The CPU is fine but the Intel cooler is rubbish IMHO. This version of the CPU includes a graphics processor built into the CPU chip that is fine for every day use. The CPU cooler does not fit onto the Gigabyte Z790 UD AX motherboard purchased. Each of the Cooler legs sits about 1mm above the fitted CPU. NO amounf of force can make the clip legs engage in the motherboard holes without destroying the LGA socket pins.If you try and make warranty claim that is denied for both CPU purchased and the motherboard due to bent LGA1700 socket pins bent in my experience. As far as I am concerned the LA1700 socket design is flawed and should NEVER been allowed to come to market. It just NOT robust enough for consummer use IMHO.Previous Intel coolers use thin gauge spring ... MoreThe CPU is fine but the Intel cooler is rubbish IMHO. NOT so with the supplied Intel cooler with this CPU. The metal legs of this cooler are of 1.8mm thick ribbed standard cheap steel that will NOT flex as required. The whole purchase of all components to build a window 11 PC has been a total waste of time and money.

6 cores, 12 threads and it will do everything you need it to for 65W TDP.Great for gamers, supports DDR5, (check your DDR5 speeds first) and if paired with a good tower cooler or water cooler it will sit at 4.4Ghz boost all day at low temps and with no problem. The Intel cooler is fine for office and every day use, but if you want to game on it buy a big cooler, I use a Thermalright Frost Commander 140, (it is massive and you need one in your life)

Excellent upgrade, makes transcoding much simpler/quicker - even on the integrated GPU. I'm sure it would do the same for games. Less obvious which way to install than previous generations as the small arrow is, well, small! The stock fan does the job and is not too noisy as full pelt. However, it's about time Intel invented a better system of attaching the fan to the motherboard/CPU as it took a few attempts to get it seated correctly in the press stud holes. After some overheating/CPU at 100% of thermal tolerance, I finally got it to seat correctly. Not ideal. Would only give it 4 stars for that, but as it allows me to edit video while transposing others without a sweat, I think it deserves 5 stars.

If your primary goal is playing games this is all the CPU you need, save your money for more GPU which is far more important. Because it is so power efficient you can also get by with stock cooling and a cheaper motherboard to allocate even more budget to your GPU. Get more cores and more threads if you do professional work or if you need more serious multitasking like streaming from the same PC you game on. The small subset of games that do perform better with more cores AND aren't GPU limited don't typically benefit as much from higher frame-rates. I'm using an NZXT H1 case which comes with a 140mm AIO, total overkill for this CPU. I can barely get the CPU over 105F during stress tests.
I would recommend that if possible purchasers should find the slightly cheaper CPU by itself and buy another cooling device separately. The stock cooler you are paying extra for in this kit completely useless and will actually not be able to cool this CPU sufficiently with even moderate use. So plan on $30 to $125 more for another cooling device. You WILL need it! That being said, the CPU is great. I thought my old i7-4790 was pretty quick but this i5-12400 dances circles around it. If you want every feature available in this CPU and have a large build budget, pair it with a Z690 chipset motherboard. But since this CPU is not available to overclock, you can save yourself some money and get a little cheaper B660 chipset motherboard. So read the MB specs and information thoroughly to know what you are giving up. Don't go down to the B610 chipset motherboards with this CPU as you lose far too many features. While this CPU is not as fast as it's big brothers the 12500/12600/12700/12900 series it is still a far cry faster than most anything you could get in the 10th or 11 gen CPU kits. Just keep it cool and it'll likely provide you enough power to not have to upgrade again for some time.
I own a computer repair business. I am very impressed with this product. I would recommend it to anyone wanting a good fast computer. This card is good for everything from video games to every day use. Don't be afraid that it's not an i7 it still has plenty of power for video games. For most people a K series i5 or an i7 isn't really worth the extra money. If you are using it in a gaming computer be sure to get a dedicated graphics card as the integrated graphics is only really good enough for business use and for some really old games. I am using an old GTX 1070 with mine and I am really pleased with the results. For 1080p gaming it is a really decent setup.
I initially bought this due to it being the most affordable mid range CPU for my new build, and was also considering similarly priced AMD Ryzen 5600X, but settled on this ultimately. I do not regret this at all.The performance is amazing and can run CPU-intensive games well along. The stock cooler provided is also amazing and simple to install, but would have preferred if it came with metal mounting screws instead of cheap-feeling plastic push pins.It is genuine and the packaging arrived sealed and undamaged. The shipping time was fast
The motherboard on my old AMD FX4300 system that I used for basic office and web use, my admin PC if you like, finally died a death so I decided to build something new. I originally was going to use an i3 CPU as I am sure it would have been more than adequate for the job however I discovered the i5 12400F and went for it instead. The i5 may not have the clock speed as some of the latest i3's but it has more onboard cache, the thing that crippled the old Celerons so to me, it was a no brainer. Added 16gb of DDR4 and it runs windows 11 beautifully stable so far.
