Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K Pro

$3,380.00

(348 reviews)

Professional filmmaking capabilities are now within reach of content creators at every level with the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera range. These cameras go far beyond standard camcorders, offering the same high-end features found in Hollywood productions. The combination of exceptional dynamic range, superior low-light performance, and Blackmagic RAW recording produces cinema-quality images with natural skin tones and rich, organic colours that rival expensive digital film cameras. Available in 4K, 6K, and 6K Pro configurations, each model features a large 5” LCD screen for precise focusing, multiple recording options including SD card, CFast media, and external USB-C recording, plus your choice of EF or MFT lens mounts. The 6K Pro model takes things further with built-in 2, 4, and 6-stop ND filters, an adjustable tilt HDR LCD rated at 1500 nits for bright outdoor conditions, dual mini XLR audio inputs, and extended battery life with NP-F570 style power. The lightweight carbon fibre polycarbonate construction houses advanced digital film technology in a compact, handheld design. A multifunction handgrip puts essential controls for recording, ISO, white balance, and shutter angle at your fingertips, while the specialised sensor reduces thermal noise for cleaner shadows and improved high-ISO performance. Additional professional features include four shock-proof microphones, a robust lens mount, built-in speaker, and removable battery door for extended shooting sessions. From independent films and music videos to corporate content and documentaries, these cameras bring feature film production values to any project. Each camera includes DaVinci Resolve Studio software, providing comprehensive tools for editing, colour correction, audio post-production, and visual effects in one complete package.

It's definitely a pro image and the BM raw codec is amazing, but it leaves me cold.BUT, if you have the patience and know-how and already own a bunch of Canon glass you can't beat this camera's features for the price. The built-in screen is excellent and huge. Recording straight to SSD is brilliant. It's big, but light and it's plastic construction doesn't feel cheap. All of the buttons are in the right place and do what you want them to do. I don't miss the viewfinder much. If you're cash poor and want to shoot professional, raw footage then you can't beat this camera. If you have 2x the money then buy something else.

Luckily I was still under the warranty and was able to swap out for a new one.My current camera is now giving me some issues not turning on at times after flicking the power button on.Also, the colors on the image out of the hdmi output gets messed up when I switch from live to playback mode and I have to unplug and replug the hdmi cable each time which can get annoying and awkward when you're trying to show playback to your director or client from the camera. All in all, if it's small scaled shoots/personal projects, I think it's a solid option especially given its price but I wouldn't bring it for bigger productions because I feel like it's just not reliable enough.

For the price it seems to shoot a great picture with the right lenses. I do like the professional camera feel (ease of use). I have tried shooting here and there with "DSLR" type cameras, but they didn't feel like the pro cine cameras I've worked with in the past, where as this so far has more of the feel I'm use to. Game changer
10 November 2022

It's incredible how far the pocket cinema line has come. This is now my primary camera - the addition of the dual mini XLR jacks and timecode support removes any hesitation I had of using previous versions of the pocket cinema camera. The quality of the footage, especially using the braw format, is spectacular. The UI is some of the easiest to use on any camera, and the ability to record straight to a hard drive is a game changer. I would highly recommend a few accessories to make this camera work best - namely the battery grip, without which you won't last long unplugged from power - and a cage for additional mounting points, which is crucial if you're recording directly to a hard drive. Out of the box, you can't even mount a mic directly to the body. Overall ... MoreIt's incredible how far the pocket cinema line has come. Great camera a little quirky though.

Been using a Canon 7D Markii for several years now and felt it was time for an upgrade. As one can imagine I built up a decent collection of EF-S lens to go on the 7D, so I wanted to upgrade without having to revamp all of the glass as well. I had been thinking of going w the BM 4K but didn't like the smaller sensor -MFT deal. Then I found this camera! When I finally got it; the first videos (I shoot surfing primarily) were full of noise. That was bc I exposed a little to the left on the histogram and paid the price w grainy footage. After a little research I found that lots of people new to the camera have the same problem. Always expose to the right w this camera. I also bought knockoff batteries which I would advise against because they die quick and don't work well w the battery indicator. All in all a great camera for a wide variety of users, and the best bang for your buck on the market.

Insane Image Quality for the Price

I would definitely recommend this camera to anyone looking for a cinema-quality image on a (semi high-end) DSLR budget. The image is crisp and film-like, and the RAW format opens up a word of options for coloring in post. Is it perfect? Of course not. What camera is? But, for the price it's an amazing value. One of my favorite aspects of this camera is the user interlace. It'sthe most well laid out and pleasing UI of any camera system I've used. Another big selling factor is the native compatibility for Canon EF lenses. That's a huge plus over the 4K model.Blackmagic RAW is incredibly versatile in post within DaVinci Resolve Studio. I shot mostly 6K at 8:1 compression, and while I had to optimize some media for my machine, playback worked very well. The color science of Blackmagic Film Gen 5 is truly magical and unmatched. There's also an option for ProRes RAW, but file sizes will be much, much larger (DaVinci doesn't support ProRes RAW currently, either).A couple downsides - the battery life isn't great, so grabbing a few extra batteries is a must for shoots. Blackmagic has an official battery grip for this model, but that will make the body pretty bulky. So, it depends on your rig needs. A V-mount battery may be your best bet for longer shoots. There's so IS or autofocus, but that isn't a problem for me as I prefer manual focus for video. More so, standard cinema lens are manual focus pulled anyway. The body is definitely larger than a DSLR, but it is a dedicated cinema camera so the tradeoff in size is acceptable.

It is a PRO camera.
15 December 2022

I have been using a 6K pro for 9 months. I'm prompted to weigh in because of the reviewer who wrote "How in the world would they make a 6k camera for VIDEO ONLY that cant focus?!? " Lets be clear, this is a CINEMA grade camera and there is no movie maker who would ever use autofocus or auto exposure. Classic movie cameras do not focus automatically. That is reserved for prosumer cameras. The camera comes with the same editing software that was used for Rouge One. Other cameras you buy that separately. fFr the price the image quality is unbelievable and shoots RAW video if you want to add your own LUT. If you aren't looking for a pro quality camera do not buy this. If you aspire to make Netflix quality movies, you won't find a better camera or a better deal.

My dream camera
20 August 2021

I initially entered the Blackmagic ecosystem with the Ursa Mini Pro in 2017. I loved that camera and the image I got out of it, but it got to the point where I would opt not to take it with me because it was just too big. This gives me the things I felt the regular BMPCC 6K lacked (ND filters, tilt-able screen, two mini-XLR ports, improved battery life). While a built-in stabilization system is the only other thing I wished this had, I use the IS on my Canon 24-105mm L lens and that problem is solved. My first pro camera I shot video with was the Canon 5D MKII back in 2010. Holding the 6K Pro with my Canon and Sigma lenses feels very similar in my hand and I really love that. I loved that camera and the image I got out of it, but it got to the point where I would opt not to take it with me because it was just too big. This gives me the things I felt the regular BMPCC 6K lacked (ND filters, tilt-able screen, two mini-XLR ports, improved battery life). It feels like I have the versatility and portability of a DSLR that I've missed, with the cinema quality I wished those DSLRs had. It's brought back the run-and-gun fun of shooting, while knowing I'm getting an incredibly cinematic, high quality image. If you're deciding between the 6K and the 6K Pro and don't own either, I personally think the Pro is worth the extra money. After getting used to the built-in NDs and tilt-able screen on the Ursa, those are features that I don't want to sacrifice. If you're questioning whether to upgrade from the 6K, the new features I mentioned are really the main differences (besides giving you the option to add a viewfinder). If they're not important to you, then hopefully that's your answer! If they are, this is a fantastic investment.

Still the best cinema camera under 10k

The past two years I've shot on the Red Komodo, Sony fx3,6,9 canon r5c, c70, and c300 iii, even using ninja v's to get prores raw but this camera has got them all beat. I love and use the DJI Ronin 4d but the image from this camera is better, it's not the best for long shoots on a gimbal because of power needs and ergonomics. I'm also a certified resolve colorist and a deep understanding of color science has reaffirmed my admiration of this camera and braw. If you considering any of these cameras this is the best, cheaper and you get the full studio version of the best linear editor programs to boot. After shooting extensively while all of the above-mentioned cameras and more importantly color grading all of their highest-quality codecs it's not even close and braw ... MoreThe past two years I've shot on the Red Komodo, Sony fx3,6,9 canon r5c, c70, and c300 iii, even using ninja v's to get prores raw but this camera has got them all beat. If you considering any of these cameras this is the best, cheaper and you get the full studio version of the best linear editor programs to boot. After shooting extensively while all of the above-mentioned cameras and more importantly color grading all of their highest-quality codecs it's not even close and braw achieves this in smaller easy to edit/color files on inexpensive media. Built-in NDs, a beautiful 5 super bright LCD, GYRO Data for easy post stabilization, and the best laid-out menu/UI make this camera my personal favorite. I only hope the next iteration can use a v mount or the larger sony np batteries. This camera is a power hog like any cinema with an internal fan and even with the grip it zips through batteries. I suggest the tilta setup that has v mount plate and the mounts underneath the camera and you can run all day on a few batteries. All the other brands except Panasonic price gate features and because of that the consumer suffers and I have no idea why people continue to spend way more on a lesser product
