Boss RC-10R Rhythm Loop Station
Boss RC-10R Rhythm Loop Station PERFORM AT THE SPEED OF INSPIRATION Combining song-based looping and organic rhythms in a compact package, the RC-10R brings fresh inspiration to live performances, songwriting sessions, and daily practice. This next-generation Loop Station is a real-time creation machine, enabling you to develop spontaneous music that moves and grooves with two unique song sections, intros/endings, and rhythm fills. Onboard controls and visual loop indicators provide easy, self-contained operation, while expanded control is possible with external switches and MIDI. A vast rhythm library is on hand to cover nearly any music genre, and you can even import your own rhythms to personalize the RC-10R for specific songs and styles. Next-generation performance tool combining song-based looping and dynamic rhythms in a small footprint Cover nearly any genre with over 280 preset rhythm styles that include two unique sections, intro/ending fills, and two transition fills Sixteen versatile drum kits with high-quality sounds from the BOSS and Roland rhythm libraries Stereo looper engine with six hours of recording time and class-leading 32-bit AD/DA and 32-bit floating-point processing Serial two-track operation for building loop performances with two independent song parts Two circular indicators display loop and rhythm playback status Simple operation with informative LCD and intuitive interface Onboard storage for 99 phrase memories and 50 user rhythms Selectable output filter to optimize guitar and rhythm sounds for a guitar amp or full-range sound system Support for expanded control via external footswitches, an expression pedal, or MIDI Full MIDI I/O provided with space-saving mini TRS jacks (BMIDI-5-35 adaptor cable available separately) Mac/Windows software for importing WAV loops and user rhythms in SMF format Additional content available for download at BOSS Tone Central Next-Generation Loop Station for Modern Song Performers BOSS’s famous Loop Station products are the leading loopers in the world, with a wide range of models that support the unique creative needs of all types of musicians. The RC-10R introduces a new breed of Loop Station that draws inspiration from popular modern performers who incorporate percussive rhythms with song-style looping. Designed for in-the-moment music creation, the RC-10R gives guitarists and singer/songwriters a unique, free-flowing tool for developing ideas and making stage performances more dynamic and compelling. A Song-Based Looper and Smart Drum Machine, All in One The RC-10R brings loops and rhythms together in the most sophisticated and interactive way yet. In contrast with the more basic guide rhythms in other Loop Stations, each of the RC-10R’s rhythms have complete song structures with separate parts. The two-track loop engine works in a serial fashion and is perfectly synced to the rhythm, allowing you to capture independent song sections with their own unique rhythmic backing. Two fill variations bring natural energy when transitioning between sections, while intro and ending fills let you start and finish pieces in an organic way. Top-Quality Rhythm Sounds and Organic Grooves The RC-10R is ready to take on whatever music you play, from rock, pop, and acoustic to Latin, jazz, electronica, and beyond. There are over 280 onboard rhythm styles to choose from, all with natural, organic grooves to support your music. And if you don’t find what you need inside, simply import your own SMF rhythms with dedicated Mac/Windows software and store them in 50 user locations. Whatever style you choose, you can easily change the sonic flavor with 16 different kits, instantly transforming a groove from heavy rock to light percussion and everything in-between. Adapts to Your Creative Approach While the RC-10R’s loop and rhythm engines work together in complete harmony, they’re also designed to work just as well apart. You’re able to build two independent loops with no rhythmic backing at all, perfect for creating stripped-down song performances and evolving ambient soundscapes. It’s also possible to use the RC-10R as a foot-operated drum machine with real-time control over song sections and fills, making it an essential partner for stage accompaniment, jam sessions, and practice. Expanded Control for Power Users With its interactive displays and multi-function controls, the RC-10R is a standalone powerhouse. But some users crave even more control, and the RC-10R delivers. To start, there’s a jack for connecting up to two footswitches or an expression pedal, providing extended control of stop, undo/redo, loop volume, and other functions. Going further, full MIDI I/O is provided on space-saving mini TRS jacks, opening up a multitude of direct-access functions and sync options with other MIDI devices. Class-Leading Looper Engine BOSS Loop Stations are renowned for their great sound quality, and the RC-10R offers the best to date. Its loop recording engine features 32

This looper makes being home alone seem more fun than the movie. The addition of drums to a looper is great for those of us without davidos drum pad busking skills. Boss hooked it up with the ability to control loop and rhythm volumes separately as well as split the signal to a separate out for both or combined. The midi control is essential so glad they added it but the 1/8" trs is ignorant and the placement stinks too. It's a STOMP box. Why use the tiniest connectors that can break the easiest? Best option is you migrate this pedal to an edge of the board and hope your cable don't get sheered off. If not you'll have to get some 90 deg adapters to go with your special midi cables. Dont waste your time looking at a guitar center. You'll spend most your time looking at the empty racks tags to see if what you want is sold out or just poorly organized in another part of the store. Or you could ask a employee that isn't busy and is knowledgeable... let me know when you find one. You'd think they'd sell the cable that goes with all the boss pedals like this that they sell, about half a dozen of them, but then again you are thinking like a customer with convenience in mind and not an accountant with inventory issues. I dont know the percentage of people that utilize the midi feature but gc inventory says it aint enough...so chances are a used one hasnt had these ports used and stomped on. They are meant to be stepped on too so they are tough. No need to buy new. Especially because there are a lot of these online. This pedal is awesome. You should try to find one used online, while looking for cables and adapters.

It's been awhile since I've had the creative juices flowing; this looper has definitely helped! After doing exhaustive research, watching videos and reading reviews, I decided this was the one. Why? Sound quality and reliability. Sure, at first it might not be the easiest out there the use but one you get the hang of it, it works! I like the stereo capabilities. Worked like a champ with my pedalboard and now experimenting using it with my Helix.was able to capture my idea for a song and take with me to a friends place for a jam. Love the storage amount too! Is it perfect, no but it will get the job done. Wish it were easier to create a "drone" type background for progressive rock type music.

Purchased a Boss RC-3 years ago and wanted to step up to a little larger looper with more options. Boss has always kinda been my "brand" for these kinds of products. Narrowed it down to either the RC-10R or the RC-500. The RC-10R appeared to have everything I needed. Watched a bunch of videos on YouTube and purchased this pedal. Not sure if there would be a way to make the design of the unit more pedal board friendly tho.

I bought this to replace digitech trio + (band in a box). I realised I needed to be in control of the drums and bass, and as fun as trio is, not easy just to go directly to the rhythm you want.Anyway, I'm using the limited but usable tone studio software to load on my bass line wavs from logic pro. As you can have only two tracks on one memory, an external pedal is needed to cycle through memories- I got an inexpensive Nux pedal, works fine. Can send drums to another amp/PA. Would like to have been able to send drums, track to one amp, direct from guitar to another. Slowing down tracks doesn't work well (Trio was much better here) with noticable distortion/artifacts in playback.
The unit is tricky to use. It requires a good bit of practice to get it to do what it is supposed to. I have not used all of the functions yet but as an out of the box looper with rhythm, I am a little disappointed. The drums do sound good with useful realistic fills. I also use a beat buddy and I intend to use both. As a solo acoustic musician, I don't always need the loop effect and the beat buddy has a larger library and a faster menu to negotiate. The looper is tricky to use in that you can't be off at all on your timing as it won't sync. The other thing I found is you need to use longer loops so that you don't drift out of time with the drums due to accumulative loop recycles. The other thing I found is you need to use longer loops so that you don't drift out of time with the drums due to accumulative loop recycles. Short loops will slowly drift out of sync faster due to very slight lapse that will accumulate each cycle. The unit does try to correct a little but is to slow. In live performance, you do need to practice with the unit because if your off, you have to erase and start over which could be embarrassing. Also on the other end, if you are off time ending the loop too soon it will throw it out of sync as well. It is a good practice tool though. Im not sending the unit back because I think I can work with it for my needs. I have not tried to build the sequence as depicted on the Boss sample video so I would suspect that would be even more tricky to get right. Lastly you must be purposeful on the buttons as the unit can get confused if you don't hit the buttons solidly. In as far as quality, it is a Boss built like a tank pedal and will likely last for many years. I have Boss pedals that I have had for well more than ten years of hard use and they still work great.
Upgraded from Boss RC3 for functionality, and from NUX MG-300 for better drums sounds and rhythm. The RC-10R achieves both of these very well, with excellent sound quality and adaptability. However, Boss are missing a trick by not having a looper that also provides decent on board guitar effects, like the NUX does for a little over £100 these days. Come on Boss, give us an all in one version of the RC-10R please. Love the RC-10R though now that I have got the timing sorted of switching between tracks and using fills.
I use this product to create loops to gig with. The sound quality is superb. I like tracking to the MANY drum loops and the kit selections make it suitable for just about any style. The drum and percussion patterns are widely varied and useful. It's is a great drum machine and I like using it in the studio for easy creation of rhythm parts without getting lost in a huge list from wav packages. The downside is, it's not ideal for creating apart with drums live because of all the menus to scroll. It takes a couple hours to get the hang of navigation but the level of customization of each loop is amazing. With all these selections come at the price of time and in live situation you just can't spent time in setting up all the parameters. I did a gig at the Canyon Club with it recently and it worked perfectly for playback of loops I had pre recorded. One other downside is having to double tap to stop but that is pretty standard with loopers.
This was the looper I needed! I originally had a TC Electronic Ditto X4 looper (and am keeping because it's a great looper). Wanted a drum machine as backing rhythm for performance, writing, practice and recording. Picked up a Beat Buddy Mini. Quickly realized a major issue. The Best Buddy Mini and Ditto X4 didn't sync. Within 4 measures they were out of sync so bad they were unusable. Research shows standard Beat Buddy could MIDI sync with Ditto X4 (pretty much) but I would lose more pedalboard real estate. Through research I found the Boss RC-10R with both looper and drum rhythm. Can be used in perfect sync or individually. I've had several Boss pedals over the years and their gear always delivers. Bought the Boss RC-10R. Within 5 minutes of setting up with my rig I was having a blast! Drums sound great. Plenty of options. Sync recording loops with patterns was simple. Creating second drum and loop patterns super easy. At some point I should probably open the manual?Very happy!!! Now I can create two completely separate loops with their own rhythm and constantly be sync'd. And the Boss RC-10R is half the size of my Ditto X4. So my goal of a super portable and light pedalboard is met. And when I travel for work, the Boss RC-10R, Line 6 HX Stomp, Boss Katana Mini amp and my Traveler Ultra-Light guitar all fit in my suitcase and weighs around 12lbs. I have a great jam rig with me around the country and international.
me = 30+ years making music and 10+ years using hardware and software loopersthis thing is fabulous! the ability to split output signal to guitar cab / full range for optimal sound quality is huge! I am running the loop channel of the RC-10R in the effect loop of my guitar amp and the rhythm channel out to a KC-600 keyboard amp. sounds good to me.nice layout, solid feel to the knobs, and the standard built-like-a-tank boss pedal construction.easy to navigate the relatively simple menu system plus easy to operate the pedal once you've spent a little time with it.the rhythm tracks sound good and perform as advertised. I dialed up a funky boogaloo rhythm, recorded a rhythm part loop, then lost myself in a lydian improv for about a half hour when I first got down with it. works for me!a review of the midi implementation shows that it will play well with my other midi gear or computer rig if I decide I want to go there with it.the ability to import my own loops will quickly have me jamming to tracks that are truly of my own taste and the included rhythm tracks are what they are expected to be: a simple and solid representation of many musical genres.I do have a wish-list item that could possibly be addressed in a software update: it would be nice to be able to choose whether sync'ed loop recording begins immediately after the count-in (this is how it behaves now) or waits for a pedal touch punch-in to begin recording the quantized loop (this would be nice).all-in-all I am very happy with this looper and am impressed by what roland and boss have been putting out recently. to me they've always been a company that really understands what musicians want and what I've seen lately across their product lines is really, really impressive. my compliments to all the good people at roland/boss that are making these cool products happen for us.
I had a BeatBuddy as a drum machine and HXStomp is used as amp modeller and looper. In this configuration I struggled to sync them when recording a loop. The RC10R solves this problem in sync mode. There is a large range of drum bears to choose from as well as the ability to create your own beats which I haven’t tried yet. I deducted a star because the drum performances are not as varied, dynamic and articulate as the BeatBuddy but I’m happy with the compromise to aid in songwriting. I have a midi controller and aim to program it to control the loop functions but I’m struggling because there isn’t a decent video showing how to do this on the RC10R. Boss are not very good at producing tutorial videos.
