Picked up this tent today from Wal-Mart in South Dakota. Haven't used it yet, but seems like an OK tent. My main issue so far is that mine came with a Ridge Pole tent, and I don't see anywhere to connect it. The info on the bag, and the setup videos I found on YouTube are all useless. Does anybody have any clue how it is supposed to connect?Gave only 2 stars for the horrible instructions. I am not new to tent camping at all, but this issue is driving me insane.

My main personal tent from a mid-high level brand is a decade old and performs like it's new. I bought the Carlsbad tent not to use professionally or in wilderness or adverse or rough weather conditions. I bought it for a car camping, established campground, fair weather FAMILY camping. After two nights, in the aforementioned setting, it has proven to be garbage. The seams are all loose and perforated the whole length. Why? It was not used in any wind whatsoever. After two nights, in the aforementioned setting, it has proven to be garbage. The seams are all loose and perforated the whole length. Why? It was not used in any wind whatsoever. It was not tensioned incorrectly or stretched in any way. There are lines etched in the nylon from where it was simply folded when it was stored, and holes are visible all along these seams. Why? It was swept and shaken to remove any sand or dirt or whatever before I folded/rolled it up for storage. Is it supposed to be stored fully assembled because the fabric can not handle being folded? The last night we used it, there was no rain- just light drizzle, barely more than a heavy fog. Nothing was touching the walls of the tent, yet the nylon completely wetted out and dripped in to the interior. I've had way cheaper tents that never did that, even in ACTUAL rain. This is a Coleman family tent, for kids and a dog, it isn't some high performance item that should need to be babied and fussed over. I dont buy Coleman products to treat with kid gloves, and I dont know anybody who does. I don't know what to do with a tent that cant handle light morning mist. Giving it away will just ruin someone else's camping trip, but what an environmental crime for all this crap to go straight to a landfill after a single use.

Do to overnight 39 degree Temperatures outside, heavy condensation inside the tent caused dripping and dew like moisture on top of our heavy top cover blankets. Over all better venting would help, but with that would come a loss of heat. This tent is more suitable for moderate temperature camping. Great tent! So spacious. Definitely would recommend, however the only issue is that if it starts to rain I hope you have an awning or tarp big enough. The fly mesh in the front won’t stop any water coming in. The front entrance is partitioned off from the main part so no water will actually get in where you’re sleeping which is good lucky, but stepping out into a puddle first thing in the morning will definitely wake you up a bit quicker than you may have been expecting.
This tent held up very well in wet New England weather. There was a constant layer of mist and haze, making everything just a little bit damp, but the inside of this tent stayed perfectly dry. It also held up well in the small rainstorm we had. The inside does stay significantly cooler than any other tent I have had. While the walls do let in some light during the day, at night it is PITCH BLACK, even with campground lights and headlights passing by outside. The screened in porch is perfect for leaving shoes and other dirty items that you don’t want left out but don’t want in your actual sleeping space. First time using the tent and we had rain both nights. Held up OK the first night with light rain, but was leaking EVERYWHERE the 2nd night with a little heavier rain. The windows were leaking and corners were all dripping. Had to move our bed and everything in the middle of the tent just to stay dry and away from the dripping seams around the windows. Had no choice but to bunker down, but ended up very wet.Did a lot of research before purchasing and decided to buy anyway because there were lots of mixed reviews. Now I can say with confidence after actually trying it out for myself that this tent is not waterproof. I'd recommend buying a different tent that will withstand rain better. This is not the best choice.
The Carlsbad Dark Room 6-Person tent is moderately easy to set up. The screened vestibule is nice and the tent has good room. The one I got had a manufacturing flaw in the back side of the rain fly, which is also the part that provides the dark protection. There was a 6 inch long separation/weak spot in the fabric that let light in and would surely fail in short time. I returned it. It would be a good car camping tent or for festivals, and I got it for $78 so cheap. I liked the Dark Room feature, it really did keep it dark.
Slept in this tent for 21 days during a work trip. One pole sleeve ripped during setup. Rain fly doesn’t cover the screened porch, so that space is unusable as storage. Came back after each rainstorm to find a pool of water on the floor of the porch because it doesn’t drain well. Getting in and out of the porch enclosure is difficult as well because there’s not a stake at the point where the three zippers meet to hold the floor down, which would create the tension needed to easily open the zippers. The dark room technology was just OK. Pretty disappointing because I’m a fan of Coleman tents. Wish I could return this one and go with a different model.
I got the 8 person Carlsbad as well as the 4 person. I am so used to these I wouldn't go anywhere else at this point. I don't know if I'm going crazy or what but in both tents there was no rod for the rain fly. Other than that everything is fine. I see a lot of complaints about it leaking and things like that but if the tent is set up properly and it's tight it won't leak. If it's not tight the rain will gather in the seams and eventually yeah it's going to leak through. The waterproof floor goes up about 6 or 8 inches on all sides so as long as it's a straight down slope and not allowed to collect anywhere the rain won't get in. I can’t believe I bought this for $50 and then they raised the price back up the next day!! It’s a legit Coleman darkroom tent with all the stuff. The stakes and that are cheap and should be upgraded before use. I’m treating mine with a water repellent spray just for belts and suspenders. I haven’t been on my trip yet but I will update if there are any issues. Great product smokin price!At 14 pounds this is NOT a “backpacking tent”, but great for car camping, campgrounds or festivals.
