A30 aviation headset
18 September 2023

I bought this Bose A30 aviation headset when it came out last April. Having owned a Bose 10 and currently own two Bose A20s that I love, I was totally disappointed in the A30. The ANR is nowhere near as good as the Bose A20 and it doesn't have enough clamping force so the cockpit of the aircraft is much noisier when I wear glasses. I also get a high pitched squealing noise on transmit no matter where I set the squelch on my audio panel. I love Bose products, but they missed the boat on this one. It's the first Bose product I ever returned. I know they will improve in the future, but for now I'm sticking with my Bose A20s.

An improvement to an already solid headset

The sound modes are an added feature but it won't be something utilized much. The better part of this headset over the A20 is the fit. The A20s had 2 small cushions of fur, which are localized spots on the head. The A30s provide a more uniform fit around the head and less clamping force. Everything else is pretty much the same. In my humble opinion I feel like the wire and sound module are/feel cheaper? Just my thoughts.

I bought these headphones two years ago and use them for my remote job. I wear them all day 8+ hours each day. They are amazing! Super comfortable, noise cancelling and sound quality is awesome. I use them to take/make calls at work over VoIP and the voice quality is crystal clear. I am so glad I purchased these!

Bose A30

Have 2 Lightspeed Zulu 3’s we’ve been using along with Original Bose headsets with the lemo plug. Downsized and sold the plane with the built in plugs and decided to keep and sell 4 of the Bose and get 2 new for the rear seats. A30’s new so bought one to try, great headset, a bit less bulky than the Zulu 3’s, noise reduction similar, music better in the light speeds (maybe, did 9 setup).

I have used Bose A20 headsets since they were introduced and have always loved them. I read a lot of mixed reviews on the nes A30’s, mostly negative based on the cost and not having anything any real new features than the 20’s. I would agree that they could have come up with some new features, but still well worth the cost. I have been using the A30’s now for a few weeks and I am very pleased with them.

I prefer the A20 over the A30
18 September 2023

Unfortunately as a long term Bose enthusiast I returned the A30 headset as I did not live up to the A20.All the improvements highlighted actually are adding to the dissatisfaction level.1. the lesser clamping force causes the break of the seal with the ear cups allowing more noise to penetrate when moving the head side to side and continually if you were sun or eye glasses.2. The new head band also is to slick causing the head set to be pulled forward by the weight of the mic and the lesser head set pressure.3. The music interface for what ever reason sounds much worse than in all my 3 other A20 so it may be filtering out something. I tried all settings with no success

Lighter A20
21 September 2023

I tried the A30 at sun and fun and really liked it. It reminded me of a headset I liked but was no longer made. After using it for the last several flights (about 50 hrs), for the plane I fly (unpressurized turbo-prop) it is no better than the A20. The A30 has better high velocity wind noise reduction, but overall noise has a lot of background noise. It is almost like a white noise. The background noise makes it hard to hear communications on the radio. The A30 is light weight and has a good length line for plugging in. Blue tooth is good. out of aircraft sound is great.

Maybe the best headset of all time

This is my first ever Bose aviation headset and my second aviation headset pair. I really have no complain about the sound quality both when it comes to listening to ATC or when listening to my tunes. The EQ of these headsets are truly second to none. Comfort it’s a 10/10 as well, there are no pressure points and on the aircraft that I fly (PA-28) most of the engine noise is blocked passively and when the ANC it’s activated it’s very quiet (as quiet as you can safely get). That said I have had an issue regarding the tap control feature, I’m not sure it’s just my model and perhaps this is an isolated issue, but when I’m flying sometimes the incorporated mics open up and let in sound, just as if I had activated the feature, but I haven’t. This problem was common and frequent enough that I had to disable the feature all together on the control module. It’s fixed now, but it’s a shame that if sometime I want to really use it for real, I won’t be able to.Regarding the software support side of things It would be great if Bose offered support for the A30 in their music app, just as a way of tuning the EQ or perhaps making software updates. All in all this is a great headset and you can’t really go wrong with it. I am just starting to fly airplanes but I expect it to last long into my career.

Same great product, some annoyances
14 April 2023

Can’t tell the difference between the A20 to be honest. sturdy, feels light and great Noise cancellation.Cons-Controller could have been updated like the Lightspeed Delta Zulu-tap to hear feature can be accidentally activated when adjusting headset-clamping force feels light that it kinda slips-old bag looked better and had more utility

Somewhat disappointed

I have had several pairs of Telex ANR headsets and a set of Lightspeed Mach 1's with custom earmoulds. I have always heard that the Bose were so superior and were the gold standard of ANR's. My old Mach 1's were having trouble staying in the ear moulds so I decided to bite the bullet and buy the Bose.My Mach 1's were every bit as effective with the ear moulds. I really can't tell any difference. I have read about pilots thinking the engine stopped when they turned on the ANR. They must have had different headsets than the one I bought or they were wildly exaggerating. They do cancel some noise-Yes, but not to the point that they are worth the extra $500 over the other brands. I would consider returning these to Bose but I have already applied for the CFI rebate and ... MoreI have had several pairs of Telex ANR headsets and a set of Lightspeed Mach 1's with custom earmoulds. I'm not sure how I will feel after an equivalent amount of time with these earmuff headsetsRegarding the lack of bluetooth, I have an intercom that inputs audio so I really didn't think the bluetooth feature was worth the extra money. I also felt that the more complex, the more problems to repair.
