Bose asked that I review my Bose Portable Smart Speaker. In short, I reported that the speaker does not reconnect to WiFi when the power is turned off and then on. The speaker must be either rebooted or factory reset. Rather than take the review seriously, Bose sent me a technical note about weak WiFi signals. Bose, it is a software problem in the speaker, not weak WiFi. I own a Bose home speaker 450. It does not have this problem. I have owned two Bose portable smart speakers. Both have the problem. The WiFi signal is full strength. Please correct your product startup software. Again, Sonos does not have this problem.

There are two things I look for in a smart speaker - design and sound quality. I owned a Bose speaker many years ago for my iPod (yes, I'm that old). When it was time to get a new one, I never even considered another brand. Once again, Bose hit it out of the ballpark. The sound is amazing. Bought this speaker spring 2024 refurbished from BOSE for $250 for my back yard patio. This speaker is ideal if you have the Bose eco system already since it pairs and controls via cell. Overall, this speaker is good value at the refurb price, as this speaker sounds well at medium volume. If you want something loud or with heavy bass there are better options for the full retail price. Definitely gotta buy the charging port and plastic outdoor sleeve for trouble free charging/durability. Battery life is OK but can be extended if the unit is fully turned off but then you'll have to manually turn on - hence, why you should get the charging port. 1) The first issue with this product is that when you don't listen to any sound/music it disconnect or unpair itself after 20 minutes or so. I called Bose Tech Support and they told me that it's a feature to save battery power. They kind of wanted to make it a smart device. So I ask them if there is a way to turn off that auto-unpair feature since I am using it while plugged on a wall power outlet? Answer: No. Engineer mistake#1: To give us limited option. I used to have a cheaper bluetooth device that was paired until I unpair it myself. This is when I understood why we couldn't test or pair the product sample that was in store. 2) 2nd issue is that after disconnect, to pair again the device is a nightmare. I wish there were a way to at least plug it through cable but Bose engineers didn't planned for something like that. But I have to say that sound quality was great though. For now I've just returned the product.

With the revolve plus it’s great to have it sitting off for any amount of time and then trigger it on by just connecting to Bluetooth or an iPhone shortcut, but you have to physically touch the Bose portable speaker to turn it on. You don’t have to do that with airplay to HomePods and you don’t have to do that with the revolve plus but the speaker you do, which is an irritant as it came out after the revolved plus and lacks the former technology. Even if there’s a reason Bose limits this, they could allow it only one in Bluetooth mode like The revolve plus is limited to what function is in this manner. It’s just the more expensive device has airplay too, but valued functionality of the cheaper product and is not competitive with HomePods, minis, or Sonos in this regard.have read many posts about people desiring this, but it blows me away. Bose has never done a thing to make some of these functions possible when it’s technologically possible through other sellers and even within select products they sell.

This is a great product, but as another review mentioned the Google Assistant feature isn't enabled in NZ yet. It is possible to get it working though with a VPN through your router, or an iphone VPN hotspot (will not work with android VPN hotspot) Took an hour or 2 and lots of patience but I eventually got it connected to Google assistant. You connect the speaker to the Hotspot, get the assistant setup. then you can switch it back to the home wifi. Also has issues with dual band routers, I had to set the router to only 2.4gz temporarily to get it to work. Big effort but it now works great. Oh also. the dock ... Total time of having speaker was for 14 months. I finally used my protection plan and my intention was to get it replaced. Well best buy gave me back the money I had payed for speaker which was $432.
