Hold the knife while you do this.Problem 2. I saw complaints that the steam wand was too loud. I'm not trying to gaslight you, maybe you did get a product with an issue to it. But my perspective is this steam wand is perfect. You just might not know how to use it.Solution 2. Basically the issue is you need to think of it as you are building up pressure in the pitcher like a tea kettle, and you have to relieve that pressure by making the steam wand hiss at the beginning to take pressure out of the steam being introduced to the milk. Then you need to keep just the first inch or so in the milk in the pitcher (right where there's a line on the tip so you can unscrew and deep clean it). You want to make sure not only you're not too deep, but also if you were to imagine 2 perpendicular lines like a cross over your pitcher, I like to keep my milk wand in the top left section of that imaginary spot. Right there with a tilt of about 45 degrees is where I find my milk vortex and after my initial hissing at the beginning there is not much sound.Problem 3. People were upset that when you close the portafilter of espresso in the machine after you pack it, the machine moves easily as you try to shut that. This is because if you made the machine too heavy people wouldn't be able to easily move it, and I bet there would be a lot of complaints about that. It would definitely inconvenience me on the clean up.Solution 3. As I am placing my packed portafilter into the espresso machine, I put my other arm on top of the machine as I close it to hold it down, like I'm posing for my old school photos.

Every time I am putting the portafilter into it, I had to held down with my body weight so the machine doesn't move while turning portafilter.Also the drip tray is not ideal due to the height. With the drip tray, it's very hard to put a scale on drip tray for measurements.When switch to steam mode. sometimes steam mode seems to work only brief 5 seconds then it dies out. Or when the steam mode had been activated, if I haven't got to steaming the milk, the timer automatically switch back to coffee mode and started to cool down already. For those not used to making their own espresso this machine is perfect for beginners. First off choose your basket size and measure in your coffee of choice. Tamp the coffee down in the basket and insert into the machine. Punch that button for the shot you are looking to make and prepare to be blown away at the perfect espresso in your cup. It really is that simple, if you want to get deeper into what you can do with the machine De'longhi has a great youtube page with a lot of helpful videos on getting started.So after using this espresso machine for several days now I can tell you I am impressed as always with De’Longhi, yes this is not my first De’Longhi machine and it definitely won’t be my last. The Dedica Arte is going to get a lot of use whenever we want a fast quality espresso or latte without getting into the larger machine we have. I apologize for not including pictures of one of the many espressos I have made with it now but for whatever reason they did not save but I digress. I love it and you will too!

I had purchased a canister of Illy espresso in anticipation of when I actually decided to use this. Because it was late, I decided to test it out in the am.I powered the machine on and followed the instructions int he simplified manual which made the whole process very simple to someone who was scared making espresso would be very difficult. I used the single espresso filter, added my espresso and used the tamper to level and compress it. Put it in the machine, turned it, placed my cup and pressed the button! Holy cow, real espresso and so much better than Nespresso and much less waste.I used the steamer function which was also really easy to figure out, but it works a lot better with whole milk than it does the skim milk I had in the fridge.It's been a few days and I've even sold my husband on this and I think it's going to have a permanent spot it our very tiny kitchen. You can see it next to our Nespresso and can agree its quite small!
I just firstly want to respectfully say to all the reviews saying you can not froth the milk properly with this machine, you are the problem, not the machine. Patience and technique will see a worthy cappucino froth appear. This is my second Dedica machine. The last one looked almost exactly like this one and lasted 3 and a half years. The only two differences are the depth of the coffee pod; this new machine has a deep and proper 2 shot cup and the frothing wand is different. This wand sits very low to the base of the machine and doesn't angle up at all. I have to turn this machine sideways on my benchtop to froth the milk but that's easy enough. I preferred the wand being able to angle up to allow for the angle of the jug you need to froth the milk. This machine makes a delicious rich double shot mug of cappucino and the froth i got was excellent. The crema on the coffee is everything it should be. I've made 4 mugs of double shot cappucino's this morning for my partner and I. First one I was still learning and was just ok, the next 3 were perfect. Keep your steam wand at least 1/3 in to the milk until you hear the pitch drop and then slowly keep the wand just under the surface of the milk, which should be moving in a circular vortex around the jug which you should be holding on an angle. The milk will slowly start to increase in size by 2/3rds. Slow and steady wins the race. It works. This machine cost me $100 more than the machine I bought in 2020, but the coffee extraction is way better on this new macine. Very tasty. Perfect size for a 2 person house with a small kitchen. My only complaint is the length of the steam wand is too long to get a milk jug under unless you reangle the machine to work sideways on your benchtop. The wand only goes in and out, which does not allow for a lowering of the milk jug as the froth increases but this is easily fixed by angling the machine sideways on the bench to froth. Do this, and you'll be able to lower the jug slowly as the milk increases. The rich quality of the coffee extraction far makes up for this wand issue. Turn the machine sideways to make your coffee and make your froth and you'll have a coffee worthy of a much more expensive machine.
