Aside from the very reasonable price, it has a fuss free interface with no fluff that they don't require and importantly, sounds absolutely fantastic.A nice feature is the stepless playback, whereby an album where album tracks seamlessly blend into one another - think Black Crowes Album 'Amorica' between tracks Ballad in Urgency and Wiser Time.I also tried the unit playing through my Yamaha A-S301 & Wharfedale Diamond 9.1's. Great sound; cheap-feeling remote control

This was to replace a similar model from 20 years ago which finally gave up the ghost. My hunch is that the sound quality has improved in that time, and I am genuinely delighted with this. The only downside (so far) is the feel of the remote control which, conmpared with the brushed steel controls of former days, feels like cheap and flimsy plastic. An unnecessary cost-saving change - in my humble opinion!

Great value and simple to set up and use

I bought this recently to replace a 44 year old Pioneer P112D deck that finally gave up the ghost. It arrived within a couple of days and was very easy to connect in to my system, with clear instructions for setting it up. It is working perfectly connected to the phono input of my amp and produces clear, good quality output enabling me to play my collection of vinyl once again. I can recommend it as a relatively cheap option for a deck replacement.

Looks good
13 January 2022

When I opened this I was surprised to see that it looked much better than in the pictures - the colour is much greyer than the silver appearance shown. It is a solid well made product without any flashy features and just does what it is intended to do well. It does, however , have one really annoying feature as the remote from my LG TV clashes with the remote for this so every time I change the TV volume the device switches on and the CD drawer opens! You might want to think twice if you also have an LG TV.

New sounds under lockdown
12 April 2020

I bought this to replace a fabulous earlly nineties Marantz CD42. I've had more or less 30 good years from this player and it would probably have given me another 30 if the drawer mechanism hadn't simply worn out. Anyway I rushed to replace this with a Cambridge Audio AXC25 before lockdown bit too hard. I am really pleased with this purchase from Richer Sounds. This is a great company who although not small in scale give the kind of personal service you would expect from a small family run business. The staff are great - and seriusly knowledgable about their own products and the wider hi-fi tech. I wouldn't describe myself as a Floyd fan - but I just wanted to hear what this new player could do. No disappointment here. Maybe I'll listen to a little more of the Pink stuff - Meddle next on the list. Next onto Tubular Bells Two turned up to eleven and I'm convinced - this player is good enough for me. I can't wait to blast some Fragile and Close to the Edge through this. I'm looking at getting another one for my living room. Have lots of CDs to listen to in these hard times and the Cambridge CD player will help me get through this. Well done Richer Sounds - just keep on going - we're going to need your kind of business hellp us through. Love it!

Perfect priced high quality CD player
18 June 2023

I got this AXC25 recommended by a Richer Sounds Telesales Advisor and the sound quality of the perfect no frills CD player is just right when on a budget I did however thought I should of got the AXC35 CD Player but looking into it there wasn't much for me to see that much of a difference though I am probably wrong. For me I am not a perfect hearing person but for the first time I have got to hear CDs as never before with hearing instruments clearer and giving a fresh crisp quality. Like I say if you are on a tight budget and want a well known make with high end quality for a price under £300 this is the one I would definitely say. You can spend hundreds to a thousand pounds or more but is it the answer to spend more when you don't need much to hear sounds like ... MoreI got this AXC25 recommended by a Richer Sounds Telesales Advisor and the sound quality of the perfect no frills CD player is just right when on a budget I did however thought I should of got the AXC35 CD Player but looking into it there wasn't much for me to see that much of a difference though I am probably wrong. One recommendation is to Cambridge Audio and that's make a multi playing CD Player where by you don't have to keep changing the CDs all the time but hat's just being a bit lazy. All in all an excellent CD Player for a beginner in separates HI-FI.

Plays CDs - but at a cost
12 March 2020

I recently discovered that a recent iTunes up(?)grade had resulted in my Sony CD player failing to recognize my newly recorded CDs as CDs. So I was compelled at short notice to buy a new player and chose the Cambridge Audio AXC25.Frankly I think its cost for a mature-technology piece of equipment like a CD player is pretty extortionate – a sophisticated video recorder/player costs much less. However, the Cambridge does play my new-format CDs. But I was even more shocked to discover this model does not have the facility to vary the output volume. And most shocking of all was to learn that the addition of that simple facility would mean paying 50% more for the higher grade Cambridge machine. In summary, this is a basic machine that functions yet costs IMO much more ... MoreI recently discovered that a recent iTunes up(?)grade had resulted in my Sony CD player failing to recognize my newly recorded CDs as CDs. Sleek and Classy and amazing full sound!
12 March 2022

I have just purchased the AXC25 CD Unit and the AXA Amp after deciding to keep quality music in the home. I do use MP3 files now and then on a smaller home set up but really missed my years of Wharfedale and Cambridge so decided to give it a shot. I was surprised at what I could get value wise, more than surprised and even more so the quality and looks of this great set up together. Totally recommended, lets keep quality music in the home and thank you very much Richer Sounds! ... Tim

Surprisingly good
10 January 2022

I wanted a cheap CD player to go in a second system after my venerable Arcam player finally died. I was new to Cambridge products and wasn't expecting much with this. Price was the main concern. I thought about the next level up, as it has a digital output, but decided to keep things simple and cheap. Wow! I was not ready for the sound quality of this machine. It may be inexpensive but the sound certainly isn't. The Wolfson Microelectronics WM8524 is clearly a very competent DAC. I have had many CD players over the years, many of which were significantly more expensive than this. Excellent build quality, looks good (Lunar grey), and sound quality is ridiculously good for the price.

Unlikely to find a better CD player at this price.

This replaced my old Marantz CD 42, itself a very decent CD player. No regrets! The Cambridge Audio AXC25 is simply a better CD player on a few levels. The general sound improvement isn't by any means subtle, as one might expect at this price. My CDs reveal far more clarity & detail, be it in vocals or music. Music sounds so much richer. I'm definitely hearing new details in even my favourite CDs that either I couldn't hear before, or else it was muffled.I've listened to artists like Talking Heads, Joy Division, Pixies, The Doors, Velvet Underground, Rolling Stones, Dylan, Cohen, Reed, et al, for decades & the amount of new detail I'm hearing via the AXC25 is a revelation. Amp will be replaced soon).
