I was really excited to to use these poles and they worked great on the first two trips. I love way they fold up as they fit in a small daypack without sticking out.At the beginning of my third hike, the button that holds top of the pole in the extended position popped out leaving the pole generally useless. My frustration has been amplified by my attempts get this 6 week old trekking pole repaired or replaced. The message I received after submitting a warranty claim, suggests it will be weeks before I here back from anyone. In addition, no one ever answers the phone.

I really like these poles. HOWEVER, the button that pops out (the critical part that keeps the pole sections tensioned together) has either broken off or twisted itself into one of the poles. No button pops out, and the pole is useless. Unfortunately when I pulled the pole off my pack to extend for the downhill, it didn't work, and I was at 13,000' with miles of downhill and steep snowfields to cross.I have had the poles for a little over a month and have hiked with them several times a week.

I wanted to love these poles as they would be my 5 pair of BD poles. These look and feel to be another great pole from BD but the problem is in the sizing. I'm not a tall guy and I need my poles with a minimum usable length of 110 CM ( 110 is only available with the S/M handgrip) but my hand is a little wider so I need the larger hand grip that comes on the M/L size pole. These poles just don't work for me. BD, please make a shorter usable pole with the larger hand grip please and thank you.Mike

So far so good! These are my first trekking poles and they have worked great. The cork grips are very comfortable. What I like most about the poles is the combination design - with both the Z-pole style for easy packing plus some telescoping that allows for adjustments for going up and down hill. Very sturdy and have helped so much with downhill in particular.
I bought these poles just before leaving for a 3 day/2 night backpacking trip in Yosemite. I own a pair from a competitor's brand, but hated the twist lock mechanism. This pair of poles had almost all the features I was looking for. They fold down small, the quick lock mechanism makes for on the fly adjustments, and the cork handle does not stain my hands. I did noticed the poles flexed a little more than I had expected, but did not affect performance. The only thing I didn't get with these poles were carbon fiber, because they would sold out, but these poles were still pretty light. I look forward to putting many more miles on these poles.
These poles are great and also drop a fair bit of weight compared to the prior Alpine FLZ. What I dont understand is why BD decided to stop the S/M and start M/L at 125cm. This is right around the recommended length of someone 5'9"-5'10" (the average height of a male in North America) so you either get poles you cant shorten for uphill or poles you cant lengthen for downhill. Just make the S/M stop at 130cm and the M/L start at 120cm. The Aline FLZ large actually was 120-140cm so I have no idea why they took adjustment away on this model. 125cm minimum also makes them too long to use for a fair number of trekking pole supported shelters. As someone literally in the most common height bracket I just want a little bit of adjustment to play with for BOTH uphill vs ... MoreThese poles are great and also drop a fair bit of weight compared to the prior Alpine FLZ. If you made a 110-130 or 115-130cm version they'd be the most popular size sold.
These are not my first pair of Black Diamond poles. The others in my collection are for skiing and urban exercise hikes. Other brands Iâve tried have been given away. Their locking mechanisms and strap adjustments never worked well and the tips were not replaceable. Nothing works better than BD.
I purchased these poles in the 125-130cm size since my various other poles are set at 130cm which makes them 38-39in long. Unfortunately, when these poles are set at 130cm, they are 46in long, making them too long for me to use. They will not collapse below 43in! I have used 6 different brands over the years, including others from Black Diamond, and unlike these, they are consistent in their sizing. Needless to say, I will be returning these and do not recommend them.
Watch Out for Incorrect Sizing Guide Online (read on...)Great Poles and very packable (easily fits in standard flight carryon baggage.)CAUTION: Internet Sizing is misleading-incorrect. And, the Packaging Label Sizing chart that comes with the poles is contradictory! My height is 5' 10 1/2" (179cm) and I initially bought M/L (125-140cm) size. They were too long for me- Once opened and shaft clicked into place, the FLICKLOCK adjustment was bottomed out so I could not shorten for hiking up high steps.I returned the M/L for S/M (110/125cm) and they allow more adjustment.
These poles have a spring loaded locking push pin thatâs made of two metals that will and did break. The pin has to hold all the weight you put on the pole, and because itâs two different metals is a major weak spot. While innovative in theory (push pin over clamp lock) Itâs a very bad design and it was a huge problem - my right pole broke 15 miles into trekking the 100 mile Wonderland Trail in WA. I taped the pin in (luckily it fell into the pole, not the trail) for the rest of the hike which was sketchy. The second pole broke the EXACT same way when I tried to collapse it after the hike. Avoid these poles!! The grips are very nice, but the design of the poles sucks. Donât risk it!!
