8 years later, still going strong!

After over 8 years of daily service, my Tea Maker is still going strong! I do not understand the reviews saying that the glass is fragile. It's glass, treat it as such. The kettle has moved house several times and been to France and Spain. I look after it, I keep it clean inside, I only use filtered water in it and I wipe down the outside and base infrequently! Once in a blue moon I use the Sage cleaner or ACV. I love it. If only Sage would be so kind as to send me a transfer sticker of the Hot Water - Cancel button as it has almost worn away and is offending my OCD!

I can't believe that this doesn't have 100% five star ratings. My favourite kitchen appliance which I use a number of times every day. You can brew a perfect cup every time and even set it to brew at a pre-set time (e.g. first thing in the morning). I've always loved fresh brewed black tea and sad to say I had lapsed to using tea bags through idleness. Now I have a proper pot of tea with the best quality tea of my choice. It has the same characteristics that I love of my othe Sage appliances. Over designed (you can select 6 different tea types with three different strenghs) or as I always do use the custom facility to set your temp and time, and beautifully made.I've had mine for 2 years now and it is as good as the time I first used it. I bought this to replace a very old one which had developed a fault after many years of happy use, but wasn't repairable. It is the most versatile tea maker around (I did a search for others before purchasing a like-for-like replacement). It brews perfectly with the custom function, but has pre-selected options for a standard brew if preferred. The timer setting is also useful to have that brew just right for when you get up in the morning. It will also brew speciality teas (which require different water temperatures); I have never had problems with this function although I rarely use it. I would have given it 5 stars but for the auto-basket mode. Whenever I switch on at the socket or other functions, it does a 'test' basket cycle which is annoying and unnecessary. ... MoreI bought this to replace a very old one which had developed a fault after many years of happy use, but wasn't repairable. But this is a new feature (from my old model) and is annoying.

Excelent system
20 February 2024

My second purchase. The first unit lasted me 6+ years, and I boil water ALL day long at my desk. It cycles hot water no less than 15x a day, five days a week. Being on my desk, the "look" of the unit was as important as the function. After six years, I was getting evidence of wear on the bottom of the heating plate, so I purchased another and still use the first machine at home. This is an excellent heating unit for boiling water; I have only used the tea feature a handful of times.

Great little tea maker

I love being able to just fill it up and let the machine do the rest. Makes consistently nice tea; better than the boil-and-soak method. Have used the delay feature as well; a bit fiddly to set up but works well once you get the hang of it. Just make sure the am/pm settings are correct. (the story behind that one is probably pretty obvious!)The one con is that the jug seems to have a tendency to develop leaks - I have had 2 jugs with this problem. It can't be ordered as a part and repairs cannot be done locally; things have to be sent to Breville to repair. It would have been so much more efficient, less wasteful, and better for the environment if it could have been repaired locally (or just replaced the just instead of the whole thing) - the problem was most ... MoreI love being able to just fill it up and let the machine do the rest. Just stopped working...FRUSTRATED!
9 August 2022

Again, Breville, I am disappointed! THIS WAS A WEDDING GIFT as I trusted the name Breville. When received as a wedding gift in 2020, it was perfect. We really began using it closer to the end of 2020 and the beginning of 2021. Well, as of this date in 2022, it has COMPLETELY stopped working. It just freezes with the message of 212 brew temp and 4:00 brew time, never changing and never engaging. This message stays no matter how long you leave the machine unplugged, turned over to dry out moisture. I contacted customer service who told me to unplug it, change where it's plugged in, push a series of buttons, check that the glass is positioned, and a few other troubleshooting tips. However, I am left with a non-working expensive tea maker. What am I to do at this point? ... MoreAgain, Breville, I am disappointed! THIS WAS A WEDDING GIFT as I trusted the name Breville. I contacted customer service again to be told I would have to either repurchase a new one (mind you, this was a wedding gift) with a small discount of (shhh). It didn't make sense to me. This is your product that you are supposed to stand by. It's a Breville, for Pete's sake! Again, I am so disappointed. Very! I want to believe in the brand but my viewpoint is a bit jaded now.

My favorite appliance EVER, just died.
8 April 2024

Very disappointed......While I love this appliance and would give it 5 stars, I am extremely disappointed that it "conveniently" stopped heating water after a year and a half, and just outside of warranty coverage. I was told by Breville customer care that they would happily pay for shipping to be repaired, but I would have to pay for any potential repairs. I was then given a 2nd option of buying a new unit at a 40% discount from the eye opening price of $300. No thanks to either. FOR SALE: One gently used and very well cared for BTM800XL Breville Tea Maker that does not heat water. Can be used as a beautiful flower pot or loose change keeper. No reasonable offer refused."

Plastic carafe absorbs flavors
24 January 2022

This is a great product with one ridiculous flaw: The carafe is plastic and absorbs flavors and odors. This is a luxury item, not a necessity. At this price point, it should have a glass carafe. One of the first teas I made was heavily spiced. I tried running it several times. Letting a baking soda solution sit in the carafe for a while. Everything I could think of. The flavor and smell of the spices still took about a week to dissipate. I brew a different tea every day, and I don't want those flavors to flight with the remnants of the previous day's tea.Otherwise, it's great. I bought it as a self-care splurge because I found it very difficult to make a cup of tea while caring for a newborn. (Yes, I know that's ridiculous. It turns out there are a lot of ways to mess up tea.) I love that I can set it to be ready when I wake up--no watching a kettle to stop it at the right temperature and remembering to a. add tea (again, I know, sleep deprivation is a powerful thing), b. remove tea, and c. drink while hot. I bought a travel mug that I can open with one hand and voila--baby and I can both enjoy a morning pick-me-up while she nurses!

I have had the Tea Maker for approximately two months now. Decided to stop the Starbucks coffee runs and brew my own tea. Since I am a newbie tea drinker, I thought I would try this product and was pleasantly surprised by its versatility and convenience. Also fun to watch the basket go up and down automatically. Although to be honest, not sure it makes that much of a difference with the "basket" selection button. Either that or I am not that discriminating being a tea-drinking novice. Now I brew 4 to 6 cups a day and am becoming a loose tea snob, ordering online different blends. Fantastic product that does get a little stained with my now frequent use. Regardless, it is very easy to follow the cleaning instructions which are done with very little effort and no scrubbing.

love loved … until it stopped working

I got this tea maker two years ago as a gift. Brewed perfectly each and every time. I adored this product … and then the basket stopped lowering. I cleaned the product regularly and took good care of it … I guess it just has a short life span. It’s too expensive a product to stomach either throwing out or replacing and now functions solely as a glorified hot water heater.
