I really wanted to love Color Wow Dream Coat. I use most products in their line and have been an Ambassador in the past. However, Dream Coat fell short for me. I received the $12 travel size Dream Coat spray for free with a Sephora order and used it following a wash with Color Wow shampoo and conditioner. At the time I used this product, my hair was down past my shoulder blades in the back. It took the entire bottle to modestly coat the mid-lengths and ends of my hair. It would have taken much more product to fully saturate ALL my hair with this product to the degree I have now learned is needed to make this product work to maximum efficiency. I found using this product did give my hair a lot of shine and cut drying time for at least three washes. I did not get the ... MoreI really wanted to love Color Wow Dream Coat. I found using this product did give my hair a lot of shine and cut drying time for at least three washes. I did not get the maximum gloss and frizz protection or humidity lock seen in advertisements. I also found my hair felt rough and knotted very easily in the days after using this product. It also left any split ends visible and furrowed. I have seen glowing reviews for this product; including one from a trusted friend of mine whose opinion I value highly. I have come to the conclusion I did not have enough product to use it effectively with this travel size when my thick, coarse hair hit at the mid-back length. I do plan to purchase this product in the future and try it again to see if I am able to attain better results as it is now shorter and the expense to utilize this product would not be as extreme. I will review my experience at that time and provide photos. This product is available at Sephora as well as on the brand website in three sizes. The price range varies from $12-50+. It is more expensive than many other humidity and shine products on the market. However, those who love it swear by it. I recommend purchasing it at Sephora and utilizing their generous return policy in the event this product does not work well for you.

I usually follow up with the Mist-Ical Shine Spray (also an AMAZING product) but this time I didn't and it STILL looks and feels so soft! The ONLY reason I put 4 stars is becahse the price. It's a teeeeeny bit ridiculous, but obviously worth it or else I wouldn't keep buying it. Hair Chemist has a dupe at Sally Beauty that is almost HALF the price (and 2 more oz) However, its scent is heavier and it is ever-so-slightly not as good in performance, but a great buy if you can't come to terms spending $30 a month on this stuff. Dream Coat's scent is very mild, like a mix of water and chamomile tea. Hair Chemist smells nice, but most definitely a stronger scent. I would show you MY hair, but my partner's transformation is way, way more drastic, clearly. It completely changes his hair. Also, it says it lasts through 3 shampoos? I don't trust that lol. AND try not to use extra products or a conditioner that leaves a film, otherwise the color wow will just slip off. P.s. Even in KY summer weather after the rain (which is like walking into a SAUNA) his hair refuses to frizz! THAT is amazing.

Does what it claims but…

Let me start by saying this is a great product however there is a but… When worked into wet hair & then activated by heat, which in my case is normally a hair dry with my dyson air wrap & closely followed by either the curling tool on the air wrap or my GHD straighteners depending on the days hair goals. The product really brings my hair to life… for the day, max two days. It does leave my hair less frizzy (my GHD’s do that too mind you!) & the shine it gives my hair is stunning, I’ve had many compliments however I am one of those lucky humans who only normally needs to wash their hair once a week. This product does however make my hair appear increasingly greasy. This product does however make my hair appear increasingly greasy. Sometimes I can get away with using it & not washing my hair until day three after use but I often find that by the night of day two my hair looks greasy. Perhaps I am over doing it? I am not sure. I have tried using more, tried using less but it always seems the same. So I think it’s one of those products I will whip out on the day of an important event to make my hair pop but not one I will use religiously because well I’m lazy when it comes to my hair & unless my scalp psoriasis is having a flare up I do not wish to be washing my hair every other day. Even if the shine almost…almost makes it worth it. So for that reason I have given three stars. If I didn’t have the grease issue then it would be five stars hands down. Also let me clarify it makes my hair look greasy but it doesn’t feel greasy actually it feels sleek & smooth. That’s the sad part.

I tried SO hard to like this, but it does nothing
21 May 2022

I just wanted to preface this by saying I have relatively straight, very fine hair with tiny frizzes that make my hair not very shiny, and minimal heat damage. It’s super manageable, I can make it ultra sleek with a straightener and curly within half an hour. However, I wanted to get something that would let me get ultra sleek with just a blow dryer, and ideally just less damage. Listen, I watched a plethora of videos to use this product. I’ve given it a shot three different times. I sectioned my relatively thin hair, drowned my head in the product, dried with the highest heat settings on my Dyson, applied firm pressure with a rounded comb, and my hair is STILL filled with frizzies. I’ve tried it starting with wet hair, damp hair and nearly dried hair, each time using a ton of product. I’d say starting with wet hair got me closest to not having frizzies, but using a hair straightener still gets you substantially better results. For $5 worth of product being poured into your head each time (assuming you’re like me with thin hair) I expected at least 90% of my frizzies fo go away. However it’s more like 40-50%, and at that point I’d rather go buy myself a coffee with the money. TL;DR, Save. Your. Money. This might work better on coarser hair? Maybe? It sounds a tad illogical but perhaps those with coarser hair are able to apply more pressure with a brush (whereas that would just break my hair off), and maybe more pressure is exactly what it needs.

Temporary shine and more split ends
31 August 2022

I have been using this product for 1.5 months now with 2 hair wash days a week. For reference, I have thin (hair density), medium-fine (hair thickness), medium porosity (hair moisture absorption/retention). It is considered long, layered, and recently dyed dark black; however, natural hair is already closer to brown black (just had bad balayage from 2 years ago that fades bottom). I use the revlon brush once a week and sometimes followed by hot tools. Prior to Dreamcoat, I was trying out multi-tasking leave ins for years like Pureology Colour Fanatic, Redken One United (top 2), It’s a 10, Ouai, Olapex 6&7, Eva NYC mane magic, and Shea moisture’s styler (top 2). My usual routine before my revlon brush would be shampoo 2x (sometimes Olapex 3 in between washes), apple cider vinegar rinse, hair mask in shower (alternating between hydration, protein, combos-based), leave-in conditioner, then Paul Mitchell’s skinny serum. I had pretty silky hair, mostly free from split ends too. I tried dreamcoat on its own after the shower then blow dried and my hair looked shiny and bouncy. Nothing different than my usual results though, other than one-less product used. But dreamcoat couldn’t compete with San Francisco’s humidity. After one shift at work (indoors, but public-transportation commute) my hair was frizzy at the roots! I was able to brush it smooth again that night and apply argan oil to my ends which made my hair look nice the next morning. However, it kept getting frizzy on the days leading to my next wash so I was applying more products closer to my roots. The buildup was getting me oily faster. I think my hair needed more moisture which I would get with the multitasking leave-in then sealed and shined with skinny serum. I also learned after 2 weeks, my hair needed more heat protectant because ends were dry and splitting. So basically, I ended up using dreamcoat 2x a week w/ heat protectant. 2 products again post-shower, but the other combos last longer w/out dryness.

Terrible!
19 January 2023

I am aghast at how much of a disappointment this product is. I came across this while searching for a new (ideally fragrance free) heat protectant to replace my old one, which is no longer available to purchase in the UK. The Dream Coat came highly recommended by a YouTuber whose content I frequently watch for product recommendations, and the fact it is also fragrance free sold me on it. I have low-maintenance, fine, straight hair which has never been colour treated, and don’t use anything aside from a blow dryer on it twice a week. While I am not in particular need of something to make my hair sleek and smooth, as it behaves quite well anyway with a minimal routine, this product looked like it would be a nice way to enhance and protect it that little bit more. ... MoreI am aghast at how much of a disappointment this product is. However, the first time I used it- following the instructions to section the hair and spray liberally to ensure even coverage, then blow dry with a round brush- it made my hair the frizziest and fluffiest I have ever seen! It also left my hair feeling dry, despite applying a leave-in conditioner a few hours prior to blow drying as I would normally; I can’t imagine how bad it would have felt had I not done this. This product quite literally did the opposite of what it claims to do! I could not have been more appalled at the result, I’m just glad I’m not going out anywhere in the next few days. It’s supposed to last 3-4 washes, so I am gritting my teeth for two weeks of embarrassment. I assume this result came about because my hair hasn’t been treated and so is not really in need of such a product, but I didn’t expect for a minute that it would have this dire of an impact. I guess at least I only bought the travel size, though I was hoping that Color Wow had a money-back guarantee so I could get a refund, but after looking into it, that doesn’t seem to be the case. Long story short, I would not recommend this to anyone who just wants to maintain their virgin hair; if you have colour treated hair, I suppose you would have more success? The numerous glowing reviews would certainly suggest so, but I am loath to recommend anyone spend their money on this if I’m being perfectly honest.

Thick , long, & low porosity hair - meh results
9 August 2022

For reference, my hair is 2a, almost waist length, low porosity, thick with average/slightly coarse density. It’s also darkest brown/natural black. Bc of its color & porosity, it is already very shiny. However, I do struggle with frizz, especially after blow drying. I was recommended this product by my stylist and was very excited to try it out based on the claims. Now, because of how my hair is, I know that no matter what it says on the bottle, I will need at least twice that amount of product. I read the reviews before buying this and knew it wouldn’t last me long. One use is about 1/4 of the full size bottle for me, at minimum. I would’ve been okay with that if it worked well, but that hasn’t been my experience. I would’ve been okay with that if it worked well, but that hasn’t been my experience. I’ve tried it twice: the first time, it did nothing, but I think it was user error — I don’t think I used enough product and I also don’t think I blow dried w/ enough tension. The second time, I used a TON of product and took a lot of time to make sure I blow dried well. It did.. a little? Right after blow drying, it was as frizzy as ever. After brushing and letting my hair cool, there was some improvement. I ended up straightening it with a bit of argan oil on the ends of my hair. The results I got: - less frizzy (still gets frizzy easily, but I can tame it with finger combing even when out and about) - silky/ gets less tangled - my straightening lasted much longer than usual Results I didn’t get: - glass hair (my hair is no shinier than usual, though it’s always pretty shiny) - lasting through shampoos - no frizz (definitely still get it, just maybe 50% less and easier to tame) I believe the hype, I honestly think it just doesn’t work as well on my hair (and with my skill level — I wouldn’t be surprised if a professional could get it to work). Based on the results I got, I’m more likely to try another product for this issue instead of repurchasing. I just don’t think it’s worth the price for the results I got & how much I had to use !

This product lives up to the hype!

I'm going to break this review up in to three sections: 1. My hair type/hair products I typically use 2. The climate that I live in 3. My experience with the product Hair type: I have hair slightly past my shoulders that is professionally color treated monthly (root touch ups) to cover grays. I style it on a nearly daily basis with at least a blow dryer, and several times a week, a curling wand. My hair has a slight wave to it naturally, and it is thick. My hair dresser says I have "good hair" I think mainly because there is plenty of it and it does what I want it to most days. It holds curl well, but if I blow it straight, it's straight. My experience with styling is that if I blow dry it immediately after getting out of the shower, it frizzes. The best compromise ... MoreI'm going to break this review up in to three sections: 1. My hair dresser says I have "good hair" I think mainly because there is plenty of it and it does what I want it to most days. It holds curl well, but if I blow it straight, it's straight. My experience with styling is that if I blow dry it immediately after getting out of the shower, it frizzes. The best compromise I've found is to towel dry out of the shower, let it air dry while I do my makeup, eat breakfast, make my bed, etc. and then blow it dry the rest of the way and style it. If I let it completely air dry, it's fluffy and frizzy. I use a mixture of drug store and salon quality products and on a normal day just use shampoo, conditioner, and hair spray if I curl it. Climate: I live in California and I'm not near the beach, so I live in a very dry climate. The only time humidity is high here is on the occasional rainy or stormy day. My experience: I used the product today for the first time. It's worth mentioning that I'm about a week away from my next hair appointment, and at this point in the month, my hair isn't usually looking or feeling it's best. (Not as smooth and shiny, just doesn't look or feel as healthy as it does the first week and a half or so after an appointment.) I followed the instructions on the bottle, so after a shampoo and conditioning in the shower, I towel dryed it. I then split my hair into about 6 large sections (2 on each side and 2 in the back) and sprayed each section 3 times (root, middle, ends.) I didn't brush my hair out at all until I'd applied the product. I then immediately blew it dry (this was different from my normal routine since as I mentioned above I typically would have let it air dry a bit,) and then used a paddle brush to blow it dry. I then let it rest a bit while I applied my makeup before going on to style it with my curling wand. WOW. Silky, shiny, soooo healthy feeling! No residue to the touch... my hair felt lightweight and as if I'd just left the salon! It styled normally and held the style normally, but with less frizz and restored shine. The bottle says one "coat" should last 3-4 washes, so I'm excited to see how it affects my hair over the course of the next week and to see if it holds up. Even if it doesn't last as long as the bottle says, I think it's worth it to at least use it for special occasions or when I really want my hair to look extra nice. Highly recommend!

ZERO STARS -TERRIBLE STUFF
14 November 2022

Thanks to the customer care agent today I’m now returning the dream coat by color wow along with its false claims. Firstly I followed the manufacturers instructions to the letter watched over by my daughter as a fully qualified hairdresser in a sought after top salon. The results were extremely disappointing. NO shine just extremely dull claggy hair which had a mind of its own which stuck out in all directions even after using GHD hairdryer and Dyson hair appliances.i contacted QVC as the color wow website states that Dream coat WATERPROOFS your hair…. Yikes, my hair looks terrible , how on earth do I get this awful stuff out of my hair if it’s now waterproofed and can’t wash it out? I contacted color wow directly who literally couldn’t care less and told me to ... MoreThanks to the customer care agent today I’m now returning the dream coat by color wow along with its false claims. I contacted color wow directly who literally couldn’t care less and told me to contact QVC ( I have screenshots of their reply as proof who are now ignoring me completely) if color wow can’t answer how you’re meant to wash waterproofed hair or explain why the product gives ZERO shine, how can QVC???? …..Buyers beware and do not use this awful bottle of *+#\?#^. Please note all photographed hair which claims to have color wow dream coat on it is photographed under extremely strong lighting to make the hair APPEAR shiny . If you search for photos of REAL customers hair, the results are not worth mentioning
