CeraVe 100% Mineral Sunscreen SPF 50 | Face Sunscreen with Zinc Oxide

I’ve been on a mission to find the best tinted zinc sunscreen for my melasma, without breaking the bank. I have oily skin, especially in the t-zone, and the first time I used this, I thought it was way too greasy. But after looking at a few different products, I decided to give this another try. I learned that applying it on bare, freshly washed skin (no moisturizer) and then being patient to let it dry down works very well for me. This is moisturizing on its own (kind of the point of all those ceramides), and it takes a while for the moisturizer to absorb. Once it does, I get a powdery finish that’s not too matte. So I absolutely recommend this for oily skin—just be patient and try it on freshly cleaned skin. One other thing for me is that I’m one of these folks whose skin is often irritated by CeraVe products. This one did make the skin around my nose and eyes a little red the first time I used it, but I’ve learned that as long as I’m maintaining my skin’s moisture barrier, I can use this without a problem. Any slight sting is an indication to me that I need some cica balm that night, and then everything’s fine the next day.

CeraVe Mineral Sunscreen is one of the worst sunscreens on the market. For starters, it leaves an awful white cast on the skin. I know this because reviews on Amazon have shared multiple pictures of women with white casts, and comments such as “The white cast is very strong which left me disappointed.” .Even though some women haven’t gotten a white cast due to their very light complexion, they experienced slight blue-like discoloration. Another reason is that it doesn’t blend in well at all. I know because on the CeraVe website, the reviews are 3.2 out of 5 stars. Customers explain how “...you really need to take little bits of it ...not too much…. ”, and I know this is true with my personal experience with the product, as I was left rubbing it in for 15 minutes with the same result.Customers may say that this product blends well into the skin when using a small amount, but using a little bit of sunscreen defeats the purpose of protecting the skin from the sun’s harmful rays. This also defeats the purpose because the CDC recommends putting on a thick layer before going out.

I was really going to try to suck it up and use the whole bottle because it was pretty pricey for how much I hate this product, but I CAN'T. This product is a horrible experience from start to finish. First of all, the bottle is so messy to use and it gets everywhere, including all over your hands, bathroom, and clothes. Second, It doesn't blend properly without a makeup sponge, which I didn't previously own and had to purchase. This product also is so disgustingly oily that literally within 2-3 hours of wear my face was embarrassingly greasy and oily.
