Clairol Root Touch Up Natural Instincts 8 Medium Blonde Permanent Hair Colour

I received the Root Touch-Up by Natural Instincts product for free from Influenster and Clairol in exchange for my honest review. It was very convenient to use because it came with a nice angled brush and a disposable mixing bowl (and gloves of course). All I had to do was mix the color developer and apply. I received the color 5C and I normally use 4N so I was expecting the color to be slightly too light. I really like that the product contains NO ammonia, so it didn’t smell bad at all and is better for your hair. There was enough product to fully saturate my roots around my face and on the top of my head. I applied it and left it on for about 35 min even though the instructions said 20-25 because I was worried it would be too light and because my grays are stubborn. It washed out easily and I didn’t notice a lot of hair loss like I sometimes do when I dye my hair with other products. The color actually turned out pretty well; it wasn’t too light and it looks natural. It covered most of my grays, but I can see some copper-colored hairs here and there, which isn’t noticeable and doesn’t look bad. I’d say the gray coverage isn’t exactly 100% but it’s close. It may have been even less if I had left it on for only 20-25 min as suggested by the box though. A slightly darker color may have worked better for me too. I usually buy a full container of dye and use 1/3rd of it each time I color my roots. This package, while very convenient and easy to use, is not cheaper than a box for full coverage. I’m going to keep the brush and re-use it but will probably continue to purchase the full sized product because it ends up being 1/3rd the price. I would recommend this product if it’s your first time dyeing your roots, or if you’re traveling as it is super convenient to use if you don’t already have a brush and mixing bowl. Plus you don’t have to measure out how much dye and developer to use each time (I eyeball it and it tends to work fine) and clean up is very easy.

Clairol Natural Instincts usually leaves my hair feeling slightly better than before I colored it. This was the case again with the Root Touch Up. I love that it has no ammonia in it. When you use the dye, it doesn’t feel like it’s burning your hair or hurting your head, as some hair dyes do. The smell is also more pleasant and not as intense. The color I used is Light Brown. It’s close to my natural hair color, but not that close to the color my hair is now. It was easy to cover my grey hairs, and I have plenty to go around. Even though this color did not match my current color well, it still blended into my hair color and covered the grey hairs. I will definitely use this again, but I will get the dark auburn or black color instead. I’m grateful for Clairol Natural Instincts for trying to lessen the damage to your hair while providing cover-up for those nasty grey hairs!

Along with everything I just mentioned , there was also a nice brush to use for adding the color to the roots of the hair. I and not exactly sure why this was not included in this root touch- up product. I will say, this is my first time ever using a root touch-up product as I normally use a hair dye product for all over coverage, so there must be some type of reasoning behind not including the conditioner. Nonetheless, wasn't happy about the no conditioner issue. That all being said, I did only notice a difference in the color of my roots after properly using this. However, I'd likely have to adjust the timing if I ever planned to use this again because I kept it on my roots the desired length of time as per the instructions included within the box and it did appear to me to be a slightly different color than the rest of my hair. This is a common occurrence for me any time I go to the salon for root touch-ups and it is quite frustrating to say the least . All in all, I personally don't think I will purchase this product in the future for use on my own hair as I am simply not a big fan of root touch-up products in general. This does not exactly speak to the quality of this product necessarily. I just prefer to dye my entire head of hair as opposed to just the roots. However, I would probably still recommend this product specifically for someone who happened to be looking for a decent root touch-up dye for themselves as I honestly believe this is a pretty good product.

Let me tell you she was not a willing participant it took a lot of convincing as she is comfortable with her gray and I currently have braids in my hair and recently had my hair dyed so I need to use my mom’s hair as she has never in her life dyed her hair, Ever! Well the change was so subtle that you really couldn’t tell that this application was ever used. She was impressed that it didn’t make her look like she was going through a mid life crisis and that it just tinted her hair. This product is really amazing. When I first got it I noticed how small of a quantity was in the bottle and was a bit concerned as I have very long hair. The product comes with a cute “tub” to mix the two parts and a small brush to place the product with. The brush is actually the key to why this amount works. It prevents you from using too much in one area. The one bad thing about the brush was that it pulled out some of my hair bc it was really stiff. The product went on smooth and the instructions were very easy to follow: mix, apply, wait 20 min and rinse. There wasn’t any conditioner like with other boxed hair colors but the product itself seemed to be nourishing enough that it made my roots silky. After 4 years of letting my hair heal and be healthy it's finally to the top of hip bone (was a chin length bob), while also dying my roots dark brown over the last few years, then gradually dying them a lighter shade each time, I got over my fear of causing damage to my hair I worked hard on growing out. I went and did my roots with a light brown shade (should have used a medium brown) with a this new brand of hair dye (I only use one brand that i know for certain wont kill my hair) and it was alot easier then how I normally apply it with the squirt bottle with the nosil and hope I don't miss a spot , luckily this one came with a brush which made it about 1,000 times easier. It didn't have that overwhelming harsh smell which made the process more plesent. I had no burning or itching while Iwaited the alloted time after rinsing it out and waiting for my hair to dry my roots aren't noticeably grown out anymore and pretty much covered, only complaint is us who have thick hair could use a little more product in the bottle to where it doesnt feel like you have to make it stretch and hope you have enough to cover all your roots. thankfully there was just barely enough to cover my whole root area but it was cutting it close. also I could have use a shade darker but that's totally my fault. i also didnt notice any dryness or icky feeling in my hair so thats a relief. all in all it's a pretty good product. I'll update if I see any fading or issues :)
