A nice change from tofu or quorn, if a bit chewy. I would recommend only cooking very briefly or it just becomes very rubbery, and it cooks better wet than in oil...I just threw the water it came in in the pan with it. Goes well with S&B Curry Sauce and some noodles. I think it's a bit over priced, but that's Biona for you.

Yes I can see why people give bad reviews. You do need to know how to cook this. It s great when you saut? with veggies or make a mince in a blender and use in homemade burgers. Or in soup, oil garlic first, some her s and saut?. Throw on soups. Yes you do need to be creative to make it delicious. We all love it.

Ive made seitan from scratch and obviously that comes out softer and can taste less chewy but this really is high quality stuff. Works really well when you dont have time to prepare your own seitan. Useful in stir fries, curries, or paella even. Great option for vegan protein when you need an alternative to beans, lentils, or soy.

For those wondering about the earlier bad reviews, this is because they have drastically changed the recipe at some point in the past year or so, the old recipe really was terrible and nothing like seitan. The new recipe is great and well worth another try if you only ever tried the old version. Ocado's price for this is a tad expensive though, another major supermarket has it for quite a bit cheaper, and it is even slightly cheaper in a local independent shop, so I would only get this on offer.
the only seitan id had in the past was years ago in junk food vegan places, wasn't a fan... then I had it recently from a Malaysian street food vendor and it was amazing. So encouraged to try again I bought this, the only option on Ocado. Eat straight from the jar, in a tasty broth, great texture, flavour and versatility. So good for making an office lunch box up quickly. So pricey but it's Biona, it's glass and it's delicious. More please
This is not like any seitan I've had before. Really insipid in flavour and horrible texture. Chunks are of really variable size. Also, one of the plus points for seitan is it doesn't contain soy and yet Biona have marinated this in soy!
Love this stuff, it’s chewy and flavoursome.
Wanted to give this a try despite other poor reviews. Upon arrival the jar lid's safety button was already in the popped position and springs back up when pressed. That means the jar hadn't been properly sealed for an unknown amount of time, so it went straight in the bin.
This is really good seitan and so quick and easy for a quick vegan feed. The key is to cook it and integrate it into other foods. It is absolutely not meant to be eaten solo or cold, like a lot of things, cooking brings it to life.
Easy to use, extremely versatile and tasty. I used in sandwiches, with rice, spicy, chilli and sweet chilli sauces, and even with beans on toast! Also low in fat.
