Alaska Range and Denali Proven

I used this pad on two ski expeditions in the Alaska range in April and one Denali Expedition in May. I found it to be incredibly comfortable and warm. One of my co-guides bought this pad after our trip because it was so much more comfortable and quieter than their pad. I used this in temps down to -15F and had it paired with a closed cell foam pad that fully covered underneath it and never felt cold creeping up through the pad. It inflates super easily with the pumphouse ultra stuff sack. It packs small enough to use on weight conscious missions and comfortable enough to use on long expeditions. I am a full time, year-round mountain guide and a member of the Big Agnes team I received this gear to test and use.

Comfortable, but heavier

This is a great sleeping pad. I carried it with me on a 77 mile through hike of the Foothills trail. It's heavier than other options, and doesn't pack down super small, but it's SO Comfortable that it was worth the weight and size for me. One night I ended up having to pitch on a patch of ground with lots of tree roots. With 3.5" of height, no issues whatsoever. The other "con" is that it takes a LOT of air to inflate. I brought along a tiny electric pump and it worked great. I did try the inflation sack at home, but found the pump far faster and easier to use.So this is a great choice if you aren't trying to be ultralight and value comfort over weight.

The bounce and noise of the double outweighs the comfort.

Even better than expected!
28 July 2022

Purchased two of these in the past month to replace mine and my boyfriends old pads. our old pads (another brand) would slowly deflate, waking us up in the night to refill… I am more than happy to report that these big agnes rapide pads were more comfortable, warmer, lighter, and held air amazingly. The included fill bags made blowing up after a long day SO EASY. The two of us put these pads to the test this past week on a 5 night section hike in the beautiful Michigan UP on the pictured rocks lakeshore trail! Temps in the low 50s at night and no cold sensation through the pads whatsoever. Very pleased! For the warmth rating of these, I am amazed at the light weight and compactness. Highly recommend!

Impressed with comfort, not was set up
30 April 2023

I have spent the last 9 years trying to find a comfortable backpacking sleeping pad where my back isn't killing me in the morning, and this one is the best I've found. I have DDD in my lower back, and a lot of other sleeping pads have been almost unbearable for me. This one was surprisingly comfortable compared to all the others I've used, which have come from brands like Exped, Nemo, Kelty, Big Agnes, and some Amazon brands. There are two reasons why I did not give this a perfect score. First, set up is close to being obnoxious. I think the included bag used to inflate the sleeping pad could be very much refined. I think Nemo probably has the best similar product in the industry for and inflation bag right now. First, set up is close to being obnoxious. I think the included bag used to inflate the sleeping pad could be very much refined. I think Nemo probably has the best similar product in the industry for and inflation bag right now. I don't know how long it took to inflate the air pad, but there is a bit of a learning curve on how to get the most air into it so that you're not spending too much time inflating it.The second reason is because I question its stated R value. It got down into the 40s at night, and the pad felt cold to lay on. I use a sleeping bag that relies upon the insulation in an air pad instead of anything in the bag itself, so this made the night colder. For anyone out there who has been trying to find a sleeping pad for backpacking and is willing to sacrifice an increase in weight for increased comfort, this might be something worth trying out.

One of the best

I have about 15 nights of use on this pad, and out of the dozen high end pads I’ve had over the years, this is by far my favorite. First I’m going to address the pump sack. No, it is not the best out there. But the reviews I read about the sack are absolutely insane. 45 minutes to blow up a pad?? I truly believe a lot of people are not using it correctly. I am able to inflate my pad with the pump sack in 7-8 pumps every time. That usually takes 3-4 minutes at most. The backpacking community is very funny to me, we’re willing to put ourselves through pain and hardship conditions, then lose our minds when we have to spend a little extra time performing a nominal task. What I love about this pad: the baffles on the pad are great! They distribute my weight so well (~215lbs) and I don’t feel any pressure points when laying on it. It really makes for a comfortable sleep if you’re a side sleeper. It is also true to its R-value. I have slept on this pad in sub 15 degree temps, and had no issues with feeling any cold come through the ground! This is not the lightest pad on the market, but ultralight is underrated in my opinion. My backpacking trips are gonna be a lot smoother if I get quality sleep, as opposed to save a couple pounds. I do find this pad more comfortable than the Tensor, as well as a tad quieter. As a backcountry ranger who’s used a lot of gear, I have to say that this is one of the best pads on the market!

Insulated, superlight, compact, 3-season air chamber sleeping padWhen it comes to superlight, three-season comfort, the Rapide SL Insulated pad stands alone. Built with offset I-Beam construction, this proprietary design reduces weight while providing multi-directional support for consistent stability and comfort. This superlight air chamber pad sleeps warmer using PrimaLoft® Silver Insulation and is third party rated with an R-Value of 4.2 for use through three-seasons. The best until it’s not.

I purchased this pad a few years ago (10+) and have used this pad a few times (6-7 times). Was really great for backpacking and camping year round until this last summer when it would loose air as fast as I could blow air into it. After realizing air was seeping from too many places to repair. I decided to cut it open and see what had happened. It looks like the internal rubber liner had not just delaminated in many places but had also yellowed and broke in some places. Needless to say, this was very disappointing to discover and I feel compelled to warn others of this possibility. I don’t know what caused this but it was not from abuse. Also, I discovered much of the insulation had not been secured inside the pad and had folded over on its self making cold spots. ... MoreI purchased this pad a few years ago (10+) and have used this pad a few times (6-7 times). Upcycled pumpsack is just garbage you have to toss

Immediately upon receiving this, I attempted to inflate it. Took me over 45 minutes with the "pump sack" they include. "Pump sack" is in quotes because that's what they say it is. In actuality, it is leftovers they say are upcycled and send you so you can throw them away instead of Big A so they can remind you they SELL better pump sacks. When emailing their customer service about the issue, I was immediately reminded that you can buy a good one from them for $40! Then they insinuated that I didn't know how to use the pump sack. It's too thick, it sticks to itself, it doesn't open. It's just a bag they send you with the rapide. In the end, it didn't hold air over night either. ive been looking for something like this all my life. sleeping in the woods sucks usually and you just have to get over it but this pad is a game changer. im a side sleeping toss and turner and i can sleep like a baby on this. i slipped a silk/cotton bag liner around it and it feels like home now. i do sleep hot so i could do with less insulation(ill be purchasing the non insulated version soon) but for most people this is a good thing as in the insulation really works! its a little bigger than a nemo tensor when packed down but totally worth it for the comfort. i tried the tensor but sent it back for this and will never look back. i weigh over 200 pounds and my shoulders and hips never touch the ground while sleeping.
