Do I wish this lens was faster? Absolutely. And it's definitely not a "do-it-all" workhorse, it's for specific conditions. That said, I loved having it for those, with 70-200 giving me quick access to a wide range of telephoto for varying scales of shots. In a semi-controlled documentary environment where I knew what and where I'd be shooting but where the exact distance and framing I needed was unpredictable and changing on the fly, was able to throw this on and get some great closeups and mediums as needed. Focusing was pretty solid too for such a long lens. For doc shooting pairing this with a more "standard" length zoom (like 15-70 or something similar) gives a ton of latitude. And this was sharp enough even at 200mm end of the lens.

So the pickup was a complete and total hassle. The fedex store it was delivered to denied the shipment the day before I received it. I received an email about this and I had to drive up to fed ex distribution to pick it up. If I would have waited till the next day when I was supposed to receive it, I never would have gotten it at all. There definitely needs to be some better communication between y’all and the shipper.Once I was able to get my hands on the lens, I fell in love with it! I was able to complete two different shoots with it and my images were amazing! I will definitely be purchasing this lens in the near future. Simply put, the combination of solid build, internal zoom movement, crisp autofocus, and extremely fine glass made this purchase a no-brainer. But to top all this, the performance of this generation lens on my EOS R5 via Canon adapter is to die for. A little extra weight is a small price to pay for this level of insurance and long term quality maintenance.

This lens came in a fully secured package, and neatly tucked into a case. I never had to worry about it getting bumped around or damaged with the level of care. For the lens itself, equal quality was provided. Clean, no damage, fully functional. If you are interested in the lens, let me tell you a little about my experience. With 70-200 mm, it was able to create a wide variety of detailed and cropped in images for landscape photography. The focus and zoom are manually adjusted on rings, however there is no lock. I've owned this 70 200 2.8 III for several years and am pleased with how it performed on my older Canon R and now my R5 that I've owned for about 18 months. This lens does an excellent job for event and fairly close wildlife photos. It also performs well with my 1.4X and 2X tele converters. The lens is sharp, focuses fast and accurately and has lower flare than expected. As others have noted, this lens is all metal and relatively heavy. To me the extra weight is worth the superior build quality. Also the lens does not pump and accordingly does not suck in dust.
I own the new Canon RF 70-200 2.8 lens. It's newer glass elements and coatings render beautiful images. However, I'm not a fan of the long throw of the zoom, or it's location on the lens. Don't like the telescoping lens that always zooms out to 200mm (gravity) when attached to a shoulder rig.It was recently damaged in an accident when 2 football players collided in front of me at a Spring football practice and ended up on top of me causing damage to the barrel. My insurance (if you are working professionally, this is a MUST) paid for a replacement.Having the option to replace it, or go a different direction, I decided to go back to an EF mount and EF-RF adapter with the Canon EF 70-200 f2.8 IS III. I didn’t have to auction off a kidney to afford it —extremely reasonable for a rental. They offer short and long-term rentals which is very helpful for people like me that can't drop 2 grand on a brand new lens.But here’s the real kicker: their branding. I have been wanting one of these lenes for a long time, and when I finally was able to get one, IT IS AWESOME!! The quality of photos I get with this lenes is unmatched! The reach of the zoom with the fixed f2.8 makes getting those far shots rich and full of color. The autofocus is quick and quite which makes action shots extremely easy to get. This lens also performs great for some portraits if you have enough space to frame everything or everyone.My one and only complaint with this lens is the same you will hear from everyone else...this lens is HEAVY!! A tri-pod, mono-pod, or something to brace yourself with is almost a must when using this lens for a long amount of time.If you won't mind the weight, then this is a great lens to pick up for your kit!

The negative is that the lens is pretty large and heavy, similar to the pro model lenses of Sony and Nikon. The newer RF lens is easier to tote around and lighter.
