Killer distortion. It is my favorite distortion pedal out of several I've tried. The tone knob in particular does a great job of darkening or brightening your tone in a useful way. Some tone knobs only have one sweet spot... not this one. There is also plenty of gain on tap, and furthermore, turning the gain down gives a really sweet overdrive tone. My only complaint is that, in my opinion, the mode II is pretty lame. It boosts the mids and cuts the highs a little too much, resulting in a tone closer to a fixed wah than, say, a mid-boosted tube screamer. Also, the overall volume jumps rather noticeably when switching from mode I to II. However, given the price, build quality, and sound of mode I, the pedal easily deserves 5 stars.

I use this product as my main distortion for my guitar with a combination of all of my other pedals, it has great options for distortion with all of the different knobs and switches. I would buy this product again and again if i could

I bought this because I have a Boss ME/X pedal board/effects unit, and it has an output for the turbo switch. I just got my BOSS Turbo Overdrive SD-2 fixed (out of production), and that is what I used to use, until my kid took it on an Eastern Europe tour and it quit! I actually find the Turbo Distortion a little easier to adjust, and having just listened to a CD of our recent jam band session, I can say that it sounds good. With other exterior adjustments, I got a pretty good "Jerry" sound on that singing, round-sounding sustain he often used, like in the segue between "Ashes, Ashes" and "Samson and Delilah", with some of that "Blues for Allah" desert-y stuff thrown in, if you know what I mean. It's a pretty good all around fuzz, not as extreme as a Metal Zone, but ... MoreI bought this because I have a Boss ME/X pedal board/effects unit, and it has an output for the turbo switch. It's a pretty good all around fuzz, not as extreme as a Metal Zone, but it does not give you a good, fat overdrive sound. The issue is always getting girth at low volume. Or, in other words, some transformer sag + speaker warmth, without actually driving the amp. I use an Egnater Tweaker 88 for the miracles, but this pedal performs well, and is a good, sturdy, "no surprises" piece of gear - nothing wrong with it at all.

This isn't a bad pedal by any means, but it didn't quite fit my rig. If I had to choose, I'd personally go with the DS-1 over the DS-2, because the additional gain setting didn't add enough to justify this pedal for me. Another pedal to look at is the Pro Co Rat 2, which offers overdrive, distortion, and fuzz, depending on how much gain you use. One thing to keep in mind with these Boss distortions is that they sound best going into an already overdriven amp, or stacked with an overdrive pedal. Whichever you choose, the DS-1 and the DS-2 have both been used by various pros, such as Kurt Cobain and John Frusciante.
I gave this pedal a test upon receiving it. I'd heard only positive things about the DS-2 so I decided to get one for myself. I am very impressed. The DS-2 provides a heavy, saturated distortion. There is a mode switch that effectively allows you to choose a mid humped distortion or a mid cut distortion. This offers a good amount of versatility. The controls allow you to fine tune your sound. It offers a warmer colour pallet over the DS-1.I fully recommend this pedal for distortion that needs to be warm enough to almost become a fuzz without crossing the line.
This is basically THE pedal to get some Frusciante like riffage and lead tones. If that is what has brought you to looking up the DS-2, then go ahead and get yourself one, this is the pedal you seek for that sound.
I've been using the DS-1 off and on for several years. The DS-2 offers a warm side and the B side has a bite via remote option. After working with multiple guitars I was able to use both sides of the pedal effectively. Use your guitar toggle switch, volume, and tone to really get the most out of this pedal. Tip: If you have Boss MS-3 or similar use the ctrl option to setup remote switching.
A versatile sounding yet simply distortion. Certainly fatter sounding than the DS1 and to my ear, has a high output signal. Perfect cor achieving those Frusciante ‘Stadium Arcadium’ tones. I believe the man himself used one.At a shade over £50 you really can’t go far wrong with this. It solo be staying on my board for a long while!
it was so cool! i always wanted a ds-2 pedal and now that I had to chance to get one it did not disappoint! this paired with my new guitar really did help improve the sound im trying to go for!
