How it works is you first record for the first 29 minutes. Once you stop at 29 minutes, you can immediately begin to record for another 29 minutes. I've liked everything about this camera... but there's a few issues. I'm a portrait photographer and I think a few simple things are missing from this camera, but it gets the job done. This one may be controversial, but I miss having a simple on-camera flash. Need a flash in a pinch? Too bad. Get out your external & diffuser and make sure they're handy. Want a double SD card slot? Nope, not on this camera. Yes, there's a compact flash slot, but those are out of date (2022)! I've never even used it with one. Want to take a photo from above your head and turn the lcd screen to see it? No, sorry that option isn't available on this model.I've also recently ran into a few repairs with this body. I was a guest at a stylized shoot (thankfully not a paid session) and we were just getting to the good part and my camera fails on me. Mirror/shutter is locked up and the only way to "quick fix" is to pop the battery out than back in... wish I knew that at that moment! Few hundred dollars in messing around with repairs and a shipping nightmare with UPS later, and I've only owned this camera for a year & a half. My beginner camera has lasted longer than that.

I've been renting from a competitor of yours since they were a startup in 2008. They uses to be amazing and the past few years quality of gear, service, shipping, everything has gone into the toilet. I recently moved to Los Angeles and someone recommended you guys to me and I could not be more shocked and happy with how amazing everything was. The gear was packed so well... shipping it in a hard case is so smart! The gear was clean and in great condition and surprise... the batteries were actually charged! Its the little things. SO grateful I tried you out. I'll never use anyone else now. Thank you for being awesome.
And I might just be the very last person on earth who has bought a Canon EOS 5D Mark III for the first time... I'm only 11 years behind, sheesh. In roughly the last two years or so I have been consolidating and simultaneously improving my entire camera gear roster. I've been selling much more gear than I have been buying. And although the EF mount is my secondary system these days, I am still using it and intend too well into the future. So then it was important to me that if I am going to only have a few bodies, that I obtain all of my favorite EF mount favorites on that roster before all of the good condition equipment becomes extinct. It's not easy consolidating your gear and choosing favorites, every camera or lens has its own strengths and weaknesses. But if you make careful considerations you can do it without regret; in fact you can actually improve your overall kit with even less gear. Its not how much you have, but how ideal it is to your needs, wants, and desires. This is where the 5D Mark III comes in.I've owned every 5D series DSLR from Canon, sometimes multiple copies of each, with the single exception of the 5D III. For one reason or another, I just never got around to getting one until now. I won't get into why because it's really not important. It's here, I'm using it, and I wanted to share my thoughts with others who are interested in DSLR's.The roster slot I wanted to simultaneously improve and fill? The full frame slot. And to me, the best way to fill that slot would to be with a great well rounded Canon DSLR. One that could do literally anything I asked of it, and yet at the same time satisfy my tastes in camera design. A goldilocks camera.I happen to love well built cameras. The better built, the better. More often than not, I like beefier and heavier cameras too, as they give me a sense of durability and craftsmanship that I find absolutely pleasurable. These traits also help the overall balance of a camera and lens for all day work, which matters to me greatly. Fatigue is real, and minimizing frustrations and maximizing comfort goes a long way for a working photographer. Here the 5D Mark II excels, it's extremely well built, and so much better than any of the new mirrorless cameras from Canon (much more metal, bigger grip, etc.). It's got the kind of pro level build you can take into a war time assignment and it will survive to fight again another day. It's not the kind of build the 1D series of cameras have, but it's impressively close to those standards.Compared other 5D series cameras, I find it equal in this respect to the 5DS/R models, and better than the 5D classic, 5DII, and even the 5D IV. The 5D III appeared just after the peak of digital camera sales and just before camera companies started cutting back on costs. These cuts manifested themselves in progressively lower build quality for each successive model (the exception being the 1D series, perhaps). It's tanky beefy feel of cold dense metal is intoxicating, I love it. And it's a little dated in the features, technology, and enhancement categories which perhaps makes it a little rough around the edges. I love that too, I'm unashamed to admit that. It's pretty much Canon's equivalent of Nikons D800, one of my personal favorite DSLR's of all time. It's viewfinder retains the option of interchangeable focusing screens, something I also adore despite the fact that I also really like Canon's smart optical finders in the successive models. Again it's a little dated, but that's okay because this gives me the option for different optical finder arrangements. And having more choice is always a good thing for me.The image quality is something that surprised me. And in a very good way. I guess all of the nitpicking, lab tests, and various exaggerations from within the bowels of internet toilet must have somehow created a lower than realistic expectation of its actual real life performance.I am very impressed with the detail, high ISO performance (wow), tonality, and color from the raw files. It's not far off from the 6D at all, a camera which I felt was one of Canon's best in terms of raw file image quality. As with many Canon DSLR's I get around the dynamic range deficiency (compared to its competitors, cough... Nikon) by making exhaustive use of Highlight Tone Priority. When enabled, I religiously expose for shadows and mids which leaves me with plenty of highlight latitude left over- that of which can still then be brought back in post processing if somehow highlights are blown.I use Canon DSLR's the old school way, ETTR, which is really opposite from the way many people are taught to shoot these days- which is exposing for highlights and bringing up shadow and mids after in post. And just the same, with HTP enabled there's a lot of highlight latitude here in the raw files of the 5D III as well, and I mean a lot. Therefore, I don't find the sensor limiting photo opportunities at all in this respect. I just have to pay a little more attention to exposing those shadows and mid tones right the first time. Fine by me. The 5D III has no problems doing that, and produces awesome images with its older 22.3mp sensor.Point being, ignore much of what comes out of the internet toilet about the 5D III's sensor, and instead learn to take advantage of the technology you have in it. You may just be surprised how well it can perform. It's autofocus system is dynamite too, even these days I see no reason that it can't handle anything I throw at it with authority. Unless I'm shooting black cats in a coal mine, it is very quick and accurate to focus on subjects, whether in motion or static, and that of course isn't news to 5D III owners. This is a similar performance to the 5DS/R I used to own, as well as the more expensive and newer 5D IV ironically. In terms of its interface, the 5D III is a total pleasure to use. Although not quite as configurable as my D800, it is still very customizable and ergonomically sound as it gets. It's menu system is relatively simple compared to the Encyclopedia Britannica-like complexity of the menu systems from many of the newest cameras on the market. It's pretty much all you need for still shooting, and nothing you don't (if you ignore the video options that is, lol).Ergonomically I love its big beefy comfortable but rock solid grip, the quality feel of all the buttons and dials, and the position of each as well. This is a camera, like other 5D series cameras, that becomes one with you - only it is much better than the first two generations. It's price on the used market makes it a huge bargain to those preferring an optical view experience to the raft of clone like Mirrorless options. And don't even get me started on lens availability and prices, because the EF mount is second only to the F mount in terms of available options. The lens options for the EF mount are vast, affordable, and there are many excellent top notch performers out there. Two of my personal favorites are the 24-70mm L f/4 Macro, and the Sigma C 100-400mm f/5-6.3 (also its Tamron 100-400mm counterpart). The 5D III pairs up seamlessly and flawlessly with both of these lenses and just those two alone cover huge part of my pro quality photography needs from Macro to BIF to landscapes for a total of around $1,000.00 combined used.No the 5D III isn't the newest camera, but that doesn't mean it still isn't a great stills camera, because it certainly is that. And like all camera's it isn't perfect so just tame your expectations a little, learn how to use it, and you might just be quite pleased with it.All in all, I turned out to be pleasantly surprised by the 5D Mark III. It's a little honey of a camera, a little bit 7D, a lot of 5DS/R, and for stills it's just as good as the 5D IV in my book- and for half or less it's cost on the used market. It strikes me as a very nice well rounded DSLR that can handle a boat load of tasks with aplomb. It's also downright pleasurable to use, not only from an ergonomic and interface standpoint, but also from a performance standpoint. And that goes a long way with me. It's big enough to handle any size lens admirably, and much smaller and lighter than the pro level 1D series cameras.Goldilocks might be pleased with the 5D Mark III, at least I know I am.
I have been shooting Canon cameras since the days of 35mm film (Canon AE-1 + others). Furthermore, I am aware that Canon has introduced mirrorless cameras. However, I have been shooting digital SLRs for many years now, and just a few years ago, I purchased a Canon EOS 5D Mk IV. That first camera performed so well and yielded some incredibly vivid, colorful, crisply focused photographs that I decided rather than start over with an EVF type camera (newer technology) for my "long" lens 2nd unit, why not purchase another EOS 5D Mk IV (proven technology). My latest Mk IV camera has already performed very well (comparable to my first 5D Mk IV). My latest Mk IV camera has already performed very well (comparable to my first 5D Mk IV). The only very minor complaint I have is that the camera mode selection knob (where you choose Tv, Av, M, etc) is slightly out of alignment with the detent it offers, thus it gives the appearance that the knob is not quite in its proper position. None the less, this is a minor cosmetic flaw and the camera functions just fine as it is. Just not the quality that I have come to expect from a Canon camera. This was my only basis for deducting 1 star (I had the option to exchange for another unit, but I had already registered this one and did not wish to delay use of the camera). None the less, if you seek high image quality and have use for a higher end SLR camera, you will not be disappointed with this particular model, (unless you are just starting out and don't own a large inventory of "L" grade Canon lenses; I am aware that there is an adapter for EF to the newer RF type lenses). I would be comfortable recommending this model to other photographers who have a need for this type of camera.
I was super excited to make the switch from Nikon to Canon and get this camera in my hands after shooting Nikon for 15 years.. I got the 50mm f/1.2L to go with it.. I had focus issues.. like 30% of my photos were not focused correctly. It would back-focus. I took it in to my camera shop and they calibrated the lens to the camera and it still didn't fix it. Thought maybe it was the lens, so I tried the 24-70 and same issue.. Talked to a few other photographers and they also had the same issues with the camera. The chromatic aberration was also awful! It was all over everything in the photo! I've never seen that before. Have never had focus issues or bad chromatic aberration with Nikon. Also, with Nikon, I can set my settings in Manual mode and can flip to aperture ... Also, with Nikon, I can set my settings in Manual mode and can flip to aperture mode and it keeps the same aperture that I set in manual mode. In the Canon, I had to set them separately. So if I changed my aperture while shooting in manual and popped into aperture mode, if I wasn't paying attention, I was shooting with a different aperture. For what the equipment cost, I would expect consistency in my camera and lens so I'm not having to cross my fingers and hope my shot is in focus. I also felt like some of the buttons on the back weren't necessary to be there and they could have put better function buttons in their place. Unfortunately, I missed my return date with B&H and could only sell back the equipment and lost about $1500.. Went back to Nikon...
I am no professional photographer. I am a hobbyist photographer. This camera was an upgrade from my Canon 6D mark II. At the time of this review, I have only shot around 100 pictures. The 5d Mark IV will allow you to take more control of your focusing points, focus areas as well as more custom functions. It has been an adjustment for me, but I knew this before I bought it. Reading the reviews and watching the editorials, it has not let me down. The weather is mid winter now with not many colors in nature. I don't have a certain subject matter that I shoot, but I have shot both outside and inside pictures. They have not disappointed me. I believe with more practice, this camera will be a natural as my 6D Mk II. I decided not to go with mirror less at this time and ... MoreI am no professional photographer. I believe with more practice, this camera will be a natural as my 6D Mk II. I decided not to go with mirror less at this time and keeping with the mirror styled camera. Canon has been my choice from the beginning and I will be a die hard Canon user. I purchased this camera from B&H Photo and Video. I have purchased equipment from them before. They did not disappoint me this time either! They even had it stock! I ordered the camera on a Tuesday and received it the next day! This was fantastic! B&H has never let me down and I will continue to use them.
I was happy with the 5D3. I never finished the chapter on the autofocus options, but the 5D3 was solid, quiet and reliable. The only thing I would have changed was added a few more megapixels. The 5D4 gives me more megapixels than most of Canon's new mirrorless wonders, all my lenses fit without adatpers and I even like the touchscreen, which I didn't expect to. Battery life is excellent. They even managed to make the batteries compatible so I didn't have to buy new ones. If you've invested in some good L lenses and don't want to start over with a new system, new lenses, adapters, new filters, new batteries, etc, a 5D4 might be a good choice.
Just purchased this second 5DMarkIVI, having previously owned a 5DMarkII and 5DMarkIII. (I always shoot with two bodies, each with a prime lens.) There is something about the ergonomics of these cameras that just works. I have found them to be incredibly reliable and rugged, having experienced inevitable mishaps during years of heavy use.Using L glass produces simply lovely images. More current cameras have better specs, but honestly, for me don't produce any better images unless shooting at ISO 3200 or higher.I tried the newer R series/mirrorless camera, but found it to be terribly unbalanced. Putting an 85mm f1.2 lens on the front of one of those cameras makes it difficult to obtain anything near a natural balance. Plus, the 85 f1.2 lens for the mirrorless ... Plus, the 85 f1.2 lens for the mirrorless camera actually weighs more than the same lens for this EOS camera. Go figure. All to say, I plan to stay with this system as long as I can and hope whatever is released down the line fits my needs.
