My family and I must maintain a strict gluten free diet due to celiac disease. For more than ten years, we did not eat oats because it was included with the list of foods that were off limits: wheat, rye, barley, and oats. Then we learned that oats didn't actually have the offensive gluten in its composition, but was contaminated by farming procedures. Well, I thought, that's good to know — we'll just grow our own oats, not really, that's a location joke: we lived in central Texas which is rocky ranch country, not suitable for farming. Then I read that Bob's Red Mill, which had long since proven itself as a reliable provider of truly safe gluten free products, was growing their own oats, on their own wheat-free fields, harvested with equipment that has never touched ... MoreMy family and I must maintain a strict gluten free diet due to celiac disease. Joy! We could actually skip the farming & purchase gluten free oats. It was like the return of a long, lost treasure! I had two children that had never had oats. We welcomed Bob's Red Mill Gluten Free Oats into our cooking & discovered some new, favorite recipes and resurrected some old favorites. Bob's Red Mill Steel Cut Oats was something different from the regular cuts of oats & quickly became a breakfast favorite with its nutty texture. Toppings of butter & maple syrup are current favorites with plans to try cinnamon apple topping soon.

Repurchased again and again in this large size. Great value and quality, lovely nutty taste, the perfect chewy but non-mushy texture. Only purchased gluten free because the regular was out of stock, I have no gluten sensitivities so cannot comment. I like to support Bob's Red Mill as I understand it is employee owned and ethically operated.

I have these for breakfast most days, excellent texture and keeps a bit of bite which I like. Good size packet and packaging, keeps moisture out and seals well. You do come across the occasional husk which you have to pull out of your teeth (maybe one to two per breakfast bowl?). High quality and easy to use, I just cook them on the stove top. They do take longer than the rolled version, but good in soups to use like rice/barley etc.

For breakfast enthusiasts! These gluten-free steel-cut oats are great! They are seriously hearty and make for a satisfying morning meal. You can customize them by adding bananas or any other fruit you like. The quality ingredients ensure a delicious taste, and if you want a touch of sweetness, just drizzle some honey. Trust me, these grains will show you how good breakfast can be!
As a newly diagnosed celiac patient, I enjoy these gluten free oats every morning without worrying whether I am going to have some sort of adverse reaction later on. They are great!I make a quadruple batch of Alton Brown's recipe (you can Google it) at the beginning of each week. That batch takes me through till the next weekend. To me, these oats are just as good warmed up each morning as if I had taken a lot more time to make a smaller fresh batch.Next time I order, I will get the 25 pound bag because I eat a lot of these, and even with the shipping costs, the big bag is quite a bit cheaper than buying the smaller bags with free shipping.I will always buy direct from Bob's Red Mill in the future, because the staff is so helpful and because I can trust both ... MoreAs a newly diagnosed celiac patient, I enjoy these gluten free oats every morning without worrying whether I am going to have some sort of adverse reaction later on. I caution those who buy from resellers on Amazon or wherever to make your purchase decisions based on the package label in the product photo rather than the description written by the reseller. Don't make the mistake I did a few months ago and buy oats that the reseller claimed to be gluten free, only to discover when I opened the shipping box and read Bob's (correct) label, that the oats in this bag were not gluten free.Oops! So I had to give away almost 25 pounds of oats to one of my employees who is able to process gluten normally. She was happy with her new oats, but this is a mistake I won't make again. So my advice is to read those labels carefully and enjoy the exact Bob's Red Mill products you were expecting! :)
This is my favourite hot cereal for breakfast. It’s nicely cut, perfectly chewy, cooks fast and smells delicious, like oat mill cookies. I like it a little spicy, but you may add fruit or berries with a splash of vanilla to trick the taste buds and make it taste “sweet”.
