Look, so far this thing is awesome. But... those reviews complaining about cables?Yeah the cables are not great and it's obvious why.I had no issues with length, but the capacitors built into the wires (I assume that's what they are, as prominent review sites complain about this) makes the wire ROCK SOLID IMPOSSIBLE TO FLEX/BEND a couple cm from the end. So it's REALLY an unneccessary struggle to wire your MB (CPU was THE WORST offender, though the 24pin to the MB was so fat it really fought me trying to fit it through a Corsair 5000D cable management port. Seriously, their own case could barely handle this.)Why is it obvious? Because for ONLY $110 you can buy their premium cables. Ugh. ~ The 80 Plus Gold certification means that at around 50% load, this power supply should be 90% efficient. Ideally to achieve this efficiency rating, you should choose a power supply that is rated for double the average load of your PC. The typical range on 80 Plus rated PSUs is between 40 to 60% load for the best efficiency, with peak efficiency is typically right around 50% load. The system components dictate the total power consumption, regardless of the wattage rating of the PSU. However this is where efficiency begins to be meaningful in selecting a PSU, and a proper selection will result in savings at the meter over a lower efficiency usage or lower efficiency rated power supply. This power supply has enough overhead to meet most gaming PC or workstation demands, it should handle modern hardware configurations with ease, perfectly in most load scenarios. Many current graphics cards can range from 200 to 300+ Watts and higher peak consumption, for example an Nvidia 3080ti can peak at 350 Watts under load. If you need to get a general idea of how much wattage your system or planned build uses, Newegg offers a general voltage calculator: search [ Newegg power supply calculator ] There are more in depth voltage calculators out there, should you need to zero in on your specific needs. I was pleased with the number of cables and connectors, for example the SATA power cable has 4 connectors, which I was able to attach all 4 of my drives on one cable, without having to run a second one. I have my front panel fans running from a fan controller that I adapted to molex, along side a blu-ray drive also adapted to molex. This is so that I only have minimal cables run, for ease of management and a cleaner look. The 135mm fan is whisper soft, it even stops under low load for silent operation. The fan features Magnetic Levitation bearings that operate without physical contact, which should prevent any mechanical wear. Overall I have been very satisfied with this PSU, it has a really decent build quality and has exceeded my expectations. The ML Fan was a welcome surprise, the sleeved cables are a nice touch, and the ribbon cables tuck away nicely out of sight. The all black aesthetic matches my current build nicely. Building with a modular PSU is always a breeze, and this power supply is no exception, the build quality and attention to detail really helps this power supply stand out. 4.5 eggs.

Full disclosure Newegg sent me this Power Supply to review, as a NewEggspert. There is no bias in my reviews and as such they are honest. This will not be a long-term performance review since we are required to put the reviews up within thirty days of receiving the item. Remember this, your power supply is the heart of the computer and is the single most important piece to building a good and reliable computer. NEVER skimp and buy or take a cheap or free power supply, it can lead to unstable operation, crashes, loss of valuable components, or even fire. I am a longtime supporter of EVGA power supplies and other Corsair peripherals lets see if this power supply can hold up better than the last one, I received, but in all fairness, it was a gaming computer the old one ... MoreFull disclosure Newegg sent me this Power Supply to review, as a NewEggspert. I am a longtime supporter of EVGA power supplies and other Corsair peripherals lets see if this power supply can hold up better than the last one, I received, but in all fairness, it was a gaming computer the old one was in. This power supply comes with a 10-year warranty which is about how long you would expect it to last. Now let me tell you about Corsair and my warranty experiences, so far, they have been one of the best I have encountered in a very long time. I have had a couple of warranty claims with them In all three instances, Corsair was professional and very accommodating, and I think it is important for people to remember to treat people on the other end of the phone with some respect and you will get better service. Before I go too far, this is a note to Corsair, Power Supplies in general need more innovations and as a power gamer I want to be able to monitor my power supply and be able to tell when a rail is failing under load. Why not add in diagnostic chip that can report voltages to the corsair iCue via USB. PLEASE, eliminate the sharp plastic corners on the connectors, that are becoming too common to power supplies as they are dangerous and cut deeply! Lastly, label the connector ends better for which side goes to the power supply end and what side plugs into the equipment side, you cannot assume the average builder knows what end goes where. Or clearly state that it doesnt matter. I ran my 1080TI at full power load drawing nearly 400watts for hours and had no issues with benchmarking the system or playing any games. Everything ran fine and the power supply was whisper quiet even when the fan was on cooling the PS. To all users, READ the directions there is very good information in them, like NEVER mix cables from different power supplies! Testing of the RM850 has gone very well as it passed my clean power test when putting it on my oscilloscope, which is one of my most important requirements. I also recommend to anyone that has expensive computers to put them on a CyberPower UPS, I have had great luck with them (Different company than CyberPower Computers) Having clean (noise free) reliable power (always at the needed voltage) makes electronics last years longer than they would plugged straight into an outlet.

I bought this to put in a prebuilt computer to upgrade the video card from a 3060 to a Radeon 7900XT. The box was damaged so we recorded the unboxing incase we needed to return the power supply. We changed drivers and started gaming on COD MW2 with maximum settings turned on. About every fifth game we would get the blue screen of death and the computer would restart. We downloaded software to show us critical faults and ICue to show the usage. Critical fault was power issue with video card and the card was only using about 80%. Changed the card back to the 3060 and no issues at all. I returned the 7900XT and kept this power supply in the computer still pushing the 3060 with no issues.
This thing is great. As someone with almost no building experience, it was a pretty simple installation. You can pick and choose which cables you want to put in, and it comes with TONS of different cables so you can really go wild. There's not much to say about performance... It's a power supply. That's it.The most notable thing I'd mention is that the PSU is a 0 RPM supply, meaning that it's dead silent. Obviously if you put your ear to it, you hear some hums, but upon replacing the power supply of my old prebuilt, it went from a jet fan to a silent killer INSTANTLY.There are also heat-resistant zip ties, and the cables all come in sleeves, so it looks great for a standard black build (or black and white if that's what you're going for).

There isn't much to say about this PSU.Pros1. Clean power delivery.2. Japanese-manufactured parts.3. 10-year warranty.Cons1. The PCIe cables have daisy chain connectors on them and look hideous when plugged into the GPU.I may get some PCIe cables without the daisy chain eventually to clean up my build a little bit, but honestly, this thing is probably going in my next 2 builds after this one because it'll still be under warranty until then. Worth the extra price since I'll be skipping buying one entirely on my next build. Woot.

Absolutely reliable! I have had some bad power supplies as my electrical feed to my home is not very good. We have a lot of fluctuations and for some reason it kills power supplies. I started using Corsair power supplies exclusively for my computer builds and they always work without compromise. I prefer the gold build units from 750 to 850 in size which is pretty much all that I need for modern gaming systems. What i lobe about them is the great number of cables that come with the PS which always means that I have cables for any type of build. They are first rate and easily handle the load without heating up or failing. Quality components make a real difference and you will never be sorry with Corsair products from a quality point of view.
