I’ve had this toastie machine for a couple of weeks and was in high hopes that it would deliver yummy crunchy hot ham and cheese toasties. Unfortunately they don’t make the toastie machines like they used too. It looks pretty but it takes a good 10 minutes to crisp up the bread to my liking that’s after taking approximately 5 min to heat up. To me, it feels like they’ve turned down the wattage/power and it just doesn’t have the oomph like the trusty predecessor. What a shame considering the price ☹️

After 7 years living abroad, I returned to living in Australia earlier this year. My daughter who was born overseas loves toasted sandwiches but she has never experienced the ones I grew up having. The 'Original 74' toastie machine was a staple of childhood and I am so pleased to that I have been able to reproduce the same magical experience for my young daughter. She loves the toasties that come out of this beautiful machine!!!

Extremely Happy with purchase. We were dur for another Jaffle maker as our old faithful Breville jaffle maker had done us well. This retro look Breville was what appealed to us and the quality like just like back in the day. Very robust and well made with sturdy hinges and a very thick non stick coating.Tried it for the first time and ended up with perfectly cooked jaffles. Very happy with our purchase.

We purchased our new "Breville the original '74 jaffle maker" as a replacement to an original that we were gifted in 1980 - which is just now showing signs of wear.The non stick coating is amazing in this new version and so easy to clean.I really like the unique scissor action plates that cut and seal the toasties.The jumbo sized cooking plates suit the larger bread size available from supermarkets and bakeries, which also means you can fit more into your jaffle.The polished stainless steel is very much like the original - very good quality.I would recommend this jaffle maker over any other.
This jaffle maker is supposed to be the same as the original item from 1974. I was 18 yrs old back then and when my family bought one of these, it was a pretty big thing because buying one was a small but luxury purchase and we didn't make many luxury purchases. So, I remember it well.This new jaffle maker seems to be a faithful reproduction in both appearance and quality. We've been using it now for a couple of mths and we're very happy with our purchase. It cooks evenly and when the green light says it's done, its cooked to perfection. The non-stick surface is exactly that. The jaffles release freely every time. I can find nothing to fault with it.
his is my new sandwich press, quality built with a three year warranty and space saving design plus they have thrown in a box of awesome recipe cards, both sweet and savoury!Easy to clean although it is a good idea to season the plates every now and then with some rice bran oil!This model has extra deep plates to avoid mess and leakages and precision cuts it right through without need for a knife.The temperature regulator on this is amazing and means it is properly cooked and never soggy, browning really nicely and can be used to make pies using your favorite pastry or even omelettes.Built to last with far superior plates than the cheaper models and a stainless steel exterior, plus can stand up on its side to save bench or cupboard space!I love how crispy ... My daughter purchased the Original 74 and raved about it so I got one despite still having my 30 plus year old, still going strong, old faithful Breville Sandwich maker. I love them both. Can get a bit more filling in 74. One of my favourite recipes to make from the Breville recipe booklet that my mum and dad had in the 70’s is Creamed corn, bacon and grated cheese. My father made it regularly and now I also have made it for my 2 daughters and now 5 grandchildren. His memory lives on each time I make it for myself or family and friends.
After mourning the loss of my real original jaffle iron, I bought one of these with high hopes which was very short lived. It melts cheese, but doesn't heat up enough to burn your mouth or turn the bread anything more than the lowest setting on a toaster. It will make a mess of your fillings by not giving the bread a proper seal like the old machines used to. I am very disappointed. If I wanted warm bread I would melt cheese on toast on a fry pan. Talk about soggy a sandwich!

Unfortunately new permutations are significantly inferior!I recently purchased Breville Big One and threw in the bin shortly after purchasing. Purchased the Classic thinking it may better and it is, marginally, but still not a patch on the original.What is happening Breville product engineers The original product sealed and kept flavours inside! Wheareas current product does not seal, and ingredients / flavours spew out leaving a giant mess! The essence of the original was the flavours contained inside with product sealing edges. Current models do not cook properly as heat and flavours escape, leaving uncooked and no flavour, just a mess!If your reading Breville, I would like my money back ... I had one of these Jaffle makers back in the 70’s and loved it. Have been thinking should I get one, as I already have a toast / grill appliance, I know it’s not the same but am I just adding another appliance. I should have bought ages ago, I love it. I like this one because it looks and feels so much stronger than others. So now I can make Jaffles and toasted sandwiches. I am spoilt for choice.
