I own three pair of these and I use them exclusively for when I travel overseas, which is often. The belt doesn't have to be removed when the TSA does their thing, and I appreciate that. They compact enough to take up little space in my luggage.They have snazzy cargo pockets that I never use, but they quickly identify me to everyone as an old guy. The fabric is tougher than it looks; don't be afraid of its thinness. As they are constructed of nylon, they are quick to dry after you've been drenched or if you have to launder them in a hotel room sink.The only real gripe that I have is the *mesh* pockets. Do NOT put car keys in those pockets! One key will invariably poke through and saw the mesh open and then you will have all your coins and stuff escaping down ... I'm a woman and bought these pants in tusk and the lightest beige (which I don't see anymore) for summer field work over the women's. They are lightweight and comfortable for working long days outside in the summer. The pockets are very deep (one more zippered one would be amazing) and the belt is a nice extra. My issue is the pocket stitching is poor. I have three pairs and on each the stitching starts going on various pockets hardly a month into wear when out in the forest often. One pocket became useless and needed repair and another is on its way out.

It made the bottoms of the legs too baggy, so I sewed the 2 seams close together to about 3 quarters of the way up each leg. It needs some of the room to make sitting more comfortable. Since I am using for canoeing that is a good feature. The inside of the waist band is soft like flannel and very comfortable and has a small amount of elastic, but not too much. They are lightweight, as advertised, but will be great for all seasons but winter. And sometimes lighter weight pants look a bit sloppy and hang loose, but these pants fit great and look super nice. I wear a 36x32 and the fit was perfect. The two side pockets are very nice and large enough to be useful without making the pants look sloppy. One of the pockets even has a nice zipper for extra security. They really are very comfortable when sitting or hiking/walking. Pockets are well placed for function without being too bulky or extending outward too far. Following the advice that they can run slightly small, I ordered the same size as I do in another brand of similar pants that are a bit baggier than I prefer, and the Silver Ridge pants fit perfectly. Roomy enough for easy motion, could wear a base layer underneath if desired, but not too loose and baggy on their own. The included belt is nice quality, not sure how long the plastic "buckle" will hold up but for for now it's just fine, and the belt is plenty long enough to sew on a different type of plastic buckle if desired and ... This is the 6or 7 th pair of these paints i own.. i now have every color. They are very comfortable, durable, good looking, very stain resistant, offer so many pockets. They wash well with few to no wrinkles. The first time i wore the light tan we went for a birthday celebration. The bread served was dripping in butter and of course it dropped on the paints. I thought for sure id be ordering another pair. Well, they washed beautifully. I wear them all year long for almost any occasion. They fit great too.
Sizing of Columbia pants is confusing. I have some 30x30 Columbia pants that are too big and some that are just right. I measured these and they are in fact 30" in the waist so I exchanged for 32 waist size and they are a perfect fit. Normally Columbia 32" is too big but these, even with the extra stretch in the waist, the 30" was too small. But that being said I love these lightweight pants for summer wear. Very comfortable. I wear them everyday. 5 stars except for the non uniform sizing of Columbia pants in general.
