I particularly did not want a fully automated machine or a pod-based machine (heaven forbid!). I wanted the freedom to either let the machine do its job with a single button push, OR to do a fully manual brew and adjust anything I wanted. I also wanted a machine with a portafilter, meaning I choose the beans and I control the grind. The Dual Boiler fit the bill perfectly.I especially like the updates with the latest version of the Dual Boiler, most specifically with (what I assume is) a proper feedback control system for the pump now. In the original model, the pump was unmodulated and was either "on" or "off". If your grind was too fine, the pump wouldn't slow down, but instead the pump would stay on at full blast and an overpressure valve would open up at 12 bar shooting water into the undertray. Likewise if your grind was too coarse you'd end up under proper pressure for the entire brew. With the new machine, I can see the pressure being modulated during the brew - the machine is trying to maintain pressure in the correct band. It'll slow down or speed up the pump a little as needed to stay in the sweet spot on the brew pressure. That detail aside, the Dual Boiler has been a sleek and solid daily performer for nearly ten years now. Once you get "dialed in" it is extremely consistent day in and day out. It looks great in the kitchen. And, in perhaps the ultimate compliment to the Breville, friends who have tried its espresso or latte all can't wait to visit again... JUST FOR THE COFFEE!! Not for me, apparently. LOL!!!

Everything I need in an espresso machine, and more!

This machine was an upgrade for me. I’d been using the Duo Temp, which is a great machine, but I finally needed more. After salivating over this machine for over a year, I pulled the plug and ordered my shiny new Breville Dual Boiler.I’ll start by saying, I’m not a fan of machines with the bean grinder built in, I want more control over the grind, and like having a separate machine for that specific action. I also love the option to explore any grinder I choose to use with my wonderful Dual Boiler machine. At this point, I’m using the Breville Smart Grinder Pro, I love the results thus far.The Dual Boiler is everything I could have asked for in a wish list, it does it all. At this point, I’m using the Breville Smart Grinder Pro, I love the results thus far.The Dual Boiler is everything I could have asked for in a wish list, it does it all. This machine was very well thought out. Naturally, the first big win is a dual boiler, giving me the ability to froth milk while making my espresso shots. While this may seem simple, it saves a lot of time. I oftentimes find myself making 4-5 drinks for my daughter’s friends. With the ability to steam milk and make shots at the same time, I’m serving drinks as fast as any barista could. Also, I love that my milk steaming is now controlled with the wand on the right side of the machine, it feels very nice, and yields great results. The milk steams twice as fast as my old machine, its amazing! This is also major, since its speeds up the process when making multiple drinks. I love that I can add water from the front of the machine, I also love the hot water dispenser, my old machine had this, but the water came from the milk steam wand, and it was not as fast or effective. The Dual Boiler has a hot water dial on the left side of the machine, and it works great and fast. The water dispenser is also larger, so you need not add water as often. Speaking or larger, I must mention the drip tray is much larger than what I’m used to, so you don’t need to dump water after every couple drinks. This also works well when flush my filters since I have more room in the drop tray. There a preset button for one or two shots, but you can use the manual feature which is what I use. I have not yet gotten into the advanced settings since I’ve had the machine for only a couple weeks, but I can honestly say this is the most fun I’ve ever had with coffee. I am creating incredible tasting beverages with ease in my home with this machine. I believe that to produce great results, you must have great tools, this machine is everything I could wish for. Bravo Breville.

Great Coffee, Every TIme.

I am very pleased with the purchase. But I'm still a coffee snob!

Great Machine - seals appear to be an issue
3 April 2023

I love this machine for the number of features, the price, and the form function. There are many things that make it near perfect - the pressure and temperature gauge, the wheel in the undercarriage that allows it to be easily moved, the double boiler and pre-infusion of the portafilter, the front access to the water dispenser, the front water gauge, the ease of cleaning, the cleaning reminders, and most of all the quality of the shots. And yet, this is the third machine I've gone through because the interior seals appear to fail pretty regularly. Usually within a year of purchase, the water dispenser and steamer start to drip pretty regularly and condensation begins to bead in the both the LED temperature and pressure gauges. First, I am very happy with the quality of espresso and the level of control this machine offers me. I upgraded from my 5 year old Breville Barista Express (lovely machine which is outstanding in its price segment). I absolutely love the Dual Boiler (even though our household only drinks black coffee, so steaming is used for guests only and very occasionally).
