One star removed because it's uses are limited, however it's great for building Trad anchors. Slightly heavier than Kong Argons and DMM phantoms but good bang for the buck and has good (beefy for an ultralight) rope-bearing surfaces. Typical BD construction quality. Excellent for its intended purpose so long as you're ok with small opening biners.

These carabiners are light, locking, and have a really thin profile, which on first blush seem excellent for anchors or a PAS type application. Very pleased. It's worth noting that black Diamond notes them as such, and rates them as less ideal for rappelling or running a top rope, so plan accordingly.

These absolutely work as locking carabiners. However, I find them to be just the wrong size to be easy to use while climbing. Something about the geometry of the nose and spine make them harder than other carabiners to get through hangers, and especially harder to use when there is already a piece of gear through a hanger and you are trying to fit this as a second.

I have a couple packs of these that I keep in my technical rope rescue gear pack. I use them for my belay devices, for building mechanical advantage systems, even for clipping my K9 to me when we are rapelling down a cliff face or out of a helicopter. It's always great to just have a few of these in your bag, just in case! I wish they came in a better variety of colors because my teammates also love them, so we have to make sure ours are labeled!
Great quality & surprisingly lightweight for the price! Bought a pair & fixed them to my backpack for attaching any external items quickly (e.g. water bottles, keys). Ideal product for a serious climber or city dweller.
Nice looking carabiner to have around! I haven't belayed or rappelled using this, so can't comment on its technical function, but it is a nice carabiner. Outside of its technical use, for general life purposes, I would have probably ordered another one of the BD Rocklocks as those are bigger and make great handles.
I recently purchased a couple of the black screwgate carabiners and would like to recommend these to any climber who is in need of consistent and reliable carabiners. I have used these carabiners for various tasks and they have been useful and reliable the whole way.
This is a very lightweight, but small locking carabiner that is a bit too specialized for me. I purchased one to see how it works and the best use for it, in my honest opinion, is with a webbing or sling style PAS. Do not use it with a rope lanyard or PAS, like the Petzl Adjust line. The spine is too short and the gate is too narrow. It is fine and sufficiently light for an alpine, all-purpose, non-HMS locking carabiner. If I were to put together a separate alpine rack, I would by a good bunch of these.
Like these carabiners a lot. Planning to use them on anchor setups. They are fairly light and seem strong/durable. The gates are very "snappy", that is to say have a higher spring tension as some. I think this works for anchors, but my partner thing it takes too much effort to get the rope in if you are trying to clip in. A plus and a minus I get. Also, I thought I ordered blue but ended up being sent purple. It's ok, my partner has blue ones already and we won't get them mixed up.
This is the standard locker for everything. Well built, will last decades perfect for everything. There’s a lot of lockers on the market. These are built for function, not looking cool, saving micrograms of weight or whatever someone tells you makes the others better. These are for the climber who wants function over fashion. Besides, they’re Black Diamond, so they’re already cool by default.
