This bucket was used at a group activity for Thanksgiving as we used it to make our own clay bowls. The children ranged from 4 years old to 13 years old. The air dry clay was very much able to be shared decently between eight kids which is wonderful. The clay was easy for them to work and to maneuver with ease of the strength that they had. The projects took a little over 24 hours to dry but once dried were very firm and looked wonderful. This product is wonderful for use in situations where you do not have access to an oven or a kiln. The cleanup was a cinch with the clay. I do however recommend putting parchment paper or wax paper down as you work on your project not to stain the tables.

My original purchase of this product was due to it being on sale and was a fairly impulse buy, but it has jumpstarted a newfound love of a brand new hobby! It's easy to use both with and without tools, an incredibly versatile and beginner friendly clay with a smooth texture. My singular, negative qualm about this product is that when it dries (if not sealed or baked), it will begin to immediately flake within a few days. Unfortunately, upon further research, I did learn that this product isn't suited for long-term durability, however. Within 1-2 years, it will fully deteriorate into basically sand. With that being said, I still would not let it deter you from purchasing it. It's still wonderful to test run projects, get yourself into the hobby, or even have fun with ... MoreMy original purchase of this product was due to it being on sale and was a fairly impulse buy, but it has jumpstarted a newfound love of a brand new hobby! This was the most fun me and my daughters had creating with this stuff. It’s so light and fluffy and easy to mold and shape. I like how the white color makes it easy to paint with any color after it dries very quickly to add some character to our creatures we created. We like to work in clay and usually we have to use a kiln to fire the clay and use glazes. This makes it easier and way safer and we can take this with us anywhere. Over the summer we wanted to try all sorts of fun art and craft things so we did this. We used it to make fun things and got creative adding things like little seashells. And made special stuff for grandma and grandpa and aunts and uncles. It’s sure was fun. I highly recommend if you have kids that like to create and use clay this is fun ... MoreThis was the most fun me and my daughters had creating with this stuff. And the ci Rainer it comes with is great for storing the clay when you are not using it!

No matter what I have tried, cracking is seemingly unavoidable. However, I have found that if I add water to the clay until it's slightly softer than a Play-Doh consistency, it REALLY helps with the severity of the cracks. I'm wondering what adding some oil or maybe even glue would do...Anyway, I've been going in and filling the cracks as my projects dry. They're looking great. I can also wet my finger and smooth things out nicely with what I'm working on. As soon as everything is bone dry, I'll be spraying protective coatings on my project pieces. If anyone cares—I'm working on 3D paw prints of my old gal. I took her prints in salt dough (took multiple of each paw for options/in case one or two ever break in life), baked them, let them cool overnight, and used ... MoreNo matter what I have tried, cracking is seemingly unavoidable. I took her prints in salt dough (took multiple of each paw for options/in case one or two ever break in life), baked them, let them cool overnight, and used that to press some clay into. I tried using as minimal clay as possible with some, and others I kept thicker. All have turned out absolutely beautiful so far. Again I do have to watch the cracks and tend to them, but it's worth it. Touching them makes me know I'll always be able to hold her hand no matter how far away we are from each other. Thanks for that, Crayola. I really do appreciate it.
I experimented with this to try and make some fake bake cookies. You can condition it, roll it out, and cut it relatively easy. But it is fragile. I tried to mix in glue, but made no difference. I painted the 'cookies' but they still snap apart if handled like anything less than fragile glass. I worked my way through one tub since it was already open but the second one went back. Supposedly other brands are more durable so we'll see.great price point to experiment with but that's about it. I did discover that the Model Magic line - also by crayons - has a bit more versatility than this.
I bought this Air-Dry clay to make a turtle named Lottie. It was very easy to use and it helped a ton to brush a little bit of water onto her leg that fell off when I was trying to eat a popsicle and drive and hit the breaks a little too hard and Lottie went flying. Popsicles in Texas are so hard to eat in time. So much meltage. Anyway, we did emergency surgery on her legs and she made a full recovery. The next day I painted her, gave her bangs, a headband, and some homemade Pom Poms. She tries really hard to swim and cheer, but her butterfingers make it tough! She hopes to attend Juilliard in the fall and all she wants is world peace! Gooooooo Lottie!
I’m been thinking about getting into pottery and wanted a way to try it without spending a bunch of money. I found this and it was a great beginner clay to see if I liked pottery. What’s nice is that it resembles clay enough so you can perfect your skills before getting into something like ceramics or stoneware. It’s also great if you don’t have access to a kiln as it doesn’t need to be heat treated. The downside is that this stuff is very fragile. While I understand that it will never compare to true pottery, it’s still not fun when you put a lot of effort into something and it breaks before it’s even finished drying. I know some of this comes from user error, but even with some experience, it’s much more fragile than the real deal. It also sucks that this can’t ... MoreI’m been thinking about getting into pottery and wanted a way to try it without spending a bunch of money. I am an artist and I tried this product for a project with my nieces and nephews. This product is good, but you have to have patience. In order for it to work, you really need to have some basic knowledge for sculpting. It is great for teaching sculpting. Basic sculpting. Trial and error teaching. You have to have a structure to support the clay. Like an armature. For this clay, and practice, keep the project small. Add small, small, amounts of clay at a time and let your project rest between layers. Keep damp, not dripping wet, but damp paper towels to cover the sculpture in between working on it and when complete. You have to let it dry slowly. It's practice. Practice makes , well, it makes practice. The price is not bad compared to high quality clay, so take time ... MoreI am an artist and I tried this product for a project with my nieces and nephews. This product was fun to play with, but the color gets everywhere. We did find that we were able to get it out of most things using dawn, power wash and scrubbing, but it really is something to use wearing gloves. I feel like this would be better in a set where you are given a couple of different colors, and can create or build certain specific things like a set that you can create a clay volcano where it has grey, red and yellow. This product is more of a serious hobby type art rather than kids fun art. What I mean by that is it’s kind of a cool way to keep older kids interested in Crayola even though it is classic and timeless. I feel like it is something that would be fun for Kids ages 6-14.Commitment and knowing what to make or create was hard without being able ... MoreThis product was fun to play with, but the color gets everywhere. Maybe including a scoop or something to get it out. It gets under the finger nails and all over trying to get it out of the container. Also the container lid was hard to get off.
I use the Crayola Model Magic foam clay for sooo many things like fake food, I use it in molds to make lightweight embellishments for wood signs, etc... So when Walmart was out of my usual air dry clay brand (I needed a heavier air dry clay than the foam one), I ordered this thinking it would be on the same quality as the model magic.... Wowwww was I WRONG!I used my silicone trim shapes mold to make a clay trim for a huge round frame I picked up at thrift %26 the form came out great, I glued it to the frame, everything looked perfect.... Until the next day after it dried... It cracked every 1/4 inch and not just little cracks either. It cracked and separated with big gaps between cracks. It was one whole piece when I put it aside to dry that turned into a piece ... MoreI use the Crayola Model Magic foam clay for sooo many things like fake food, I use it in molds to make lightweight embellishments for wood signs, etc... It was one whole piece when I put it aside to dry that turned into a piece every 1/4 inch! I was so shocked, lol, I never had happen before, not with DAP air dry clay, not with Sculpty air dry clay %26 not with model magic either. The clay itself is very moist, easy to work with, not at all dry... This is why I was quite surprised when it cracked and shrunk sooo much! I had to go to Michaels craft store to get the DAP air dry clay %26 fill in the gaps, using water and clay tools to fill in all the cracks and gaps. Thankfully I was able to match the trim design easily %26 saved my very large project.I would absolutely not recommend this particular clay for molds or detailed work. Maybe for kids making something large, but even then, I'd be afraid the project would crack while drying and have weak spots and easily break. I ended up leaving the tub of clay in my apartment bldg foyer for one of my neighbors with young kids, but I did write a note saying it does crack for small designs. Someone ended up grabbing it, probably for their kids to play with. But for work you're selling, I'd not use this even for trim, lol!
