It makes great espresso and the built in grinder is a great feature and very convenient with an added built in tamping system. It does take a few attempts at selecting the correct grind setting and puck dose, but the suggested setting, give or take a few turns one way or another, is generally spot on. One pull of the tamping handle and if the machine determines there isn’t enough grinds, it will signal you to add more, ie prompt you to grind again. I love this feature as it takes a lot of the guess work out of the equation. Again, it takes a few attempts. I am still playing with the grind and tamped grinds to reach the “espresso” setting. Still not seeing the pressure gage reach the “espresso” setting either. On another note, I have noticed a lot of water in the drip tray (more than I feel should be based on videos). The water is clean so it isn’t from the coffee filter dripping. I have to contact support still to find out why and will update this review at that time.Review continuation,After having the Breville Barista Express Impress for a few months now, I’m very comfortable and find it even easier to use than when I first purchased it. It’s quick to grind and the automatic tamping is fantastic. I am still fiddling with the espresso pressure but it’s just a matter of trial and error. So far I have not made a bad tasting coffee at all! I find the steamer wand takes a little longer to heat up than previous milk frother steam wands, but it’s a matter of maybe 20-30 seconds vs 10-15 seconds. I wish the water reservoir was larger/held more water as I find I only get about 5-6 cups of espresso and then have to refill the tank. After watching some instructional videos, I also run a single cup through with no coffee to keep the machine clean so the overflow water tray also fills up quickly. Otherwise, I love this machine.

Also, it was hard to get the grinds to be the correct grind size so the coffee would frequently come out too bitter or too watery, hard to get it just right. With a press of a button, it automatically grinds the beans and fills the portafilter with the correct amount of coffee. Next by pressing down on the lever, you can then easily tamp the coffee with the correct pressure (with a light indicator showing you if it's enough coffee...things couldn't get any easier! If there were not enough ground coffee, you just have to press the "dose" button one more time and it automatically fills the portafilter correctly and remembers the dosage for next time. I do have a couple minor complaints. The footprint of the appliance is quite big, so it takes up a lot of precious kitchen counter space. Also, because the appliance is quite heavy, I wish the water refilling tank would be on the side of the machine, therefore making it easier to refill the tank. But because it's in the back, it makes things a bit more challenging, but these are just minor complaints. Overall, the machine feels premium, good quality materials, making the appliance feel very high end. Because it's so simple to use, it's definitely two thumbs up!

Still working out the kinks of the machine as I’ve only had it a week and am loving every bit of it.It’s is very up to date with the latest commercial technology such as the built in tamper and automatic tamping for the Oracle, I love this cause it makes zero mess is easy to use (even for beginners). The colour is a major plus and this machine is also extremely quiet compared to my previous model the Barista Pro.This machine still lets me put my creative manual coffee skills to work without the machine doing everything.Highly recommended, takes a bit longer to heat up that the Barista Pro, but only by about 30 seconds. Worth the money if you ask me, or even the Oracle if you’re new to the coffee world and a little nervous to try something like this, however the Barista Express Impress is great to practice and apply your skills at home if your a new Barista or in Training.

There is coffee at work, and I often do enjoy a cup with sugar and cream in the morning. However, this espresso machine makes espresso that are always a delight. The coffee grinder only needs 1 button to operate, and sensors in the tamping lever ensures that there is always the correct amount of grounds in the portafilter, leaving out any guesswork. There is the option to manually set the amount of grounds too, for those who are more savvy with their coffee. The easy to use steam wand makes milk significantly better than cream. Once I got the grind level correct, the machine makes consistently good espresso that I enjoy every morning. It is faster than going to a local coffee shop and makes better espresso! I would prefer for it to come with the mini waste basket.

The BEST espresso machine I have ever owned!

LOVE THIS MACHINE! I have been using the older model (Barista Express) for years. It is fantastic. The Barista Express Impress upgrades several features that make it worth the buy. First off, this machine produces delicious espresso in a sleek and compact design, perfect for the homeowner. I know they are an investment but I think they are actually a good value compared to many options on the market when compared to the quality of the espresso you will enjoy. The hopper will store your coffee beans, grind and dose them into the portafilter with the touch of a button WITHOUT ANY SPILLING (a massive upgrade from the Barista Express). The hopper will store your coffee beans, grind and dose them into the portafilter with the touch of a button WITHOUT ANY SPILLING (a massive upgrade from the Barista Express). This feature cannot be emphasized enough. The lever cleanly tamps your grind and there is a sensor that lets you know if you have the right dosage once tamped. Then, the machine will auto adjust the next dose in the event that you do not get the proper extraction. You have the ability to change the grind and dose manually. I find that, depending on the bean you are using, you sometimes need to tweak the grind or the amount in order to get the correct extraction. This is normal and to be expected. Not all coffee beans are the same and they do behave differently. The hot water dispenses quieter than before (awesome!) and the steam wand for making your milk silky smooth for lattes is incredible. My wife and I drink Americanos every day. We do lattes generally in the afternoon. For Americano, the amount of water you need is measured so when you select the hot water, you don't need to measure the water amount. The taste is always full bodied, rich, and smooth. The flavor is something auto-drip and pour over just cannot mimic. SOOO GOOD! Breville makes outstanding products that are thoughtfully designed. I'm a huge fan the Barista Express Impress. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

My kitchen looked like a high class cafe after being renovated, but there was one problem - the old coffee machine was just not delivering cafe quality coffee. Time for an upgrade!I wanted a machine that would look impressive sitting on my timber bench, surrounded by tendrils of greenery and rustic hand made coffee cups.I loved the look of The Breville Barista Express Impress, with its colour scheme of back and silver stainless. Tick ✅But it was no good just looking impressive - the machine also had to deliver the goods - an impressive coffee. After following the instructions carefully (love the addition of the tampering lever- this is what actually sold me on this machine) I watched with excitement, as the rich, glossy, liquid gold fell into my cup. Tick ✅ I added perfectly silky milk (easily made with the powerful steamer), and inhaled the delicious aroma of freshly made coffee. Tick ✅ All that remained was the ultimate test - the taste. Would the Barista Express Impress, impress? With mounting excitement, I brought the coffee cup to my lips and tasted my coffee. Sheer Bliss!! Impressive!! Tick ✅The Breville Barista Express Impress delivered the goods! Cafe quality coffee in my own kitchen cafe!! ✅ ✅ ✅ ✅ ✅

Love the machine. The image Breville provides in my review is different from what I have. A few notes on the Barista Express... you will definitely want to purchase a molded funnel for the portafilter. The machine has a design flaw where a lot of grounds bounce out of or miss the portafilter. I also recommend a distributer so you can make a level tamp in the portafilter. The included tampener can be pushed down unevenly and cause one side of the grounds to lower than the other side. Every set of beans is different. You will need to recalibrate your machine for every new bag, especially from different roasters. Expect to blow through a pound of coffee when you first get your machine. I think a lot of the settings are totally unnecessary. There's a coarseness setting ... MoreLove the machine. The image Breville provides in my review is different from what I have. You will need to recalibrate your machine for every new bag, especially from different roasters. Expect to blow through a pound of coffee when you first get your machine. I think a lot of the settings are totally unnecessary. There's a coarseness setting from 1 (fine) to 10 (coarse). You literally cannot use it above 3 in my opinion. It's too coarse to get the required pressure. Same for the ground volume knob... the portafilter can only hold so much grounds. I've never had the dial past 3pm. I would recommend descaling monthly. My machine starting making an awful buzzing sound after pulling some shots. I thought it was toast, but I ran three descaling cycles and two cleaning cycles and it was gone... and this was after following the machine's maintenace schedule to a t. Overall, I love it, but it's definitely not an "espress out of the box ready". Also... if you buy a Breville with the built in grinder, it is very difficult to put back in. You have to make sure all the beans are ground, then use a brush to push all the debris in the funnel down further so the grinder top can sit flush.

It took me a few tries to figure out the proper grind number for my coffee.I believe the Barista Express Impress is a great upgrade from pod-based machines.I have more control over the freshness, quality, and ease of brewing a barista-quality coffee at home.Grind dosage monitors and assisted tamping help you get it right every time.I would strongly recommend it to anyone looking to improve their coffee game and enjoy quality coffee beverages in the comfort of their own home.
