I have been a loyal Bose user ever since I purchased my first iDock way back when to place my iPod on top of to listen to in a 2002 SUV that I drove for 14 years(!!!). I’ve tried have had many premium brand stereo systems mostly in cars have purchased a couple of other Bluetooth speakers that were much cheaper as they had good reviews along with recommendations indeed they were good but not Bose good. Other brands included BO, Harman Kardan, Beats, premium SONY systems others - most at about the same price range. #1 thing that sets this brand apart for me is the clarity- it’s unbelievable…I’m someone who loves my music loud with bass treble maxed who loves hip hop rap music along with classic rock RB. When you’re maxing out the volume level especially when you’re playing music that often causes the actual speakers (or rear view mirror -lol) to vibrate it’s most often the case, as it was with the brands listed above that the music loses a bit of it’s potency as it becomes less clear sharp- no Bose I’ve ever had including my Bose QuietComfort 35 Wireless Headphones II Bose Noise Cancelling Headphones 700 before that has ever been anything but clear clean sounding just as intended to be. This product in particular is so conveniently sized easy to travel with- the sound output is incredible for the size - it can get as loud as I’ll ever need it to works wonderful when paired with my MacBook Air while watching Netflix or any of the other streaming platforms on it. The Bluetooth connects seamlessly quickly to it as well as to my phone (also Apple) - I seldom have to move it to another room as you can set the volume high enough to hear it from rooms away. Although more expensive, it’s competitively priced with peer products often less. My only wish is that it was wireless like many of the newer models (this one is about 2 years old), however I’m it sure if the wireless have as much power. However, there’s just one cord that fits nicely underneath the base and it can’t be seen if you run it straight out from the back the unit is very sleek nice looking. Very solid, I don’t worry about the cord ever getting comprised expect to be using this for as long as Bluetooth is still the “thing”- my iDock unfortunately is just about obsolete now only being able to use it with my still working well iPod but that’s it just a matter of time before my iPod goes…. If you’re in the market for something like this, make sure to consider it. Bose also sells refurbished ones on their website at great deals - often like $100 off if you’re lucky enough to find one open-boxed at Best Buy then that’s a score too. The brand is always coming out with new improved products so it’s not too difficult to find a sale on their site if you check regularly. It also has phone Alexa features button I do not use Alexa so cannot speak to that. There’s also a screen on the front side that tells you which Bluetooth it is hooked to what you’re listening to which is very nice. Love this speaker- the sound in all aspects - clarity, dimension (sounds like surround sound), power volume capability doesn’t look possible given the size but it’s the real deal!

The speaker sound is absolutely great but there are quite a few problems with this speaker I wasn't expecting from a company as high end as bose, especially for the price point. At this moment I find it to only be a speaker. Alexa took 2 days to set up because it wouldn't play music through Alexa but she would respond. She wouldn't pause or play but the next day suddenly everything worked. Now Alexa isn't working. When Alexa was working the volume was inconsistent with the music. For example if we asked alexa to play a song it would be really quiet, much quieter than Alexas voice, so we would turn up the volume. If you spoke to her whole music was playing her voice was insanely loud, even if the music wasn't loud. Not a massive deal except the volume of each so ... She would play one song really quiet and one song blasting. When we decided to test it out just connecting it as a normal speaker and playing our music not through Alexa it played all songs at proper volume. For the price point I think bose needs to fox the Alexa feature. I'm at a point debating on whether or not it's worth to keep the speaker or if I should swap for something else. Makes me really sad.

Bought this to replace an old Denon which suddenly stopped receiving AM radio signals. (My wife is an avid Smooth radio listener) I thought the Bose speaker would be a good replacement having the the availability of 6 preset buttons for my wife, and the wireless and blue tooth options for me. I did some research before purchasing ie. read the Bose online manual. Setup was quick and fairly simple for us octogenarians, but it quickly became apparent the preset buttons could not be set up for radio without premium subscriptions to Spotify or Apple play. So paying £11 for a subscription for the convenience of using the system to listen to the radio was a non starter. The user manual did not make this clear. I bought this a month ago and have buyers remorse. The good:Sound is far superior than any other speaker I have herd. Crisp sounds and full base, A delight with classical music and rock. The bad:I use it as a google speaker and controls suck to high haven. touch button is annoying and the sound control is grossly inaccurate. sound sensitivity is awful. I have more and better features in my last speaker.I am rating all of this compared to my last speaker and the price is very over valued. I am keeping it based only on the richness of the sound.
This smart speaker is beautiful to me, especially when the artist's artwork is being displayed on the screen. The sound quality and volume is more than adequate for a smart bluetooth speaker this size. The sound is especially impressive when HD quality music is playing through it. Unfortunately, Bose Smart Speaker 500 does not support Adaptive Sound through Amazon Alexa, unless you have an Echo product. Without Adaptive Sound support, you have to constantly be aware of the volume level or Alexa's voice could give you and your neighbors a pretty good start, if you live in an apartment. The speaker and Alexa can be glitchy at times with Alexa not understanding commands and having to reset the speaker. The build quality of the speaker is top notch, as long as you take ... The speaker and Alexa can be glitchy at times with Alexa not understanding commands and having to reset the speaker. The build quality of the speaker is top notch, as long as you take care of it according to manufacturers suggestions. However, I have had to return several of theses due to manufacturers defects, (ie scratches, lower sound in one of the two transducers, display screen crooked and scratches and scuff marks on the bottom of the speaker. The speaker I have currently had scratches and scuff marks on the bottom of it when it arrived. I like it enough that I'm learning to live with it. Again. the Bose Smart Speaker 500 is nice if you get a good one.
This was the poorest experience I have encountered using a 'smart' device. The sound quality was good but that is about the only positive part of the past two weeks. It took several frustrating hours to set up the Bose 500 speaker. The unit would not recognize the Airplay apps, would not set up TuneIn and allow presets to be established. It took several resets including reinstalling the app and reinitiating the smartspeaker to get it working properly. Bose online tech support was not helpful. After all that the + volume button on the speaker did not work. With the issues I experienced I did not feel comfortable that I wouldn't have any more future problems so did not opt for an exchange and returned it for a refund from BestBuy (hassle free return was a positive ... My original generation one Amazon Echo finally gave it up. I love that thing. It played my music and read my Kindle Books to me. I've had other Echos, put experienced problems with this. So I decided to go with the best and got the Bose Smart Speaker 500.5 Stars! It can play all of my music from my extensive Amazon Music Library and it sounds awesome.I docked my overall rating two stars because the Bose won't read my Kindle Books. If that is important to you, that's a no go. It will start a book, or pickup where I left off on another device: but then cuts out prematurely. So that a huge frustration if you are a kindle fan and like the ability to have them read to you. But, the Bose will play all my music with no problems so its worth it for that to me. After ... I'm still in my return window, but being able to listen to my extensive music amazon music library is most important so I'm keeping it for that.
As the title suggests. Happy with the hardware but the app is so lacking in features it is making me reconsider the whole purchase. The speakers keep ungrouping. An excellent option for folks not intimidated by tech. For the refurbished unit that I got for a cool $150 discount, setting up required careful sequence of steps - factory reset using physical buttons, connection to the internal wifi provided "by" the unit (early Chromecasts needed this, causing much frustration), and then proceed in the Bose app from there - firmware upgrade, setting up accounts etc.Once set up, its a pleasure to see the album art on the unit (you didn't add ID3 tags to thousands of songs for nothing!). It's also invaluable to know what's playing if you're doing stream services.A minor gripe that you have to decide in the app whether you want Alexa or Google - they can be switched back and forth in the app, but not used simultaneously.Sound ... If you're an audiophile then none of all review matters to you anyway, but for the rest of us who listen to music because it reminds us of the uncomplicated choices offered by the 20th century, this is an excellent choice.
Still loving this speaker. Use it for Music. But also use bluetooth connection for my TV. Was thinking about a sound bar at one point. But this does this the job more than I will ever need. Sounds great on all levels.Only downfall for me when I 1st purchased was I thought it would be portable via battery just based on size. My bad for assuming. Glad I ended up keeping it.Value: It is pricey in all honesty. Had a Samsung $140 Soundbar with woofer and I felt that was plenty loud. I think most people will never put this at max volume in the house. End of the day, great if willing to pay premium price for the Bose name.
