I've been a Tredz customer for more than a decade, buying everything from bikes to components and clothing. In all that time I've never been anything other than completely happy and satisfied. Take this purchase for example - an 8-speed Shimano cassette for my (renovated) 2001 Giant OCR which I use as a commuter. It's so good that those of us who run older bikes can still source such great quality components at reasonable prices and know that we are getting a great deal, fast delivery and excellent service. Thanks for everything Tredz!!

I've had variants of this cassette for the last 6 years or so. For around £15 they work well as commuter workhorses. 3 stars because a) they're not top-end/premium product and b) they're part of a wider planned obsolescence within the industry - don't expect them to last longer than 12-18 months of daily use (bad batches can fare worse - I had one once that only lasted about 8 months!).Mind you, £15/year still beats public transport...

This cassette has completely changed my riding experience. I went from 11:28 to 11:32 and the difference is phenomenal! Good quality product. Thank you

I originally bought this to mount on a CX bike with road shifters (in an attempt to go 1x with a wider range of gears.) Regrettably it does not work well for that purpose (that being said, it sort of works.) My primary reason for this review is that this type of drivetrain conversion is very popular and using this particular cassette sounds like it would be a pretty good option. I'm sure I won't be the last one to try it. So for your information...It doesn't say it in the description, but this is a DYNASYS cassette. Yes, the Alivio group is now Dynasys, but when I was first researching it, I didn't make that connection; why would I? Alivio was not originally Dynasys (it was XT and SLX.) Yes, the Alivio group is now Dynasys, but when I was first researching it, I didn't make that connection; why would I? Alivio was not originally Dynasys (it was XT and SLX.) In my experience, Shimano/SRAM cassettes are usually interchangeable. This is an important differentiation: Dynasys requires a matching shifter (and derailleur due to the mechanical pull ratios involved - derailleurs don't always have to match speeds nor shifters, but this time it does.) The spacing on the low end is different. For the most part, my road shifters were able to index the smaller eight cogs, but could only line up with the biggest cog, missing the second largest. In practice, this actually works OK for light recreational usage (9 out of 10 speeds) but YMMV.The other bigger issue I had is the gear range; with a road standard crank, the jumps are a bit much and requires fine tuning with front chainring choice. Not ideal for gravel/cross or 1x road/touring conditions where you want narrower jumps to stay in the sweet spot.On my trail bike (XT and SLX mix) this works fantastic (with a compact triple) but if you think you might want to try a 1x option look elsewhere.
I bought this cassette to replace like for like on my tandem The current one is nearing the end of it's life, along with the chain, as shifting not quite so slick. Not fitted this one yet. I like to keep a spare in advance so there is no problem having to look around when it might be too late. BikeTart had what I wanted in stock and for a good price. Delivery was quick and accurate.
After my chain snapped, I replaced it but it kept slipping every time I changed gears.I have been REALLY struggling to source a Shimano HG-50 8 spd cassette. I was told that it was due to the pandemic and the subsequent factory closures.Anyway, I decided to order a SRAM replacement instead but was really pleasantly surprised to be sent a Shimano one instead. The item was despatched within hours and delivered within 48 hours. Great service guys. Thank you
This cassette was recommended to me by Erik's Highland Park store to use with my Wahoo Kickr Core smart trainer. I didn't remember until I was home that it was the same brand cassette that was on my bike. When I was researching smart trainers, one of the pieces of advice I read was to not buy a cheap cassette to use with the smart trainer. Buying this extra cassette for my smart trainer certainly made putting my bike on the Kickr as easy as could be: remove that back wheel, and put the bike on the trainer - doesn't get easier than that! #sweepstakes
Combined with a new Claris derailleur this cassette replaced a 12-25 cassette on my 22year old Lightspeed Titanium Catylist road bike with the Shimano 600 Ultegra double ring crankset still on front. I now have a bike to climb the steep roads up to and across the Blue Ridge Parkway in the Pisgah National Forest. So glad I ignored all the shops that said I couldnt do it and must spend $1000s on a new bike. I spent less than $100 on cassette/derailure/chain. Thank you for stocking an 11-34 8 speed shimano cassette at a great price!
Paired this with the shimano WH-RS100 wheelset for my 80s Trek resto project and the result is perfect. The wheelset says it’s compatible with 10 and 11 speed HG cassettes but this works perfectly fine as well. You do need to use the spacer included with the wheelset. Cheapest wheelset, cheapest 8 speed cassette, and cheapest 8spd chain from REI are all treating me well so far.
Cassette Shimano CS-HG50 8 Speed 12-23
The Shimano CS-HG50 is a high quality 8-speed cassette. Hyperglide sprockets have a computer designed tooth configuration with contoured shift gates, resulting in a crisp smooth shift even under load. Close ratio gearing allows a more efficient use of energy through finer cadence control, the sprockets are cut away to further reduce weight without reducing rigidity. The nickel-plated finish offers hard wearing resistance to corrosion.
