Children Targhee Mid Waterproof Black Campsite Black Campsite / 8

(167 reviews)

The Targhee Mid WP Shoe may be for little feet, but it doesn't skimp on trail performance. The durable, waterproof construction protects feet from rocks and puddles, while the drawcord and hook-and-loop closure allows easy off and on. KEEN added a heel lock system for a secure fit and their Eco Anti-Odor treatment for lasting freshness.

Good choice for kid

Good choice for kid's hiking activity. When buying hiking boots for little kid, there aren't many choices on the market. Keen is a popular brand for that. We had bought one sandle two hiking shoes, they are good as always. Size perfect, contraction no problem, waterproof yes, comfort ok as we don't get enough feedback from the little kid.

Good quality- but poor design

I bought these for my 4 year old, they are great for camping and going through puddles. However, they are insanely difficult to put on, it’s impossible for him to do it himself and it’s very difficult for me to put them on for him, seriously I have worked up a sweat getting these on him, it’s very annoying. The ankle straps come undone after the first step he takes and just dangle there no matter how many times he does them back up. He had a similar pair of keens last year that were great. These might be okay for a bigger kid, but wouldn’t recommend for smaller kids who take their shoes on and off constantly, unless you don’t mind the struggle. Once they’re on though they are good shoes.

Great, solid shoe

I bought these for my very active 4-year-old daughter, after she grew out of her last pair of Keens. I love this brand. True to Keen's commitment to great quality outdoor shoes, this shoe has excellent tread on the sole, waterproof fabric that helps keep her dry when she can't resist the puddles, and the reinforced toe that stands up to much punishment, including the inevitable toe-dragging when she's riding her run bike (this activity, in particular, usually destroys all other shoes). The fit on these is great, and the height of the ankle is perfect (not too high, but enough to give some extra support and warmth) and the elastic laces/velcro are great for independent dressing. Impressive waterproofing
8 January 2024

I have been very impressed with the waterproofing on these shoes. I am used to even shoes that advertise themselves as "waterproof" usually being only "water resistant." Well, these are definitely waterproof. Our four year old wears them hiking regularly, in the last year, he has worn them in multiple countries in everything from mud to snow to puddles. Recently we caught him splashing in meltwater nearly to his ankles and assumed his feet has soaked. When we took them off for a sock change his feet were perfectly dry and warm. There may be cheaper options out there, but you can't beat the durability and waterproofing these offer. Definitely recommended.

Narrow toe box
13 September 2024

I bought these for my son who wears Keen sandals every summer and I felt that the toe box on these boots is especially narrow. Hard to get his foot in but that’s been a problem with other high top hiking boots we’ve tried. I bought two pair to try different sizes and one pair arrived with lots of scuffs and a strong fragrance.

Nice hikers for outdoorsy kids
13 November 2022

When these arrived they looked huge compared to my son's running shoes in the same size, but they are smaller on the inside. They look nice and well made, but are a bit stiff. I find it a bit hard to get them on and off, but hopefully they will break in with time. My son loves having hikers that match his dad's.

Not a fan
5 July 2020

I am a huge Keen fan and had reasonably high expectations for these boots since we own several different styles within my family. I've bought my daughter the Newport H2 sandals (which we LOVE) every Summer since she was born, and for her 3rd birthday we decided to gift her with her 1st pair of hiking boots. We hike at least 8 miles a week. Sometimes i wear her in a carrier, but over the past few months she's been walking a couple of miles on the trails on her own. We both have Keen hiking boots and I love matching with my toddler! But I noticed we had identical scabs in the same place on our right ankle. Then my daughter started complaining more about her ankle hurting. I realized that it was our hiking boots that were rubbing in the exact same spot on our ankles. ... MoreI am a huge Keen fan and had reasonably high expectations for these boots since we own several different styles within my family. It seems to really cause her discomfort, so unfortunately we will need to return her boots and find something else that works.

Not the correct size. Good boots.

The sizes listed in the guide and on the page are NOT the correct size. They are for toddlers. All of them. Not the first time this happened. Really sucks. Good boots, poor website. Again.

OK shoe if there wasn't a rock hard horizontal seam right in the middle of the back of the heel
24 February 2024

My kid liked them just standing trying them on, but as I thought within the first 5 minutes of actually hiking, she was complaining about the "very annoying" hard ridge on the back of her foot. Likely going to be a blister problem. Luckily sized up so she can wear thick socks but in summer time they'll be useless.

Very good shoe but not waterproof.
18 November 2021

My son has to wear orthotics and these shoes are super great for that. They are flexible for hiking, wide enough for the orthotics, and strong enough for a Boy Scout going hiking, cycling, and camping on the regular. However, they are not as waterproof as they claim to be. I will be waterproofing them ASAP. It is a good thing the Boy Scouts are taught to bring extra socks, and to wear thick wool socks. They are water repellent, but not waterproof.Oh and my son loves the no-tie-quick laces.
