Material works well, definitely applies to surfaces more easily than the Windsor Newton brand that I was using, but now I have to worry more about leaving fingerprints on my artworks. Overall great product!

I find willow charcoal to be superior to other forms of charcoal. It can be applied heavily but is easily erasable. It can be used to create a variety of marks. The packet arrived with evenly graded pieces, carefully wrapped in black tissue. A treat to use!

No complaints. I thought it would go down to all the way black, but it goes darkest to very very dark grey. Not what I had in mind, but still turned out great for my project. Didn't break too easily, but was a little hard to use on its side because of how thin the sticks are. Still worked well, though. #sweepstakes

I use a lot a vine charcoal so I need it to be cost affective with my art and these are the best! Varying sizes from extra small to medium small.
I use charcoal for my local figure drawing group sessions. Our local art store closed so Jerry's is my fall-back store. I wish they had varietal packs (size and softness).
First of all, the packaging was great, nothing broken. The charcoal itself is my new favorite. It's the darkest I've found, lifts easily for lights, is soft enough to blend perfectly. This is all I will use from now on. I purchased every size available and love them all. Thank you Coates, and Dick Blick for perfect packaging.
I purchased this reasonably priced charcoal to augment my current and old collection before I start my next drawing classes. It will be sufficient for all students to experiment with, and I'm happy with the quality!
I use this vine charcoal almost exclusively for all of my charcoal drawings. It's got the right texture and softness that I've come to trust and rely on. I've tried many other brands of vine(willow) charcoal and this one suits my needs best. The thinner sticks tend to be extra brittle and break but the thick sticks are just right for the type of drawing I do. The only other brand that has equalled Coates is Daler-Rowney willow charcoal. Coates is definitely one of the best and most reliable brands of vine charcoal out there.
I'm somewhat new to charcoal but this is the second box I've bought of this brand and it's been great so far. First i bought the pack of assorted thicknesses and found that i prefer working with the thicker sticks but it's nice to have a variety on hand. #sweepstakes
This vine charcoal comes in two bundles, and each stick is soft and buttery to lay down. I love using this charcoal!! It's not scratchy or easily breakable, which makes it a winner!

Back in the 1960s Percy Coate began experimenting with the willow he grew to make drawing charcoal. Although it took some years to perfect the technique, by the 1970s he was finally ready to share the new Coates Willow Charcoal with the world. Percy's grandfather, Robert Coate started in business in 1819 as a 'withy merchant', buying and selling local willow crops. Today Coates is still very much a family concern with members of the family involved in all aspects of the business.
