No idea why these mats are getting such poor reviews as I've had and used mine for over a year for multiple projects, several of which were large, layered paper projects. But have also used for vinyl. Everything sticks well, but not too much. I recently received several of the green standard mats and lost several beautiful pieces of cardstock trying to remove. I'll replace when needed with the same Blue lightgrip mat. btw, why on earth is someone posting a negative review for their own ignorance in trying to use this as a cutting mat?

Go to Dollar Store and purchase a spray bottle and a cleaning product called Totally Awesome Lemon” (not the “Totally Awesome Orange” - it doesn’t clean as well). Fill your spray bottle with UNDILUTED Awesome Lemon and spray the entire surface of your mats. Use your weeding scraper to LIGHTLY scrape the entire surface of your mat, scraping to the edges. Wipe clean with paper towels, (not cloth) and let air dry. You’ll be amazed how sticky your mats are again! I do this after every 2-3 uses of my mats, and I also clean the plastic covers to keep them dust and paper-crumb-free. Your mats will last soooo much longer, just be sure to scrape lightly. Woohoo!

I purchased my first machine this past November. Immediately I ordered a second mat. 2 weeks in running with my second mat, it jammed in my machine halfway through a cut. I had to physically unjam and pull the mat out of my machine. The top corner permanently crinkled by the jam. To prevent another jam, and damaging my machine, I had to cut the crinkled corner out. Now the mat wont load from that corner in the lead position. I have to enter the mat upside down. In addition to this drama, a week later, the mat began to crack. No response from anyone to make it right.

This is an awesome light grip for the joy! It’s a great mat. I just got into using it and have not found a problem at all. I was afraid my item would get too stuck! It’s best to roll the mat off instead of peeling up your items because they will curl.
I have been using the cricut standard mat for 9 years now, and it works great. The only thing that I don't like, it at first it is so sticky that it isn't paper friendly. It takes some patience removing the paper but because I do use it all the time, it doesn't take very long to get it not as sticky, but it does work great for me. Also, when I say I use it all the time, I use basically everyday and I don't even know how many times I use it everyday. There is no way I could keep a tally. Ever since I got the explore air 2, I really get full use of my mat. I'm sorry that the other people on here have had unfortunate experiences with the standard grip mat, but I have never had any major issues with the mat. Only compatible with the cricut joy machine. Works great though, equivalent to the quality of other standard grip mats for the larger machines. Works good for cardstalk paper; vinyl; heat transfer/iron on. I do not recommend for copy paper thickness paper or lighter. The mat is too grippy for it and makes it a little difficult to get off without tearing the paper. Still works for it, just not the best option. As with all cricut mats, they do lose their grippiness after lots of use, but with the right care and maintenance you can get a fairly okay lifespan out of it. It all depends though on how much you use the mat and the maintenance.
Like other reviewers have noted these mats no longer have a grip that last past a few hours of use. I have been using these mats for over 10 years. Most mats would last me weeks of daily use, now I do not get a full day before paper is sliding off and jamming the machines. VERY frustrating considering they have also raised to price so much. Looking at other options for mats now.
If like me you have been using the bigger rolls of vinyl and cutting them to fit your Cricut Joy, then this is an excellent item for your toolbox.So long as you are cutting the width of vinyl correctly (14mm ... although 13.9 fits nicer), then this grip mat with help you keep things in place while the cut is in progress. No more ripple effect if the vinyl gets caught on one side while cut is underway, which sometimes can cause the vinyl to come away from the backing material.
I agree with all the comments about the mats not lasting very long. It's just like when you buy a printer and are then gouged for expensive ink cartridges. If Cricut can sell us 30 for $139.99, so only a little over $4.33 each, the markup must be tremendous. I have spent hours and money trying to clean and resticky the mats. I've used the totally awesome, I've bought the glue sticks, spray adhesive and most other things ladies have posted. Either doesn't work or, as with the spray adhesive, works too well and I ruin another mat trying to scrape the paper off. I may end up trying a machine that doesn't require mats. I think Cricut should at least offer a deep discount to Cricut Access subscribers.
I made a mistake in using a glitter paper where the glitter adhered to the machine and mat. A huge mess, A survey of You Tube videos and I followed the instructions of using Goo Gone Gel to clean the mat and restore the tack with Loctite 100 Lite ( a little challenging to find but did so at Joanne's).The mat cleaned up beautifully and the tack was restored to its original strength. I do keep the dust cover on the mat and, admittedly, am not a daily user. Still, the performance of the mat is unchanged from that first rookie error.What seems to be missing from previous reviews is that they sprayed their mat with a light adhesive. Granted, the tack shouldn't disappear after a few uses - and that wasn't my experience before Glitter Gate - but it can be restored.
