I have been using my press for well over a year now and I am absolutely delighted with the performance; gone are the days of 2mm toasted sandwiches. The Press has so many different capabilities, limited only by your imagination. For example, cooking eggs, bacon and I have even successfully cooked steak a task performed with aplomb and the cooking residue simply wipes away with a damp cloth. I love my Press, it’s perfect for those small snacks that get us through the day.

This is such a brilliant addition to my Sage kitchen appliance family ! It is so easy to keep clean, you can use bread or paninis. It is ideal as being an oldie and with wrists that are rubbish I found it impossible to click the handle down on my old sandwich toaster. It is so useful to be able to store it on it’s side, and the flex being stored underneath is a bonus and so tidy ! And the best bit, it makes amazing crispy toasted sandwiches !Now I am saving up for an ice cream maker, may take a while on a pension !

I guess I shouldn't complain, after seeing so many reviews where the unit lasted one or two years, but mine made it a little over three years before dying right in the middle of a quesadilla. I used the press for both cooking diced veggies, warming various meat products, and then pressing a quesadilla. It worked very well for three years, did everything I asked, and then crumped right in the middle of lunch prep today. Very disappointing for a $100 appliance.

I loved this compact Breville press. It worked great & I used it on a weekly basis. I was so disappointed this morning when I plugged it in. It just stopped working. Everything from the cord to the hinges are intact. Tried to look up trouble shooting but this is a simple press so didn't expect to find information on why it would just suddenly die.
Overall, the Breville Toast/Melt Sandwich Press BSG520BSS is a well designed and constructed unit. The brushed stainless steel Floating Top Plate is well balanced and cooks evenly, automatically adjusting perfectly to all sizes of sandwiches every time. The added bonus is that the Top Plate is heat-insulted which is a unseen safety feature. Heat distribution for cooking is excellent, providing an even cook on both sides. This unit has large non-slip feat - the largest I have seen in its class. Heats up and cooks fast. One of the best sandwich presses one can buy and an absolute pleasure to use.

This is also a big deal, because you do not have to position the unit on the front lip of your counter to use it.I’ve read some reviews that complained about the longevity of the unit. I don’t have enough history with the Breville to provide an informed comment, but I suspect these reviews were generated by individuals looking to get a free out of warranty replacement from Breville (the squeaky wheel gets the grease syndrome). I am perfectly happy with the Breville one year warranty, but I also recognise that nothing lasts forever. That is why I bought the extended warranty, three years in total, for a mere $14.99. The perfect press is exactly as its name suggests. From its stunning curves which look amazing on the bench, to its perfect crush control hinge for the the best toasting experience you could ask for. The crush control provides such a great toasting experience for things like croissants, hot cross buns. In the past every time I have tried to toast one of these, they end up completely crushed and flat. The perfect press has a floating lid which only applies the pressure needed to toast a product, which results in perfectly toasted, not flat products.. and the best home made toasted cheese and tomato croissant I could hope for. With the outside of the bread slices buttered they develop a crisp golden finish, the cheese filling melts nicely and the ham and tomato slices are heated through. In short, the result is something you would not be disappointed being served at a café. The plates of the sandwich press just need a wipe with a damp cloth afterwards to clean them. It toasts evenly and is easy to clean afterwards. Heat up time is quick and the light weight hotplates don't squish your sandwich flat. The whole unit is light and easy to store. Despite this, it seems well built. The brushed stainless finish on the outside stains VERY easily and is hard to clean, but that is the only negative.
I replaced an old Breville sandwich maker with this. I like the Sage's compactness. The plates, being flat, are much easier to keep clean than ones with grooves. The adjustable size setting is really useful. Heats to green light in about 2 minutes, so not too long a wait. The matt stainless steel setting fits with my other appliances. I miss the Breville's temperature control - this press has one setting only. Ideal for long sandwiches and grilling. Too narrow for large round items like tortillas laid flat. Not cheap but quality.
