Some years ago I was faced with a situation where I had not had a bowel movement for a week give or take a couple of days. I tried numerous preparations purchased at my local CVS. Nothing helped. When I called my doctor he told me that I needed a product. I told him that I had tried numerous preparations and began naming them. He cut me off and said No. A product. gastroent doc recommended it when i was plopping out little ball shaped number twos every day.so i drank the citrucel about an hour after breakfast for a few days. did it help? i dont know. maybe. i may have just been dehydrated from not drinking enough water. in any case, its not something id want to drink daily for more than a week anyway since it contains Aspartame. it tastes fine to me, kind of like a more viscous version of that orange powder drink from the 1980s Tang?.

I think the main ingredient is helpful with gut issues but this is sold by a drug company so they should know better than to add aspartame to something that is sold as a product to improve your health. First the taste is noxious - I add an entire lemon to reduce the sickening sweet taste. But if you look at aspartame and effects on the gut, you would wonder why a product meant to improve gut function would then go and add something so unhealthful. I should have paid more attention to the label - when it said sugar free I assumed unsweetened. With all the minimalist seltzer waters out there, naturally flavored but without sugar, you would also think that the company would provide a drinkable product that doesn't taste like 1960s Koolaid. I would prefer to drink this rather than take a tablet so I make sure to drink enough liquid with it. Note that there is ZERO indication on how much aspartame is in every tablespoon. They should give you that information. I would not recommend this product because of these things. If you're a diet soda drinker anyway, I suppose go for it. Otherwise, try something else.

Best Price/Ounce for Sugar-Free Version

This is consistently the best value/ounce of sugar-free Citrucel available. If this is the fiber you use regularly, then you know that the prices can vary greatly in stores and online. Walmart pricing for the 32 oz container is simply the lowest. The price is worth having to buy a couple more items to get the free shipping. The expiration dates are years away, so we just buy the three pack of the big Citrucel. Keep in mind this is 32 oz when comparing. I sometimes carefully pour the powder into smaller jars because I get tired of looking at a huge labeled fiber container sitting on the counter. I’d rather look at a smaller unlabeled jar. Bottom line is the Walmart pricing is lowest.

FDA should require listing of sugar

I ordered this upon the recommendation of a physician as a fiber source that doesn't cause as much bloating as some other fiber supplements. The label doesn't provide this information, but each Tbsp (2g of fiber) also has 9g of sugar. Quite astounding, and totally not something I would have ordered if more clear on the label. My full 30 oz container just got tossed into the trash, and I hope FDA soon requires more clear labeling of the refined sugar content in health supplements.

It’s a tasty colon cleanser.

What’s not to like about a high fiber drink that not only taste good but sugar free as well! Every evening I mix up 3 heaping tablespoons of Citrucel in a large glass of water, it tastes like grown up Tang and makes me feel like John Glenn prepping for the Mercury space launch. When I’m really feeling frisky I add a couple shots of vodka for a guilt free screwdriver. You gotta be careful because one time I had 5 of these before bed, let me tell you something, I didn’t get off the can for about 3 hours; this was worse than prepping for a colonoscopy!Do yourself a favor and follow the instructions and your morning constitutional will be smooth as silk.

After my last colonoscopy, my doctor recommended this product. It has made a substantial difference to my system: to the better! It is a little high on sugar, and that's the downside. The sugar-free one has too much artificial sweetener for me. I got my doctor to write a Letter of Medical Necessity for this, and now I run it through my FSA. This is a product that works and is effective in regulating one's digestive system. I've never felt better.

The best laxative and constipation preventer is Citrucel. It tastes good, has minimal, if any texture, is less costly than others and is simply made from a derivative of paper, so, it'a very safe. I've used it for 20 years, have seen 3 GI specialists and continue to have it medically recommended by them. Don't mess with the awful texture and taste of other laxatives, this is the one you wont give up.

Taste like a orange drink, no bloating, works.

Taste like a orange drink, doesn't taste bad. I use 2 spoonful's, in one 8oz glass, then refill the glass to wash it all down. Never feel anything negative from it. Seems no different than drink a orange drink. Usually within a couple of days, it gets things moving again.If you want something that doesn't cause bloating, and only does it's job, then this is what your looking for. One container last quite awhile, about a year now.
