UMF stands for ‘Unique Manuka Factor which is used as a grading system to determine how much of the naturally occurring plant phenols are present within the honey. It’s the UMF that has gained so much interest and popularity in the last few years. MGO stands for ‘Methylglyoxal’ which is another measurement of the potency of Manuka Honey. MGO is an organic compound responsible for some of the uniquely therapeutic benefits of Manuka honey, so naturally, the higher the number of both UMF and MGO, the more pure and potent the honey is.
