Beware Apple users

I bought this thinking it's a dumb monitor and should work with any device, including my MacBook, but beware that the Dell U2718Q is not official supported by Dell for any Apple products and I had several problems using with a MacBook. The HDMI, Mini DisplayPort and DisplayPort will fail (saying no signal detected) after working fine for several weeks as reported by many Apple users. There is a workaround to fix this for a couple more weeks by unplugging all power and data cables from the monitor and holding the power button for 10 seconds (I presume this hard resets the firmware), but expect the problem to re-occur. I would advise Apple users to steer clear of any Dell monitor unless it supports Apple gear and/or wait until they provide a firmware update for these ... MoreI bought this thinking it's a dumb monitor and should work with any device, including my MacBook, but beware that the Dell U2718Q is not official supported by Dell for any Apple products and I had several problems using with a MacBook. Otherwise this monitor is incredible, it has great 4K picture quality, great colours and looks beautiful with the thin bezels. The semi-matte finish is great for minimising glare without losing class. I purchased two of these 27"s for a dual-setup but they are almost too large for one desk. 3 stars purely because of the Apple issues.

Crisp colors, dense pixels. Beware the glare shade

Super crisp. Figured the little antennae that pops out of nowhere and wiggles around would be gimmicky but whatever it's doing appears to work because the colors on this thing are crispy. Be aware that the 3-sided sun shade accessory doesn't allow you to put double monitors, or more, together tightly because the top corner of the vertical portion would bump. Don't think the product designers considered this. I'm now forced to whip out some shears and start hacking at them.

I would have given this 5 stars. Nothing wrong with the monitor, it is brilliant! Love the Adobe RGB screen profile for my photo editing. But it is a shame that Dell do not have a deal with Calman so you can download their calibration software at a discounted price (photography is a hobby for me), similar to ColorChecker Display PRO software. I calibrate with the OSD menu then reduce the brightness to match my NEC PA271W which I calibrate using Spectraview software. Great monitor (half the price of a similar spec Eizo), pity about the software. Freight was fast.

Disappointing display with uneven background
15 August 2020

In contrast to many excellent Dell displays we have used professionally and privately over the years, this one underperforms significantly. When displaying a white background, there is an uneven hue particularly when viewing from a slight angle. On the left, everything turns blue-greenish. On the right, everything turns red-pinkish. Some shadows can be seen on the perimeter. When displaying a black background in a darker room, there are multiple lighter areas around the perimeter. This uneven background negates the whole point of color calibration and makes accurate photographic and design work difficult despite nice 4k resolution. I complained and received a refurbished replacement unit only to see that it had the same issues. Kudos to Dell for easy and expeditious ... MoreIn contrast to many excellent Dell displays we have used professionally and privately over the years, this one underperforms significantly. I need a 4k display that shows an even background. And I found one at a much lower price in a local store.

Expensive monitor with cheap parts and poor image quality.

Disappointing screen finish and color gamet. Screen is plastic - a high end monitor should be glass. A major step down from the UP2715K which had a beautiful glass screen and exceptional backlight that more faithfully reproduced highly saturated colors. Beware, monitor is not HDR or WCG. Calibration hardware sounds like it is made of cheap plastic and will break quickly. Sometimes the display looses signal and flashes. USB hub shows up as no enumerating in windows (had this problem with the UP2715K as well seems to be a common problem with dell monitors). The sharpness setting actually puts incorrect colors on your screen (looks like JPG compression) if you turn it above 50%. Screen is somewhat blurry at 50%.I was hoping for a lower resolution version of the ... MoreDisappointing screen finish and color gamet. Screen is plastic - a high end monitor should be glass. Great for photographers, not for retouchers
23 June 2022

This monitor does a lot of things very well. It has that built-in colorimeter for calibration and does not need to be connected to a computer for it to automatically calibrate itself. The software that runs it is okay, I have some minor quibbles with it that can make it frustrating or confusing, I hope that can be ironed out over time. I would think this monitor would be ideal for photographers with laptops, since it can charge the laptop and be used as a second screen. But, I'm a retoucher, and from my viewpoint, this monitor doesn't cut it. If I have two identical images up in two areas of the screen, they can appear different, so doing visual matches are tricky. I can see one side of the screen lighter and more cyan, and the other darker and reddish. It is ... MoreThis monitor does a lot of things very well. For the price, I would have thought this would have been more under control. I have several retouchers working on these and they all have the same complaint. For some, the features this screen offers will make it just the right tool. For serious retouching, get the Eizo (if you can find one!)

In this category, it beats all other monitors hands down

This has been a fantastic monitor. I did a lot of research of similar products at this level of quality, and settled on this one because I've had such good luck with the brand over time. I hesitated about the price, but given the options in this category via the multitude of manufacturers out there, I felt it was the best option for me. I'm not a pixel peeper, so I don't bother digging too deep into the tech specs, I'm more about the experience of using it for its intended purpose.I am a photographer by trade, so color accuracy and image detail is all that really matters to me. There is something special about this monitor, the way it displays colors, the depth of tones and shadows and the overall feeling that everything is just right from the time I open an image to its completion as I confidently send the image off to the client.I appreciate the built in calibration unit, and the assurance that what I am seeing on the monitor is just as it should be.When I first set up the monitor, it took me a bit of practice getting used to moving my line of sight to different areas of the panel because if you look at it from an angle, to area farthest from your line of sight has a slight magenta tint. You simply have to shift your head toward that end and the tint eases.Overall, this monitor has been such a joy to work with.

Lives up to the name Ultrasharp, but lacks contrast, has bleed-through
19 May 2023

Lives up to the name Ultrasharp in that it does great at being 'sharp', but, I cannot say the panel impresses outside of that. Colors are washed out, even with running the built-in calibration. Seems the contrast is not as deep as advertised as the blacks are more medium-dark grey than black, no matter which profile is selected or if you turn the brightness way down. I ended up sending it back because I have another Dell monitor that does this better, is 5" larger, and cost half as much; just it's noted as a 'gaming' monitor and I was aiming to have this professional monitor be for my wife who is a graphics designer. Also has a small amount of backlight bleed-through along the bottom edge.

My favorite monitor ever!
26 March 2024

By far the best monitor I have ever owned! The detail and the color is outstanding! Photo editing is sooooo much better when using this monitor. Much easier to see details that would have been missed on most other monitors. My eyes do not get as tired using this monitor. Thanks for a great product!

My previous monitor was a 32" and I was concerned about loosing 5" of screen real estate. In retrospect it didn't matter one bit. The Dell UltraSharp 27 4k Premier Color monitor was a very good purchase for our Long Island based boutique organic soap and cosmetic company. I needed an outstanding monitor to provide color accuracy for our website both in terms of photography and videography needs. This morning offers both the Adobe and sRGB color spectrum and the colors are vivid and accurate. Dynamic contrast, reproduction and construction are excellent. The mat finish is helpful in reducing glare without impeding color accuracy. Finally Dell's warrantee is one of the best in this product space.
