I love drinking matcha. The water temperature has to be between 160-180 F, not boiling water. This Breville Kettle has 5 temperature setting for different types of tea and coffee, you can heat up water from 175 F for green tea, oolong, French press, black herbal to 212 F for boil water. There’s an option to keep water warm, and a button on top of the handle to open the kettle. The kettle is made with brushed stainless steel, very easy to clean. You can wrap the cord under the base to stow away when not in use. The signature design for Breville appliances is that they have a hole in the plug making them easier to pull out.

I've been using my Variable-Temperature Kettle (daily) for exactly 30 days. I love it. It is fabulous. However, it's only been 30 days. I cannot review the longevity of this item. When it comes to appliances, large or small, longevity is key. I am treating this item carefully and doing all of the recommended care. I hope it's still great after a year, three years and five years. So with only 30 days of use, I give it 3 stars. Time will tell.

Good strong kettle and nice company to deal with.

We have had this kettle for 7 years now. The first time the coil on the base broke. It was still within warranty, less than 2 years old and was replaced. More recently the plastic dome on the lid came away, which was not until another 6 years later and so was not within warranty. This seems a common problem as I noticed other people complaining of the same thing on the Sage website, so I contacted Sage in regards to this. They were very obliging and offered a new machine with 25% discount and recommended Kapon adhesive tape for lid as it is good for high temperatures. Other than that, it is a good dependable kettle, and the 1.7 ltr size a deciding factor and looks good. The plug is a nice touch also. I don't really use the temperatures much but do occasionally for teas.

Great - until it stops working
11 January 2024

We have purchased two of these from new now… They are great kettles but expensive. With both of the kettles we have owned, they get to a point where contact between the base and the kettle no longer works… We’ve tried cleaning it but still nothing… And then today for no apparent reason the kettle has started to boil and boil and boil no matter what temperature you have set the water to and, worryingly, even if you placed the empty kettle down on the base having finished using it.No buttons are pressed and yet it still starts boiling away. A real safety hazard. As much as I love these kettles I can’t justify another hundred pounds, especially given the problems.

Great kettle - shame about the lid!
30 January 2023

I bought the latest model Sage smart kettle to replace an earlier model because the plastic soft close lid had failed after 8 years. I was so happy with the kettle that I approached Sage to try to buy a spare lid - however the lid was not available as a spare - and Sage offered me a decent discount on the current model so I bought it. It’s a great kettle - just as many features as the earlier model - and exactly the same soft close lid! So - with an eye to having a spare kettle - always handy - I asked Sage if they could supply that lid as a spare so I could repair my old kettle! The quick answer from the customer service rep was that it’s not available! Such a shame as the plastic does harden and crack over time (8 years in my case!). Not the quality brand it used to be

Very disappointed in Breville, the product quality has gone downhill considerably over the years in this era of products that are manufactured to fail instead of built to last.My spouse and I each had this kettle before we moved in together. Of course, the issues began after they were both out of warranty.Hers, the base stopped automatically shutting off once the water reached the selected temperature. We stopped using it as it became a safety hazard. The lid on her kettle also cracked as a result of being heated too long. His, the inside of it gradually got a rusted coloured interior. Our second purchase
27 December 2022

We first saw these in New Zealand under the Breville branding. They work well although our previous one stopped working after 6 years. We could not find a replacement element anywhere on line, which forced us to buy a new one kettle.Interestingly it was the same price as six years ago so the supplies must have been making a lot of profit then.It is now a lower power than my first one which was 3000w, this one is only 2400 Watts which means that it is slower than before. It takes the same amount of energy to boils 1 litre of water using 3kW as it does 2.4kW , perhaps it is cheaper for the manufacturer. The multi temperature function is the advantage of this kettle over others, also we think it looks better that other multi temperature makes. We also ordered a ... MoreWe first saw these in New Zealand under the Breville branding. They did send me a replacement , I do think that is poor quality control.

Simply Brilliant!
15 March 2024

This appliance has exceeded all my expectations; it’s well-thought in both function and design. It brings 7+ cups of water to a rolling boil in about 7 minutes. Less water and lower temperatures are achieved in a matter of moments. Thoughtful design touches include dual water windows that allow easy viewing for both righties and lefties, a removable scale filter for easy cleaning, and a cordless pitcher for safety. My favorite design feature is the “Assist Plug,” which allows those with arthritic hands and/or reduced grip strength to easily and painlessly remove the plug from a wall outlet. (I wish ALL my appliances had this feature.) To top it all off, it’s a sleek and beautiful appliance!

Smart looking kettle but extremely noisy.
23 December 2023

I bought this kettle because of its great no nonsense design and sturdy build. It feels solid, the lid mechanism works smoothly and the functionality is good. It was quite an expensive kettle but did not mind paying that because of its design. There is however a downside. It is incredibly noisy. I thought maybe it was a fault, so contacted customer service for their opinion. It was heard via the phone and there was an agreement that it was indeed very noisy. A replacement was sent and my original kettle was returned. Is there any difference? Not really. Such a shame. This matter does need addressing by the designers and manufacturers as this does let the item down.

Very Finicky
12 November 2023

This thing was barely used. I moved into a city apartment with less than robust ampage and using an electric kettle sometimes meant a trip to the basement to reset the breaker. So it sat on a metro cart for a long time, several years. I just moved into new place with modern electical amps and can now microwave a cup of coffee and blowdry at the very same time! However, now that I'm using this kettle again, which I was looking forward too, it is wonky. Sometimes it works and other times it beeps, shuts off, goes haywire. I have to unplug it, take the pot off the base and then plug it in and then set the kettle on it. It isn't a huge deal but it is a pain in the keester. I love the different temps, but I might switch to a regular kettle and use a thermometer at this ... MoreThis thing was barely used.
