Heard decent things about this machine and didn't want to break the bank spending $600 on a machine. I didn't have high expectations for the price but wow, this thing is terrible. There is no pressure or time setting between one shot vs two shots, meaning theyre both pressurized the same and are not given a specific run time, so if you're not familiar with the proper volume for an espresso shot, it's just a guessing game. Even when a shot is pulled and timed properly, it is easily with not exaggeration the worst shot of espresso i've ever had. Extremely watery, pulls poorly and does not seem pressurize at all. I tried running it multiple times but it was weak, every. single. time. It foams the milk pretty well, but it cannot stay on long enough to heat the milk up to a high enough temperature, and begins to run cold. After multiple attempts, trying different methods, and reading the instructions three times, I was never able to fully heat the milk, leaving me with a room temperature latte. I would NOT recommend this machine. Delonghi themselves are not bad as a company, but this machine is a complete failure. Do NOT waste your money on this. Spend a little extra and get something that will actually produce a half decent shot of espresso.

Lovely, stylish and easy to use.

Having had the this machine for three weeks, it has definitely grown on me. I bought a cup to use with it because mugs are too tall to fit between the tray and the nozzles. But what it delivers in a single cup is more than enough caffeine for me personally. The other day I had an extra cup and was buzzing most of the morning. Its small cement mixer level of noise takes a bit of getting used to. But that only lasts for a pour time of about fifteen, twenty seconds, and frankly, if it's making that much noise it must be doing the work. The milk frother is noisy too but I expected that. It's straightforward to clean and the printed instructions are quite easy to follow. Doing the initial hot water cleanse beforehand is clearly beneficial and did get me used to operating ... MoreHaving had the this machine for three weeks, it has definitely grown on me. NOT stainless steel--aluminum which will oxidize

Much of the machine that appears to be stainless steel is actually aluminum and the aluminum will oxidize if you are unaware and not careful.I purchased this for my teen as her first machine. She asked for another brand, but I chose De'Longhi because I wanted quality even in a stsrter machine. It turns out the name means nothing. The portafilter is aluminum and heavily oxidized. My photo shows how it looks after I spent a lot of time removing the oxidation, but I cannot get it back to normal. I asked DeLonghi to send a new one but they refused. They gave me a link to a new portafilter which COST MORE than just buying a whole new machine. Really Enjoying
11 August 2024

I'm writing this review partly because after doing some research on espresso machines, the internet coffee aficionados had me convinced that, while this is the best budget machine, another $400 investment was needed in accessories to hack it out and get something worth drinking. Which, is probably true for them. But, if you are an everyday coffee drinker without the extra budget/counter space for fancy grinders, this machine as-is is great and a life enhancer (though kind of cool that you can hack it out if you want to nerd out and up your espresso game down the road). I've been enjoying the drinks I've been making with preground beans more than Starbucks and it's great to be able to customize them to our tastes/milk preferences. If you're someone who regularly buys espresso drinks, this machine would pay for itself in no time as I calculated each drink is costing less than $1 in ingredients. I did buy a few accessories, and have been glad to have a metal tamper, a portafilter funnel, and a milk frothing cup and thermometer (my drinks were a bit luke warm and the thermometer is helping me dial it in), but they aren't absolutely necessary to get something enjoyable.

Terrible Product, Please Read Before Purchasing
2 October 2024

I purchased the DeLonghi Stilosa today from Canadian Tire, and unfortunately, it’s already a disappointment – not just because it doesn’t work, but because of its overall terrible quality. Just go watch a video online of someone using it and you'll know what I mean. After carefully unpacking it, reading the instructions, and running the initial rinse cycles, I quickly discovered that no water was coming out at all – clearly, the machine was defective right out of the box. However, I’m not giving this product a 1/5 simply because it’s broken. Even if it had worked, the build quality is shockingly poor. When placed next to my sister’s Breville Café Roma, the difference in quality was obvious. However, I’m not giving this product a 1/5 simply because it’s broken. Even if it had worked, the build quality is shockingly poor. When placed next to my sister’s Breville Café Roma, the difference in quality was obvious. The Breville has a sleek stainless steel finish and feels far more durable. In contrast, the DeLonghi Stilosa feels cheap, with far too much plastic where metal components should be. The portafilter is awkwardly large and bulky, so much so that it doesn’t even fit under my automatic coffee grinder’s portafilter filler, making the design unnecessarily cumbersome. The only part that feels somewhat solid is the metal coupling where the portafilter connects, but beyond that, everything else feels flimsy. And then there’s the tamper. The included tamper is made from very low-quality plastic and honestly feels like a slap in the face. It’s so poorly made that they may as well not have included one at all. It’s practically unusable and feels like an afterthought, adding insult to injury given the price. To make matters worse, the Stilosa is much louder than the Breville, likely due to a faulty water pump, which only adds to the sense that this machine is cheaply made.I’ll be returning this product, not only because it’s broken but also because the overall quality is abysmal compared to other machines in a slightly higher price range. For an extra $100, you can get a well-built, metal appliance instead of this flimsy, noisy plastic machine. I regret this purchase. It actually upset my mood quite a bit.

You Get What You Pay For

Turned out that I enjoyed espresso more than I thought I might and after a couple weeks of daily use, the Stilosa was just not cutting it. It is not a bad product for $50 or $60 if all you want is an occasional shot. It has a small portafilter that is mostly plastic, you can get about 2 ounces of espresso at a time. IMO, the water heater and pump are both underpowered, however, the steam wand works surprisingly well. I went onto Facebook Marketplace and found a gently used Gaggia Classic Pro for $350 that included lots of expensive accessories. I am within the Stilosa return period, but it is not ethical to return a machine that I used and learned from. Instead, I put it back in the box and will give it to a relative. This machine is a valid entry level to your espresso journey. It isn't perfect, and I'll explain my gripes with it, but it's certainly a way to make good espresso provided you can dial it in.First the gripes:1. The machine feels cheap - it's almost all plastic where you touch it, the dials don't feel great, the portafilter fits poorly in the machine so you have to exert a lot of effort to get it to lock into place. In tandem, the machine is so light you have to hold it down while you do that, and it just feels bad to do.2. The machine pumps at WAY too high a pressure. This means you'll have to grind your coffee coarser than you'd probably like, and it will always have that high pressure taste. This means you'll have to grind your coffee coarser than you'd probably like, and it will always have that high pressure taste. Plus you'll need to get a puck screen so the water doesn't dig out a huge channel.3. The portafilter is... Not great. It's pressurized, which you can undo, but you'll want to get a new basket and even then the portafilter itself will retain so much coffee it's crazy. Plus it's 51mm as opposed to the more common 54 or 58mm that most espresso machines tend to be - so while gear is definitely available, it's not as abundant as other sizes. To add on, the pressurized filter baskets (which again, are easily changeable) have gaskets that fit them into everything snugly, and the 14g dosed basket already blew out on me. I already purchased an 18g 51mm basket, but this fit very poorly due to the design where the mouth of the portafilter is likely 52mm despite the internal being 51. Accessories are necessary, but just be aware of what you actually need. Now for the positives:1. It's a well featured machine - while nothing on it is excellent in my experience, it's not necessarily bad once you dial in and figure out your preferences. You WILL need to practice with it, and you WILL need to grind your own coffee for it, but it absolutely makes good espresso drinks once you get there. Little things like a removable water tank just make it a bit more pleasant.2. It's CHEAP. You might think that $120 for something that means you do a lot of work to make coffee might be a bit expensive, but in the world of espresso, that's nothing. Especially considering you could feasibly make cappuccinos and proper shots with it.3. The small footprint makes this perfect to just leave in my break room so I can have a nice cup of coffee when I need it - I don't have to take up a ton of space with a big expensive machine that I'd be worried about someone breaking.Overall I think the machine has great value as an entry level or extra machine. It takes some work but I've had great use out of it thus far - though I will be sure to update with the durability of the machine as that becomes apparent.

I’ve had this machine for over a month, and I’m really enjoying using it. You can definitely pull some nice shots with this machine. I use freshly roasted whole beans, a manual hand grinder, a bottomless portafilter, and a tamper that delivers 30 pounds of consistent pressure. If you use pre-ground espresso with the pressurized portafilter and plastic tamper that come with the machine, the shots are just not going to be good. But this machine can be really great by adding a few little upgrades. However, the steam wand with the cover is terrible. It doesn’t produce the microfoam needed for latte art, so if you’re specifically looking for that this machine is probably not for you. This DeLonghi Stilosa Espresso Machine is nice and compact, it's actually not much bigger than our regular coffee maker. I like that you can take out the water chamber to clean it. There's also a small storage area for one of the two brew size cups. There's is no storage for the other pieces, and these pieces do not include a cup to catch the espresso shots or a steaming pitcher. Even if you've used other machines or you're the type that doesn't read instructions, please do otherwise things might get weird. Three of us in the household have at various points in our lives both worked making espressos\coffees and have had home machines and still needed to stop and read the instructions. Why I marked this down a star is that the shots don't have a control button (or built in mechanics) for stopping the shot after one or two regardless of what size basket you have in. I didn't realize I had to stop it because other machines I've used just stop. So the first time I used it not remembering the instructions and not having them in front of me it kept going past two shots and it poured out a lot more than I expected, luckily I had a big enough cup it didn't spill. Also it said it had different size area for bigger cups, and honestly don't believe this and look at the size cups they are using in the pictures online. It has a metal tray that sits on another drip tray you can pull out for washing. When you take the metal off it does drop down a little bit more, but it has a lip and you'll have to do some tilting to get in and out with "bigger" cups. We couldn't fit a standard coffee mug. My husband went through the cupboards and tried a few different cups and jars and had settled on a small mason jar.The instructions do say don't steam more than 60 seconds at a time and it does seem to slow itself down and stop steaming at about that amount of time, though it's still making some noise. Also it's not a function that I'm going to use much, but supposedly the steamer can also extrude hot water for an Americano or tea, but it seems complicated and I have yet to master it. The instructions say you have to turn the knob on the front and lever on the side at the same time, but I guess I can't get the timing right because I get water coming out of the steamer and where the shots come from. I'll keep practicing. After the learning curve we are enjoying the machine and it doesn't take long to make a mocha or latte in the morning for myself. It's good for a budget home model.I received this espresso machine from Influenster and this is my honest and unbiased opinion.
