We just bought this toaster as a replacement for our last one, the exact same model, whose outside coils stopped working. It's the third time we've purchased one. The first lasted almost 20 years. The second lasted less than four. I'm hoping that was an anomaly and this one is better quality. It certainly looks great and I love the "a bit more" button. Do read the instructions and run it empty at full heat once before attempting to toast anything. It doesn't heat evenly until you do that. (Ask me how I know.)

We loved this toaster for 6 years, until it stopped working and started tripping the GFCI outlets in my kitchen. It's a premium toaster built like a tank with great features. We really wanted to buy another one for those reasons but chose not to because we won't spend that type of money for a product that won't last. I always try to repair my appliances rather than throw them away. I'm willing to pay for a quality product and while this Breville toaster seemed to be one, it ceased to be when it broke so soon. After reading other reviews, I see a lot of problems with this toaster and the broken electronics after such a short time.

This is an awesome toaster, a Christmas present in December 2021. We also bought a Breville microwave oven. The toaster worked well and we were very happy with our purchase. In December 2022 the toaster stopped working. The bread was toasted but would not pop up. Every light on the unit was flashing on and off in unison. We unplugged the unit and waited a while before plugging it back in, hoping for a reset. This worked for a while (minutes) before all functions froze and lights started flashing again. Repeated several times with identical results. The manual offered no advice on resetting or re-booting. The toaster came with a one year warranty. It was unclear to us when the warranty stared, day of order, day of shipping, day of receipt, other? Whatever, we were ... MoreThis is an awesome toaster, a Christmas present in December 2021. Whatever, we were right up against the warranty expiration date.We contacted Breville and customer service was extremely helpful and professional. They sent a replacement toaster and a few days later we returned the non-working unit.In summary this is our experience:Our premium and well-liked toaster malfunctioned during the warranty period. Our experience with a Breville warranty claim was excellent. We now have a new identical toaster and are very happy with it. We were fortunate that our unit malfunctioned a few days before the expiration of the warranty period. We dodged a bullet. If I thought the unit would malfunction in the 10 to 14 month period I would not have bought it. And this is the reason I would not recommend that others purchase this product.

The lift mechanism is very cool, motor-driven, robotic-like. But, alas, the basic toaster functions are terrible. We bought this to handle sliced ciabatta roles and bagels with its wide slots. Unfortunately, it seems to randomly only toast one side. What's equally irksome is the way the mechanism for the gripping and retracting "holders" works, which also seems motor-driven and very smooth. Unfortunately, the bottom of the chamber repeatedly catches anything with features on it, like a frozen waffle with a ridge, and it gets caught on one side while the upper sliding holders pull it (correctly) to the middle. The result is that it gets a baked-in "kink" or fold-over feature at the bottom of the waffle or other item. This happens regularly, and I have never seen this ... MoreThe lift mechanism is very cool, motor-driven, robotic-like. But, alas, the basic toaster functions are terrible. So again, cool use of technology, but serious failure on the basic engineering of what a toaster is supposed to do.
Bought this when our little Kitchen Aid finally wore out after many years. We liked the look and all the features of the Breville. And thought we could expect excellence and many years out of this one because it's supposed to be a high end brand and Williams Sonoma sells it, so it should be great! But, no. We had the toaster for just a couple weeks over 1 year. (Of course, the warranty was for 1 year!) One day, the outer coils just stopped working! We now have to use the Bagel mode and put the toast through once and the turn it around and put it through again. No, thank you. So disappointed. Won't buy Breville again and won't bother buying a toaster at WS, either.
I was thrilled when I get my first Breville die-cast toaster - just the "feel" of quality was immediately evident. Using it out of the box was also fantastic, with the progress indicator and soft lift system - I was hooked. We only make toast 1 or 2 times a week, so this would be our toaster for our empty nest retirement days.I was wrong. After less than two years of light use, regular toasting would only toast only one side. I wasn't immediately aware of this since my wife handled breakfast, but I couldn't believe the "ritual" that was involved, with the lift-and-flip midway through a toast making routine. Seriously? After paying $200+ for a premium toaster, this was necessary after 100 cycles?Looking around for a replacement I fell (again) for another of the ... MoreI was thrilled when I get my first Breville die-cast toaster - just the "feel" of quality was immediately evident. It couldn't possibly happen again, could it?Yes, again.Three years of toast, requiring two toasters. No, actually needing three. That is, unless you want to stand at the counter and perform the lift-and-flip maneuver. My house is full of Breville products, none of which I've been able to have a hiccup with except this disaster of a product. If only it worked as well as it looks, it would be the best of our household collection. If I'd bought the toaster first, I wouldn't have bought any other of the Breville line.Seriously... what the heck is going on with this product? Toasters have been made for over a hundred years, and this is the single Breville item that doesn't work?
After several months of perfect toast, I believe this is the best toaster you can buy. As with any new toaster, you will need to determine which settings work best for your taste, bread types and frozen items...since each toaster model heats a little differently. This toaster is well engineered and built. It is very easy to remove, clean and replace the bread crumb catcher. The plug with the hole is genius, and easy to use when you have arthritis in your hands. The cord is easy to secure in the bottom for storage. All of the heat settings work as advertised. The "A Bit More" is an amazing addition which no other toaster (I am aware of) has as a feature. In my opinion, this is the Rolls Royce of home kitchen toasters, and I highly recommend this Breville product.
We will not buy any other product. We have had Breville products over 8 years and have had NO issue with them. We care for them and never abuse them, and these appliances are world class in design and in construction. We have yet to replace any of them, they just keep going, and going, and going! We have made thousands of slices of toast through the years and Breville just continues to work and produce toasted favourites again and again and again!Thank you Breville for a extremely amazing toaster from its heavy duty construction, to its outstanding out up of toasted products.
It's probably one of the better toasters available and it STILL isn't acceptable. I think the variability in reviews may be a function of the manufacturers poor quality control. If all elements aren't even, then the toast will be uneven- as was mine. For the cost, the gamble isn't worth the risk. Seems well built but besides above complaint, the tone that signals the toast is done is barely audible (yeah, I'm old but my wife and son could barely hear it either.) Finally, there seems to be an issue with it's longevity- again, for a premium product I'd expect the longevity of a vintage toaster! To be honest, I might try to find another of this model and hope it's better-because features and perceived quality, on the other hand I might just save the cash, limp along ... MoreIt's probably one of the better toasters available and it STILL isn't acceptable. Someday, I'll find the holy grail toaster...but clearly not today. Were this toaster half the price (or less) I might give it more stars- my expectations based on price were not met.
This was an absolutely wonderful toaster for two years. It toasted to perfection and I thought the "a bit more" feature was priceless. It was only used a couple of times per month, but just prior to the two year mark, the heating elements malfunctioned which resulted in bread being toasted on only one side. Only a few remain operational, so I imagine we are at the end of the road. I certainly didn't expect a $160 toaster to last only two years, especially since I'm not using it to serve toast at Mel's Diner. Naturally, there is only a one year warranty, which is disheartening. Sadly, it's time to purchase a new toaster, but I think I'll be back at the big box store acquiring the old school, $19.99 special in lieu of dropping nearly two C notes at Crate and Barrel.
