I'm a fan of trying new spfs. Looking at the ingredient list, one of the earlier ingredients is petrolatum. That might explain the thickness of it. I have very dry skin so while I'm okay with the thicker texture, it pills like crazy. Like, ridiculously so much pilling. So much. I like layering a final day cream over my spf but that's not possible w this. This will likely need to be a last layer type of thing. Not too sure if I'll repurchase tbh. It's quite pricey

I have used Clinique for many years. I bought this new Superdefense moisturiser a couple of months ago and wear it under foundation. I don’t like the texture. It takes too long to absorb and my foundation is not as easy to apply: it is harder to cover my skin. Please bring back the original superdefence moisturiser. 🙏

I'm a former Clinique business manager & a huge beauty enthusiast. I know Clinique & I know what works for oily sensitive skin. This product is amazing. It's actually 10x better than the previous Superdefense. The old one was thicker & didn't agree with my skin (greasy, clogged my pores, & mildly irritated my skin) so I used to use Youth Surge. This is similar to the texture of that with the antioxidant benefits that Superdefense offers. My skin is more radiant after only two uses. This has a gel cream texture that is NOT OILY whatsoever. I think the people leaving bad reviews are getting the wrong formula for their skin type. Or they're mad that very dry to dry combo is lumped together now, which I can understand, but if you're oily you need to seriously try this. ... I think even dry combo skin types prone to acne could use this formula during the warmer months. I'm so glad they reformulated this because it's my new go to day moisturizer. I usually don't go for products with chemical sunscreen either due to sensitivity, but this stuff is great. I'll probably buy the night moisturizer too now even though I already have one that I like. The results I've gotten with this product have exceeded my expectations. The only negative thing I can say is that it has a strong sunscreen smell, but that's to be expected. Good job Clinique.

Like many others, I was a long time fan of the original Superdefense. I even regularly bought it in both formulas. The oily skin formula was my everyday go-to, it provided a nice glow and absorbed quickly. It went so well under any foundation that I could skip a primer when I was rushing to get out of the house. I was pretty sad when I realized that it was getting discontinued but I managed to get a couple from other retailers that still had the old version on hand. It was pretty much the only moisturizer I used. I eventually moved on to another day moisturizer from another brand that works pretty well. When the oily skin formula of this new version came out in a holiday set and was on sale, I thought why not and it's not bad. It seems like it does sit on the skin ... When the oily skin formula of this new version came out in a holiday set and was on sale, I thought why not and it's not bad. It seems like it does sit on the skin longer, and I can see this being an issue when I am no longer working from home. But for now I can just sit here for an hour or so waiting for this to absorb, or I give up and skin makeup entirely for the day. For that, it's okay. I like the SPF and it gives me a nice glow still. I went ahead and got the dry skin formula too to try it out, and that just sits there now. It's heavier and greasier than the original, it was even too heavy for the drier winter months so I doubt I'll even touch in as the weather gets warmer. Oh well. The oily version isn't bad but it won't be my go-to like the original. I'll keep it in rotation but also continue to use the other brand that works just as well. I've been pretty disappointed by some of the updated formulas lately.
I have used Clinique products for 25+ years, ever since I was a certified consultant in college. However, it seems that the company looks at the products I use and then says "Leslie uses this, so let's change or discontinue it. The latest occurrence was the Superdefense Cream. The old formula was great. I used the one for oily skin, and it absorbed quickly and went well under my makeup. Not so the new formula. I got the oily formula, and when I opened the jar it looked and smelled like plain old sunscreen. And it felt like it too. Like others have said, it leaves a greasy film (and this is the formula for oily skin I'm talking about - it should be light and oil free) and doesn't play well with my makeup. I will finish the jar that I have while I look for something ... MoreI have used Clinique products for 25+ years, ever since I was a certified consultant in college. I will go to my local counter and talk to my consultant before I change brands, though.I just don't understand why you tried to fix something that wasn't broken. Please bring back the old formula.
I was using the old SPF20 Superdefense for years and it worked perfectly with my skin. It was an amazing base for my Clinique make up and I was always complimented on my skin. I was quite concerned therefore when I learnt it was being discontinued. I spoke to an Advisor who said this new product was its replacement and apart from the packaging and a few minor additions to fight fatigue, it was the same product. It is not, it is horrific!! The texture is completely different and it actually feels like it is sucking the moisture out of my skin. I felt so uncomfortable throughout the day and my skin felt better without the moisturiser on. It leaves your skin so dry that my makeup sits on top and looks clumpy, uneven and because of the products poor quality, my makeup ... It leaves your skin so dry that my makeup sits on top and looks clumpy, uneven and because of the products poor quality, my makeup sits in every line and has aged my look considerably. I am so disappointed with this product and have never experienced this with Clinique before. I called the Customer Care Team who have advised me to return it and the woman I spoke to said she does not like it, its not the same texture and the nearest thing to the old SPF20 Superdefense, in her opinion, is the Clinique Smart Moisturiser. However this starts at £54. I think Clinique have changed far too may products recently, have reduced the quality but have increased their prices. I have been using their ranges for 20 years and feel the current range are the most disappointing. I now do not know which moisturiser to buy as the Moisture Surge doesn't cut it either. I just hope Clinique reads all the bad reviews on this product and brings the old one back, please!!!!
Pros: Excellent moisturizer for dry skin & doesn't leave white residue like many sunscreens..Cons: Increased puffiness under eyes. Increased overall redness. This is my 2nd bottle. I've noticed a great increase in swelling under my eyes & redness/irritation. Initially I did not realize it was this product. I missed "barley" when reading the ingredients & I have Celiac. I've always loved Clinique, but I've had to pay close attention to the ingredients as they USE GLUTEN IN MANY PRODUCTS. It's 100% my fault that I missed this.Clinique's formulation philosophy promotes products free of allergens. Their key ingredients do not contain gluten. I had such high hopes for this product, especially for the price. Tried using it for a few weeks now but I can't get it to work on my face. I usually apply my cream to freshly cleaned and dry face, and then wait before applying other products on top. After applying this to my face, the product starts pilling, especially on my chin, cheeks and forehead and I'm stuck having to get rid of white bits on my face for ages. I don't think it should be doing that with no other products on and it's extremely disappointing because I was hoping this would be my new day cream going forward. Instead I'm just out of pocket, so would not recommend.
Suncreens aren't my friend because I've reacted to so many. Once I tried Superdefense, I stuck with it because not only did I not react but it was a very effective sunscreen - a thin application lasted all day plus, it was an excellent moisturizer. I've been using Superdefense year round for years (even before you reduced the SPF from 25 to 20). A few years ago, I went to buy it and the store didn't have it and neither did you. I panicked, thinking it was discontinued but no, it was only a temporary stock issue. After that scare, I purchased 3 jars at a time to ensure I would not run out in case that issue repeated itself. In the summer, I used it sparingly on my arms and legs without reapplying during the day and never burned. Furthermore, whatever was in the ... In the summer, I used it sparingly on my arms and legs without reapplying during the day and never burned. Furthermore, whatever was in the product was already anti-aging because the skin on my face looks considerably younger than my age. What more could I ask for! This new version made my face burn from my cheekbones down and my jaw line was extremely itchy. My neck was slightly itchy too. Those are the adverse reactions to beauty products that caused me to start using Clinique decades ago. Why did you change such an excellent product? You know the saying "if it ain't broke......." How about bringing the former Superdefense back and give this new product another name?
