the worst machine I've ever experienced. you'll spend more time rethreading the needle than actual sewing. it doesn't handle any fabric other than plain cotton or poly. it chokes on satin, silk, Lycra, anything that isn't plain cotton. if your bobbin and spool threads aren't EXACTLY the same thickness, it rips the thread every 3 seconds. it chokes going over a hemline and rups the thread... theres absolutely not one positive thing i can say about this pos. seriously, Brother, stick to Label Makers. this was a waste of almost $200

I wanted a sewing machine to repair rips and unraveling seams. Once in a while, a simple project on HGTV or DIY will capture my interest. The occasional Halloween costume (with finished buttonholes) is not beyond me, and this machine will do all that and more.I have two make-or-break concerns with sewing machines, and I was surprised to find that this machine passed both tests. I’m not going to use a machine that requires a degree in mechanical engineering just to fill a bobbin. If the instructions are overly-complicated, have too many steps, or take an inordinate amount of time, I’m going to move on to another model. I feel the same way about changing out a presser foot. Both processes should be, but often are not, simple and intuitive, and Brother got both of them right.If you’re a beginner, this is a great machine for learning how to sew. It’s easy to operate and understand, and you’ll probably only ever use five or six of the included 37 different stitches, but the point is, they’re there if you ever want or need them. By the time you outgrow this machine, you’ll know most of what you’d ever need to know about sewing.

Compact lightweight user friendly

The Brother GX37 Lightweight, Full-Featured Sewing Machine with 37 built-in stitches and 1-step auto-size buttonhole machine is very user friendly.It comes with an instructional DVD, which is very helpful. This is the first sewing machine I have gotten with an instructional DVD and I believe they should all come with one. It makes getting to know your machine so much easier. It also comes with an instructional manual and insert which has a picture of all 37 stitches and the accesories.It includes 17 accessories, one of which is a nice soft cover. It even includes a screwdriver. It uses the class 15 plastic bobbins and standard sewing machine needles. I can't think of anything that Brother has not thought of with this machine. Using the extra bobbins you can have all your thread colours already wound and ready on the plastic bobbins.I can't think of anything that I can't make on this machine. The decorative stitches are very nice and can dress up plain T-shirts, blouses, and anything you want to make different.This is a lovely machine. I have had several brand machines from the very expensive including Husqvarna to cheaper ones. I found the Husqvarna very difficult to use. My grandmother, a professional seamstress, taught me how to sew at an early age and it carried over into my teen years with Home Economics (when it was part of school curriculum). My old machine sounds like a lawn mower these days, so it is a nice change.The machine also comes with a horizontal bobbin load with a clear case so no more, oops, I'm out of bobbin thread. I LOVE THIS FEATURE. I have always had vertical loading bobbins and, number 1, hard to manipulate (kind of a feel type load) but, this has the horizontal load "as nature intended" so to speak bobbin.I would recommend this product to anyone who is experienced and even the newbie just starting out. VERY user friendly machine. Plus Brother is a brand you can trust.

Great for any level

My first machine that has carried me through learning and endured much abuse, 3 years later this IS my machine. It's sewn through multiple layers of sherpa and fleece for me. I've never felt the need to upgrade. With the right settings this thing sews whatever I need it to and takes a beating from my kid who's obsessed with sewing. I bought this when I had no knowledge of machines and I'm glad I do, now I work in a fabric store and recommend it highly.

I just use a slightly smaller button than I'm going to put on the garment, and the buttonhole is the right size. Also, I have the bobbin thread a little longer than the video recommends.I like the see-through cover on the bobbin case, so I can see at a glance how much thread there is. Most of all, I like being able to go over the DVD instructions, and being able to pause the video and pick up again when I've mastered the instructions.The decorative stitches add a lovely touch to linens and quilts. There is so much more I'll be able to do with this machine, than with my old basic Brother. I went online and signed up for online sewing courses, and checked out Youtube--the possibilities are endless!

The pinnacle of this price tier.

This is hands down the best machine I've owned(out of 4). My last machine was a classic ELNA 8000 Computer. Loved it, until the rotary hook gave out. Then I bought this machine as per several recommendations by friends and colleagues, and I do not regret it. I daresay this model (GX37) is THE best available overall at this price tier. I did extensive research beforehand, and came to this conclusion. I heartily recommend this machine to anyone, beginners to veterans.

Very happy with this product

I was pleasantly surprised by this machine. It handles thick fabrics very well. What my hand-me-down Singer couldn't handle, this machine succeeded wonderfully. I had to get used to the different placement of the standard features, but that's because I had so many years experience with another manufacturer. The machine was securely packed in its box, with moving parts taped to prevent potential damage during shipping. It's a sturdy machine without any digital frills - just what I wanted. The only thing I worry about is the lever to raise/lower the presser foot. It's a plastic lever, so I worry that it might break if handled too roughly - or maybe it's just me being overly cautious. All in all, very happy with my purchase.
