Crucial Memory to update mid-2011 iMac

I purchased the Crucial Technology 16GB (2x8GB) 204-pin SODIMM DDR3 PC3-10600 to upgrade my mid-2011 iMac. Works great. Very tight fit, must use some force to install. I was afraid of damaging the cards so I didn't press firmly enough to properly seat the cards. It will be obvious once they seat. If they don't snap into place they are not properly seated.

Don't be offended by 3 stars. The memory works fine and available at reasonable market price. If you have a few years old PC, I recommend to max out the memory capacity rather than buying a new computer. I have 2011 mac mini with 2.3 Ghz i5. I upgraded from 5GB to 12GB by replacing a 1GB to a 8GB. I use the computer for casual uses (net and mail stuff) and the operations became smoother after the upgrade. Activity monitor indicates just mail and net surf can consume nearly 10GB of memory nowadays.

I regularly use programs like Adobe Photoshop and Premiere. At least I tried to - before this memory upgrade on my Early 2011 MacBook Pro. I couldn't move layers in Photoshop with my previous MBP memory. The program would crash the moment I tried to move a layer, so unfortunately I learned to work with. After the update, I'm just feeling stupid cause I should have done the upgrade years ago. Don't debate it. It made me like my laptop again.

Great product!
13 March 2018

My 7-year-old Mac was not performing well due to not having enough memory. I'd only had 4GB installed when I bought it, so it wasn't too hard to figure out. Fortunately, this problem was easily resolved by adding two Crucial 4GB memory cards, which were very easily installed (thank you, Crucial, for your excellent video and printable step-by-step guides). Crucial also was able to tell me exactly which memory cards I needed and delivered them to my door within days. So now with the full 16GB memory, my Mac runs like new. Thanks Crucial!

Packed safely, as advertised, great value

Shipped safely, product as advertised. :) Product holder also has a third storage slot the kit doesn't use, for storing additional memory.

Review of (8 GB 1333 MHz DDR3) Performance
9 November 2015

I use Neat Receipts and iPhoto. These applications require more memory.I was expecting faster response time. Not sure if this would happen with even more memory. I have been tagging my photos with iPhoto Tagger. It takes several days to tag a library containing 44,000 plus images. My Mac ejects my external drive containing my photos and then the whol library is missing. I have had to start tagging all over again. This still happens with more memory, and it could be an operating system or sofware problem instead.

Good Points: I'm sure that this product would be perfectly satisfactory for most purposes.Improvement Points: I ordered this product to augment the memeory in a HP ProBook 4720s laptop from 4 to 8 GB. I discovered that neither this product or the Kingston equivalent proved compatible with the pernickety demands of the particular computer. I resolved the problem eventually with Samsung modules from another supplier.

Warning for quality issues
22 January 2022

Unfortunately, upgrading my MacBook Pro did not work, while older RAM still allow the system to run. Tests done, several check. Seems to have been just unlucky. Crucial offers lifetime warranty - you have 30 days here for returns. That says it all. Read the fine prints.

not compatible
1 June 2015

Crucial claimed items were compatible but in fact weren't. Followed instructions for installation and they initially worked. But later computer wouldn't boot. (computer is an iMac) A check with Apple for a solution found that these are not compatible. Removing them fixed the problem. To verify I reinstalled and had the same problem. Further investigation found that others are reporting this same problem. But thumbs up to Crucial for taking them back. Items most likely are not defective but simply incompatible with my system.
