This canon EOS RP is an absolute game changer! Being that I own the EOS R, I was reluctant thats hybrid camera actually held up as a solid “B” cam when shooting. It’s lighter in weight than the EOS R but it can still take sharp images. And with the 25-105mm, you are able to get a nice field of view or zoom in on your subject. The lens is amazing. Now the camera, it can record 4K 24fps and it looks beautiful. The battery life is really good and can shoot raw photos. The only downside is that it doesn’t shoot canon C-Log but you can download image profiles that mirror “log” style shooting. I’m pleased to have this and would def recommend. 8/10!

Pros: -Small, compact, and light-weight. -Canon’s color science makes for great skin tones right out of camera. -Works with all RF series lenses. -Full frame sensor camera for $800-$900. -Sharp autofocus systems for quick action shots. -Easy menu system for adjusting/accessing settings. -Flip out screen for vlogging! Cons: -Shoots 4k in crop mode. -Not weather-sealed. -Cannot shoot 120 fps (although 60fps is good enough for most people)!

A good general purpose, all around carry lens, at a great price.

I purchased it as my go for lens when just poking around. Typically I shoot real estate where I use a Canon 17-40mm L lens for indoor and much of the outdoors surrounding the home as well. I have other long lenses from 70mm that will cover up to 800mm still in the 'L' variety. I needed something to fill that gap of about 40mm-70mm and thought this a good option. Since it is an ER lens, all the more reason to purchase it. In a prior Canon T5, it came with a 24-105mm EF which universally did rather well for what it was. So my thought for those times I just want to take a shot as a carry camera and perhaps want to do a bit of close-up like macros, I could use this one to do the job. Yup, it is not a Canon 'L' lens, but for this fill-in, it should work fine. This one ... MoreI purchased it as my go for lens when just poking around. Awesome lens
31 October 2022

I bought a Canon RP body only and thought I would use my EF/EF-S lenses with a ring adapter. I have the same lens in EF mount (24-105L) and it gets heavy after a while. I've read reviews that this native RF lens was lighter and the image was sharp. I find the reviewers were correct. I wanted a lighter lens with good sharpness and this fulfilled it. All stores I shopped at were out or on backorder online and also locally. Refurbished Canon lenses at their site was available but it was a tad more expensive and without the hood or filter. I was looking at eBay and saw this lens at a reasonable price and with hood and filter included so I bought it. The lens is stellar and really mates well with my Canon RP. This will be my travel lens.

Light and east to use with good enough optics
13 December 2021

I spent the last 15 years shooting hundreds of thousands frames with the EF 24-105 in a controlled studio environment getting dependable and excellent results all the time. But, it's heavy and I'd been waiting for something like this lens to be released. Now with the EOS R5 it's a really neat package.Again I use this only in studio, for work I get paid for and never require open apertures, normally shooting in the f11-f14 range so it works for me.A notable point is that any background blur is not as pleasing, being smeared rather than softened like in the EF version but that's probably not going to bother most people and I only see that because of the length of my experience with the EF.It's half the price so you'd expect some trades offs, this one's worth ... MoreI spent the last 15 years shooting hundreds of thousands frames with the EF 24-105 in a controlled studio environment getting dependable and excellent results all the time. Solid Travel Option if Not Using at 24mm Frequently
2 June 2023

I have used this lens extensively on a Canon R primarily for travel. For the price, this lens is sharper than expected at 50mm and longer focal lengths in my experience. Color and contrast are not as good as the RF prime or L lenses, but still very acceptable. Stabilization works well up to about 3 stops at longer focal lengths. The weakness for this lens is shooting at 24mm. If pixel-level corner sharpness at wide angles is important, look elsewhere. This lens is heavily corrected in camera and it shows. Build quality is good. It really should come with a hood to improve contrast, however at this level of lens, Canon wants you to pay extra for this benefit. If you're on a budget or need a light travel lens, this is a much better than average kit lens.

Versatile Canon Lens with lots of features
16 April 2022

This is an excellent lens that I did a lot of research on. Brand new, full price, it's roughly twice as much as what it was listed for here. The description said: "MINT Canon 24-105mm 1 : 4 L USM Lens + Case + Cleaner The Lens is in overall Excellent condition with some slight signs of use. Includes Lens carrying protective bag and Cleaner! No dust or debris. Shows very slight sign of use but everything works 100%." What it DIDN'T say is that there is a hairline scratch on the outer surface of the lens, in the upper right quadrant, about 3/8" of an inch long. When I first saw it I was disappointed, but thought I'd give it a try. I've field-tested it on several dozen photos and don't see any evidence that it's affecting the photos, but it would have been nice to have ... MoreThis is an excellent lens that I did a lot of research on. Very good entry level lens
23 December 2022

Knowing this is an entry level/ kit lens, it's very good. Mine is relatively sharp (I also have the f4 version, and an rf70-200f4, and my copy does decently vs those) throughout the range, and other than the slower aperture at the long end, it's a great all arounder that's got a decent range, good optics, and isn't expensive.Plus it close focuses well, has some macro features, and the IS is better than I expected for an inexpensive lens (this is mainly on an rp). It's a decent complimentary lens to a set of primes, also.

Why Is It...?
18 December 2021

If it doesn't have the red stripe and weigh a ton, I have so hard a time appreciating the non-L lenses? My decision years ago, when I switched full time to digital (ok, 99.9% of the time), was to only buy the best glass. I had a few instances--Canon's EF 20mm, for example--where I could apparently measure the difference in quality of image between a 20mm shot and one from my EF 15-35 lens; perhaps mostly correctable in Lightroom, but, still....I carried that 20mm w/the RF adaptor in Grand Canyon this year on my new R5, and came home with a respect for the lens I didn't have when it was on my 5D Mk III. And, I'm wondering, but that seems to be the difference between a camera able to extract from the lens more than the lens being able to show what's in front of ... MoreIf it doesn't have the red stripe and weigh a ton, I have so hard a time appreciating the non-L lenses? And, I'm wondering, but that seems to be the difference between a camera able to extract from the lens more than the lens being able to show what's in front of it?I sold my EF 24-105 L-lens to pay for this one, going for something light enough to carry into the backcountry--I'm past the days of carrying 50+ pounds of equipment and water for 4-5 days, since I don't do that enough to really get used to the weight--and I have to admit I almost held my nose to buy a non-L even with all the positive reviews and examples of photos.I'm mostly past the idea that L is the only way to go, considering, especially, how the R-series produces such great images, and that I have two other non-L lenses--the 35 1.8 and the 16mm (see my review of the 16)--but maybe my inherent skepticism isn't a bad thing: when it's proved unfounded I feel even better about my purchase. My goal with mirrorless was to down the size and weight of the equipment, while increasing the quality. I've carried a film medium format camera that weighed less than my 5D w/15-35mm and produced better images right out of the camera (and a long wait), and have resigned myself that more than film, digital takes the post process us camera-centric people have always accepted even if we didn't like (But, better the computer than chemicals!).This lens does a very good job covering the popular focal spectrum of wide to telephoto, and were it not for my purchase of the 16mm Canon released recently, this lens would have been the one on my camera into the backcountry. The images are sharp, correctable, and the 24-105 part makes it a one-man-band on any camera. And the price makes this another one of Canon's bargains, something their EF line did as well, but not nearly as sharply as the RF lenses. This, however, is another proof that digital has many drawbacks, but where it's driving the technologies is not one of them.

Works for me.

I just got this 24-105mm stm lens for my new Canon RP. I got the camera first and used an adapter with some nice and pricey lenses, L series and Sigma Art series to play around while I waited for the RF lens to get here. Honestly, the adapter worked perfectly. The other lenses (four of them) worked perfectly but still, something didn't feel quite right. I was in the middle of a Bomb Cyclone (really, I was) so I couldn't go out and take landscapes or birds or what have you. I was trapped in the house with the wind bashing at the walls and such. Hardly ideal conditions, I know, but that was what I had. I did get some good photos but there wasn't that ease of use and relaxed feel that you look for. Then this unit arrived. It's the STM model, not the expensive USM job so it's reasonably priced. Well, it's better than reasonably priced brand new. The other lenses that I had been using were much more pricey than this unit. It's funny, some excellent lenses don't cost much but they feel cheap and flimsy. Take for instance the 50mm 1.8 prime or the 10-18mm wide angle. They're both really good. They both take wonderful photos. They both feel and look cheap though. No so with this guy. It looks and feels solid and smooth. I got flawless performance and great ease of use. True, I was trapped in a house with shutters banging and rain falling and a 17 hour power outage in an emergency area. Still, as I suffered in silence, okay, I was silent because the phones were dead, but still, when I took a couple of shots in my living room, barely knowing how to use my new camera, it was like dancing with an old friend. The two shots attached are from that night. It's a keeper. If you're using a mirrorless with EF lenses and an adapter, consider this. You can easily sell your EF lenses for more than this will cost you and you'll get better performance out of it. Check it out. You'll thank me.
