I have been able to used this lens for a little while now and I am impressed with it. It takes good quality macro photos but also works as a standard 35 mm walking around lens. Overall I am very please and happy with this little lens.

Great lens! I’ve always wanted a macro lens but put off buying one. My daughter became interested in taking pictures and wanted to do close detail shots so I started looking for an affordable macro lens. I found this one and the light ring was an added bonus. We’ve been very happy with the quality and detail of the pictures. The only con would be that depending on the light it has some difficulty focusing.

Low cost, versatile, and easy to use with really decent optics.

This is a somewhat unique lens for an ASP-C camera. 35mm (55mm equivalent on an ASP-C) it fills a gap I had for wanting something close to a 50mm lens. Not only does it very nice imaging, but also 1:1 macro capability too, along with a rather unique and adequate macro light that is adjustable.I love macro photography and though I have Canon's 100mm "L" lens, this little 35mm just works very nicely for those really close-up situations where I can't get light on the target without getting out the auxiliary lights, stands, or tripod supports. Now I can just press the lens button, and there's my tiny little subject all well illuminated.

Nice macro lens for up close work
21 August 2018

Attached this lens for my Canon EOS Rebel T6 and I have been happy with how it has worked so far. The LED lights on the sides of the lens really help when you get up close and the camera is blocking your light. The lights have a high and low setting and you can select only the left of right side, but working the button to get the setting you want can be tricky. When the lighting is better, the lens hood protects the lights and helps to keep down lens flare. I am happy with this lens and I will be working with it more in the future.

Nice, but could have been better...
20 December 2018

This is a very nice lens but it could have been designed better. The button for the ring light is very difficult - almost impossible for me - to find by feel. It should have been raised a little. And forget the information (not from Canon) that you can put a 27mm filter on it. A 27mm is too small. And this is not "heavy duty" at all, but that was to be expected. Also, too bad it isn't an EF so it could be used on a full frame camera. There is no equivalent macro for a full frame - not without paying double or more, and that's a shame. But this lens does take nice closeups. Be prepared however to learn how to focus manually, and at f/32, because when you get real close the autofocus is going to be fooled. This means using a tripod or some other device to keep the camera rock steady. Again, that is to be expected. It's the only way to get real sharp details in just about any true macro.

Reasonably fast prime lens and great macro with image stabilization
20 July 2017

The macro feature with image stabilization does actually make it possible to hand-hold macro shots, especially with the added light from the ring light. i shouldn't say "ring light" because it only illuminates in two segments not a full circle. It can be turned on left, right, or both, each at half or full brightness. With both sides lit it does make telltale ring-shaped catch-lights in shiny surfaces. By the way the lens cap has two different sets of springs so it will fit with or without the included metal threaded lens hood (you need the lens hood in order to use filters). This lens will prove to be very versatile, since it's a good prime lens with a decent maximum aperture in the "normal" focal length for cropped-sensor APS-C cameras. I thought the 24mm f/2.8 pancake would be a good standard lens to toss in the bag when shooting sports with longer zooms, but it's really at the wide end of normal and this 35mm (equivalent 55mm) lens is better for shots of one or two people. In situations where you don't want to carry the slower and much larger kit lens, this one will come in handy.

Review of EF-S 35 mm f/2.8 IS STM Macro Lens
5 January 2019

Good Points: Great ‘walkabout’ lens for Canon crop sensor DSLRs. Sharp images even with the aperture wide open. For macro photography, the LED lights and image stabilisation make hand-held shooting a real possibility. Just be aware that the LED lights are only powerful enough to be useable close to the subject and will not freeze movement like a ring flash does.Improvement Points: No bad points.

This is an inexpensive macro lens with lots of bang for the buck
14 June 2018

This is an inexpensive macro lens with lots of bang for the buck. It is made for the APS-C DSLR Cameras [1.6 Magnification - not full frame]. The lens is Image Stabilized with a 2.8 widest lens opening making it quite good in low light. It is extremely light in weight and the photos, including macro images, are excellent. It has a unique feature for use in taking macro. The lens incorporates a light that surrounds the lens opening and thus is able to cast light on the subject. A great lens to add to ones collection and capabilities.

Very happy customer
20 October 2020

I took an interest in this lens a short time ago as I wanted a focal length that was pretty near 50mm on my Canon 80D cropped-sensor camera. Most of the retailers offer this at pretty much the same price, including Amazon, but you have to be very careful because only a few of them are actually Canon-authorized dealers.Adorama not only IS a authorized dealer, but also offered this very nice 'bundle' for a very competitive price. I've come to know that Adorama really is the best purchase option and their after sale assistance is second to none!

amazing clarity
3 March 2019

When photography is your hobby and you do want maximum value for money for each of your buys, you should consider this lens. Being a macro lens, it has amazing clarity. The 35mm gives you an all-round performance for macro, street, portrait and a little bit of landscape as well, which makes it essential when you want to travel light. Although, one might have an issue with the smaller focal length so that one needs to get real close to the subject, but at this price, one can not ask for more. This was my first purchase from Adorama. I am currently in Israel and Adorama delivered this to me within 48 hours with standard international delivery charges and they did not charge me any extra customs taxes.
