comes in a fabric pouch/bag with a drawstring. Yes, the filter has some dust on it and requires cleaning before installing. Yes, you can do this.Have you ever before installed a new filter without cleaning it first? If yes, then these filters are definitely not for you.B+W also sells separately the plastic containers in three sizes to store them in, if needed). As for the quality... I think that has been addressed on other reviews.

Poor quality control for the B+W MRC nano Master filters

Same Quality Product, Different Packaging
29 September 2022

I read recent reviews regarding how B+W filters are now packaged in a cloth bag vs the traditional hard cased plastic container. Many reviewers indicated the new packaging left lint covering the filter, creating lots of work to clean the filter prior to use. I mention this up front as those comments caused me to hesitate purchasing additional B+W filters. After some additional research and reflecting on the positive experiences I've had with B+W filters I decided to stick with their products. I'm happy to report the filters arrived in good condition, with no lint, despite being packaged in a cloth bag. Maybe I was lucky or possibly the manufacturer has made changes to address the issue. Bottom line, I am happy with my decision and look forward to continued good ... MoreI read recent reviews regarding how B+W filters are now packaged in a cloth bag vs the traditional hard cased plastic container. The filter is probably just as good, but horrible packaging
2 May 2022

This is most likely the same one as the XS-pro lineup, but with increased price. What I hate is, with the increased price, they also manage to make the packaging cheaper. In stead of a case for this premium filter, they just have this little pouch or bag (looks nice tho, but is absolutely horrible in terms of funtionality), and just directly put the filter into it. My lord. There is absolutely no protection for the filter whatsoever. There was not even a piece of paper that stops the pouch scratching the filter, not to mention something like glasses cloth. When I pulled the filter out, dusts were everywhere on both sides of the filter. I purchased the milter to protect my lens, not to put even more dusts on my lens's front element. But at least the package should not present this premium item in such a damaging way.I will NEVER consider buying this again if they don't change this package. No matter how good the coating is, there are dusts that just stick there. COME ON! If you buy this, all you get is a filter full of dusts. I was so shocked that I had to write this at 2AM.
