You had to know how to eye just the right amount of espresso beans, grind them fresh, and tamp the grinds with the precise amount of pressure so that when you set a timer each and every shot of espresso came out perfect. Not too fast and watered down, not to long to turn the espresso bitter. Every step was done manually and had to be done just right. I miss those days. Coffee used to be an art form. Gone are the days where a customer can walk in and ask me to make them a triple ristretto topped with whole milk foam stiff enough to stand up on its own. Most people don't even know what a ristretto shot of espresso is anymore, it's sad. Which is why I bought my DeLonghi EC702 15 Bar Stainless Steel Espresso and Cappuccino Machine. I love the hands on old school method that allows me to be in control of every stage of making the perfect espresso shot. I never want an automatic espresso machine in my kitchen. I can make an espresso beverage tailored exactly how each of my guests and I prefer and I guarantee it will taste better than the $8.00 drink you picked up in the drive-thru. I have trusted the DeLonghi brand for nearly 20 years to deliver the perfect espresso beverage every time. The company I work for only uses DeLonghi machines to make their espresso drinks and it's the only brand I'll ever personally own as well. The craftsmanship of their products and the quality of beverages it allows me to create are unmatched by any other brand on the market. Their products are a bit more expensive than others, but worth every single penny. I have two DeLonghi coffee makers in my kitchen that I have used every day. And after 15+ years they both still work as well as the day I bought them. That's something I can't say for any other product in my kitchen. I will continue to buy DeLonghi as long as the company is still in business.

I have owned this model for years. I love that they have ESE pods, which makes for easy mess free cup of espresso. The frothing attachment does what I need, but you are not going to get coffee art from it. Now, after 3 years, I am needing to replace a couple of the rubber parts as it has started leaking under pressure. But still, for price and first espresso machine, I am very pleased with this on.

8yrs old and still going strong. I experimented with plenty of supermarket ground coffees, Lavazza Qualita Oro worked best for me. I'm currently buying freshly ground coffee from a local shop that offers plenty of variety. When you find the brand/variety that suits your taste the result is more than decent. This little machine makes lush crema and often beats the coffee I can get on the street. There are some design flaws (short height means you need to remove the tray to fit taller cups), but they don't affect coffee quality.

Good Low Cost Machine

I bought my second EC155 model low cost espresso machine a little over a year ago. I use it every day and love it’s design and the simplicity of use.My only real complaint is that when the machine is on and has reached temperature and pressure it tends to drip from the frothing nozzle. Many times I will set it up, turn it on, and walk away to go to get my kids up. By the time I return there is usually a puddle by the machine (the frothing wand will not stay over the tray). In fact that is the main reason I bought a replacement model, because my first one did that as well. I suppose I could have purchased a newer design and slightly upgraded feature set, but I really enjoy the versatile portafilter.I have done some digging and found that the most likely problem ... MoreI bought my second EC155 model low cost espresso machine a little over a year ago. Used rarely and broke
8 May 2023

The only reason this isn't a 1 star review is because of how long we have had this unit. It was purchased in 2017, though used very rarely. Got it out again recently, and it was totally non functional - one of the water lines inside must have broken, because it would not make espresso, but rather just a water puddle under the machine.I spent a morning contacting customer service and they offered me 20% off of a new model, after a long hold. The rep, Kenvion, was kind and patient and helpful. But the product, and the "fix" that Delonghi was able to offer, both failed to meet expectations.

For advanced home espresso brewers and beginners alike this machine is an absolute asset. Out of the box it’s easy to piece together what goes where because most of it is already where it belongs. The filter handle (where you put the coffee, I’m sure this thing has an official name but I’m just going to call it the filter handle) is actually inside the back of the machine where the water goes (the water reservoir is removeable!). Make sure you look here as initially I thought I had not recieved such a vital part of the machine. All in all, operating the machine is pretty simple. Choose a filter, one is for single, one is for double - there’s even a spot under the lid to store the filter you aren’t using, a feature I was impressed with. Choose a filter, one is for single, one is for double - there’s even a spot under the lid to store the filter you aren’t using, a feature I was impressed with. Less things to sit around on my counter in an effort to not lose them. Fill it with finely ground espresso beans, use the tamper that is attached to the machine to press it in firmly and dust of any excess. Return the filter handle to the machine and follow included instructions on how to heat, brew, steam and froth! Here are my highlighted pros and cons, listed simply:PROS- Storage for the extra filter.- An included coffee scoop.- Attached tamper (A++ on the inclusion of this as I used to try to do this with the back of a spoon and it just didn’t work as well)- Knobs for steamer and brewer are separate!- Included, incorporated, steamer/frother. While simple, very useful.CONS- I was unaware the machine just keeps going, this might have been user error but something to note you have to turn it off or you’ll have an espresso overflow!- There’s no dial that says you’re brewing one or two cups so if you’re brewing just one make sure you have the cup under both spouts because it comes out of both no matter what you’re making.- Itty bitty cups are a necessity. Yes, I know espresso cups are supposed to be small but sometimes you wanna brew something small in a bigger cup out of convinence. With this machine that’s not really possible. All in all, the pros definitely outweigh the cons as most of those are user preference. If you want a good espresso / cappuccino machine this is definitely worth considering. I’m certainly glad I have one.

So let me start out by saying that I have never had a cappuccino/espresso machine so I wasn't sure what to expect with this one. Some of the terms like tamper and crema were foreign to me but the instructions explained everything well enough so I could figure out the machine and use it like a pro.Firstly, if you've never had an espresso machine be sure to read the instructions and do exactly as they say. You have to set the machine up before you use it. Once it is setup then you can start making delicious espressos. The design and durability of the machine are pretty great. You have to set the machine up before you use it. Once it is setup then you can start making delicious espressos. The design and durability of the machine are pretty great. Once you figure it out it is super easy to use. The biggest design flaw I've encountered is the milk frother. It's a great milk frother/steamer but I don't like the spring that's in it. I wish I could move it off to the side and have it stay there instead of moving back to its original position. The tamper is pretty decent as well. It's not moveable so sometimes getting into the perfect position to tamp the espresso can be tricky. But even that isn't too bad most of the time. Finally, where you place the cup is very short. You definitely need the small espresso cups to use with this machine. The metal grate and the plastic piece holding the metal grate can be removed to give you a bit more room but it doesn't add much. I have a small cup that I make it in then I transfer it to a mug. It's only a minor inconvenience though. The machine comes with 2 different size baskets so you can make a single or double shot of espresso. I've solely used the double and boy does it give you that nice burst of caffeine. The espressos that I've made using this espresso machine have been nothing short of amazing. It takes about 5 minutes to make a cup, beginning with heating your water to frothing your milk. The instruction booklet also gives you different recipes so you can switch up your morning cup of joe. The recipe is broken down in steps so it's super easy to make. It can also use the espresso pods if you didn't want to deal with espresso grounds everywhere. I haven't used these but they are an option for someone who prefers that.Cleanup is also a breeze. Once you're finished, wipe the frother and the area where the water comes out. It's definitely easier to clean up the grounds while they are still wet as opposed to when they are dry. The handle the espresso basket sits in has a little clip so you can empty the basket after you're finished. It doesn't lock the basket in place so be sure to hold it or it may fall in the trash. Lol.Overall, once you get past the learning curve this machine is amazing. It's easy to learn and everything you need is written out in plain English so anyone can understand. I would recommend this to anyone looking for an espresso/cappuccino machine. You definitely won't be disappointed.

Matches my kitchen perfectly so I just leave it out on my counter all the time, unlike other small kitchen appliances. Now let's get down to the business of it. The water and steam pressures are controlled by seperate thermostats so everything comes out at the perfect temperature. The steam wand is my favorite feature, and makes frothy cappucinos in no time! I do want to note that it doesn't come with cups but a 2.5 cup is perfect size, I also use a 3", just tilt it to get it under the handle. A typical tea cup is the perfect size. I highly recommend getting a tamper, though, so much easier! I love this machine, seriously. I can't rave enough about it and would recommend to anyone and everyone. Easy to use, easy to clean and SO good!

I do not like small appliances to just sit out on the countertops so I enjoy the ability to put this away when we are done using it and it is out of sight until we need it again.ConsVery short, not compatible with the majority of a typical coffee cup. Being the first machine we have owned, we only have standard coffee cups and as such have a difficult time fitting the cup under the press. Drip tray can be removed allowing for a little extra space but the cup needs to be tilted in such a way to get it under the spout that it can and does spill a bit from time to time.Steamer wand is both convenient and inconvenient in its placement. It is attached to the upper left which is great and can be rotated out of the way but it IS in the way. The steamer works quite well in my opinion but does take a lot of practice, the first time I used it I allowed too much pressure out and milk splattered everywhere (hahaha). If you are new to this as I am practice with water maybe, to avoid some of the mess.

I already had espresso cups, but if you don't, you need to get some. Regular sized mugs will be too big to fit under the dispenser. Also, just be aware that this machine is a bit louder than regular coffee machines, just like at the coffeehouse. I love that the instruction manual is very easy to follow and makes using this machine much more simple than it seems. And after a few uses, you'll be making absolutely delicious, aromatic espresso drinks! I am hooked! This is definitely a great machine for anyone new to brewing espressos and cappuccinos at home!
