The Milk Café's quick-ish milk heating and foaming while preparing the espresso machine and shots. Clean up is simple and requires little work before enjoying a fresh latte. My only reservation are the inability to make microfoam. I have tried numerous variations to make microfoam and only found one fairly reliable method. Starting with eggnog up to the minimum line and topping with skim milk in order for a consistancy for coffee art. Unfortunately, eggnog is seasonally available and now I am trying more methods. Has anyone figured out my dilemma?

Bought my first of these 2 years ago, envisioning epic lattes. Tried all different types of plant-based milk, including those with high fat content, since that's usually a determining factor in frothability. Each attempt resulted in hot, flat milk with a few light bubbles. Tried varying the temperature of both the milk and the steel jug. No better.Returned that unit to Breville, who sent me a replacement. Again, I've tried everything, read blog posts, changed temperatures, bought high fat content milk...Same experience.I've used a variety of milk frothers, and I'm bewildered at how this expensive unit can't produce a decent foam like much cheaper products can. This thing is a PERFECT 10...man, where do I begin? Let's start with when it arrived. I quickly unpacked the Milk Cafe all uneventful like and had to take it for a test 'spin.' While I don't drink coffee anymore I am VERY particular about my matcha latte every morning. I added my organic whole milk, a splash of coconut milk, set the temp half way between 160 & Hot, then hit the start button. This thing whirled to life in such a hushed tone my eyes widened. I let the machine do its thing for about thirty seconds before adding my 1oz scoop of matcha little by little. It was so pleasing to watch the streaks of green matcha wrap around and around. I put the lid on the top and walked away (to deal with my two amazing yet screaming kids). When I returned the machine had ... MoreThis thing is a PERFECT 10...man, where do I begin? The pleasure of the machine is actually pouring the completed drink into my cup and let me tell you, this Milk Cafe has the perfect lip on the front for an amazing pour.My kids want me to use it for hot chocolate and while I'm sure I'll get years of great use out of it, I would be devastated if it broke. I might actually buy a second one and just keep it in the garage for that fateful day.If you need to heat up milk for any reason and don't buy Breville's Milk Cafe you really should question your own life decisions. I'll be judging all my friends now if I EVER hear they used anything else. :)

I received this as a Mother’s Day gift at least 5 years ago. Sadly, about a month an ago it just stopped spinning. After a few days I realized just how much I loved this and how convenient it is. Standing over the stove to heat the milk and stirring to avoid it burning and taking much longer to do, quickly reminded me this has become our most used appliance in the house and one I really wanted back.I thought, maybe I will reach out to see what Breville has to say before ordering a new one. Michelle at Breville helped me try and troubleshoot the issue. I borrowed a friends disc (brand new unit recommended by me and convinced after trying it out) and unfortunately it didn’t work. Michelle at Breville helped me try and troubleshoot the issue. I borrowed a friends disc (brand new unit recommended by me and convinced after trying it out) and unfortunately it didn’t work. Michelle then offered me a the option of having it repaired by one of their technicians and or a massive discount on a brand new unit! It worked out to be less than $35 for a new one over getting it repaired so I opted for that choice and it arrived a week later. This is more than I ever expected after owning for as long as I have. Michelle was helpful and replied to my emails promptly. I am so excited to have my milk cafe back. Its incredibly wonderful to be able to put my chai latte in and walk away to do other things as come back to a perfectly mixed, frothy and hot chai ready to pour into my cup, give the container a quick wash and head to work! It’s such a time saver in the mornings. My kids use it very often to make hot chocolate and apple cider. They know exactly what temperature they like their drinks at and their parents lol.
Love this machine, I did my research before I purchased. Was originally going with the cheaper one, after reading some reviews I decided to go with this one & pay a bit extra. So glad I did!I se it everyday to make a hot choc with frothy milk & baby chino’s.It’s easy to use & easy to clean. The temperature setting is super handy, as to it make the milk too it for a baby chino & the cacao that I use suggests an exact temp. So I can set it exactly to that.Very happy with this purchase. My only slight negative from an aesthetic perspective is that the base appears to look a little pinkish in colour, compared to the jug. not sure if it’s all of them or just mine.
I bought my milk café 18 months ago.I did a good deal of research on electric milk frothers before purchasing it.One of its selling points to me was the stainless steel jug (versus one that’s plastic or lined with a non-stick material).I have used my frother once a day and have taken good care of the machine from day one.Three days ago the milk café stopped frothing and produced lukewarm milk.I tested it 3 more times to make sure that it wasn’t a one-off glitch and it’s still not frothing and the milk is only lukewarm on my usual setting.I have read some of the 1-star reviews on this site and noticed similar problems.Today I called Breville’s customer service. Reliable use for 2 years so far with no problems. I like this for the temperature control and that it is not lined with additives. It also is distinguished in its higher volume capacity. I don't own a dishwasher, but cleaning this is very simple and no fuss.I usually use 16 ounces or go to the max line, but have used minimum when I was low on milk. Usually use whole milk, Sometimes made hot cocoa, but usually am adding to coffee, tea/chai, or matcha.I do not like the amount of air in the "cappuccino" frother, so I use the other one. Sometimes I used to also use a French press for that thickening of pumping the milk through the sieve, but I need the Breville for precise temp control. I heat milk to make iit easier to digest and the heat sweetens it. (See James ... MoreReliable use for 2 years so far with no problems. (See James Hoffmann on his you tube for making milk drinks without an espresso machine where he discusses ideal temperature.)I guess this was my "pandemic splurge" as before I had been heating milk on stovetop and using a thermometer to avoid scalding, which required vigilance. The only issue I ever had was when I was at fault as I reread directions. Once, the base was not on a level surface, so that was the only time it did not heat. Once I did not press the disk in firmly. AND when I was at fault for not putting in a disk at all, it did begin to scald because it needs to keep the milk moving. Those 3 errors were not following directions, were rectified , and the thing has been working fine ever since.
I am one of those people who like a latte hot Hot HOT. I tried a bunch of Cappuccino/Latte milk frother -warmers and the coffee is at best, very warm. I returned them all. The Milk Cafe delivers milk to 160 Degrees F, which is the hottest I could find. It's fantastic. I'd prefer "no foam" if it was an option, but if you leave the magnetic whisk disk out, it tends to burn a little milk on the side of the container. The latte whisk disk makes the least amount of foam, so I just leave that in the jug. For foam lovers, you'll be stoked with the cappuccino whisk disk. I find that when making hot chocolate, it is best to pre-stir cocoa mix or powder with milk, because the powder can make the whisk. The powder tends to get into the disk mechanism and make a lot of noise. ... MoreI am one of those people who like a latte hot Hot HOT. I've made Chai Lattes, Soy Lattes, Almond Milk Lattes, and Oat Milk Lattes and they've all been great. I've been using my Milk Cafe for 18 months about three times a day, and it works just as good as the first day! Clean up is easy if you fill it with water right away after use. Pro-Tip - I never use the lid and it doesn't spray or make a mess at all. That also saves clean up time.
I really wanted to like this frother, but alas it was not meant to be. My first milk frother lasted a couple months of occasional use, then the discs started to pop off when starting the cycle. Breville sent me a new one, and I used it for the first time yesterday. Worked great. Went to use it again today and it's doing the same as the first, completely unusable. Extremely disappointed with the product, it couldn't last two uses. Reading through reviews, this is a seemingly common issue. It's a stylish design, which is now the only good thing I can say about it. If you're looking for a reliable frother, look elsewhere, for this one will only end in frustration and disappointment.
Mostly worked for the better part of a year, although it was definitely touchy about what kind of milk (different brands of 2% milk produced entirely different levels of froth), but generally I could count on a decent foamy cappuccino every morning, with the kind of thick foam you can use to produce coffee art as you pour in the froth. Then one day, it just stopped, and while it still heats the milk well, all I get are a few anemic bubbles that dissipate almost immediately.Nothing has changed about the machine itself or how cold my milk is. I've tried every troubleshooting tip in the guide book, and on the internet. So now I've got a non-functional machine, out of any warranty that there might have been. And I'm back to using the manual frother that I was using ... Highly disappointing and aggravating, especially because in general we have loved Breville products and I chose this based on that reputation.
