My gaming tower originally came with just a 512gb SSD and a 1TB spinning drive. Since then, I have added another 1TB SSD but I really don't like using the spinning drive so I was looking to add some more space to hold all my games. Everything runs well and I have not had a single hiccup in the week that it has been installed and running. While I wish I could say that I could tell that everything was running a lot faster, I don't think any of my games quite task my system enough yet to see that. I have posted the benchmarks for both my 1TB and the Crucial T700 2TB drives.I'm definitely going to make sure that the motherboard in my next tower has Gen 5x4 slots so I can see this drive REALLY show its power. As it is, it is a great drive, with a large capacity, and room to continue to stretch its legs in a more powerful system. It's isn't cheap but when has getting the best components for your PC been cheap?

I have this tendency to go all out with storage speed. From the first time I built a PC I have always had at least one RAID 0 array to load my OS and games on. On my last build I had installed 2x nVME PCIE gen 4 drives in raid 0 that netted me about 10 GBps.To say that this single drive is fast is really an understatement. It was really easy to install in my gaming computer as well.The heatsink also gives me piece of mind from long gaming sessions that the hard drive is not going to overheat. After optimizing the drive the system booted almost instantly and things just felt faster. Games and graphic rendering was noticeably faster that it was before. Even during long operations such as copying 100GB of data back and for the drive did not throttle down. This drive does require a thermal solution so don’t think about installing this in a laptop and most game consoles don’t have the room for the heatsink requirement.

I am glad I picked up Crucial T700 2TB Internal SSD PCIe Gen 5x4 NVMe with Heatsink to upgrade my Sony PlayStation 5 hard drive. So the upgrade process itself was very easy. If you don't feel very confident about it, I would recommend to watch a YouTube video and see how it is done step by step (just do a little search). It will literally take you about 7 minutes. I decided to do a fresh install on a brand new Sony PlayStation 5 and followed the steps outlined in the video.It was good to know that Crucial added a premium heatsink to this drive as it will definitely keep this drive running for a long time. And the Crucial delivers...if you're motherboard doesn't limit you.Compared to other NVMe drives I've owned, the T700 has a massive heatsink and it's justified because this drive puts out some heat. The downside is that you may be limited to where you can put the drive and hope that you're Gen 5 slot isn't covered by a huge GPU.Calling the T700 fast isn't an exaggeration. The downside is that you may be limited to where you can put the drive and hope that you're Gen 5 slot isn't covered by a huge GPU.Calling the T700 fast isn't an exaggeration. Hitting over 10GB/s in sequential read is crazy! Writes fell just under in the 9GB/s range. Although the speeds were blazing, there wasn't much realworld improvements in game loading over a Gen 4 or even a Gen 3. Without putting a watch to the load times I wouldn't be able to really tell which drive the game is loaded on.Now here the huge downside for motherboard. When using the Gen 5 slot, it reduces my GPU's slot to 8x. That's a dramatic hit to FPS. While I really want to use the drive at its top speed, I'd rather not lose my GPU's top speed even more. Check your manual to see if the limit hits your motherboard also.The other issue is heat. It gets hot. If you don't have adequate airflow you might have to starting thinking about switching to an AOI or leaving the case open. I leave my case open so I didn't have any issues with other periph temps increasing, but you need to consider the extra heat load if you purchase this drive.
